Oh lovely! In store sample today. Chocolate is the dominant note with a touch of rose & bergamot. I don’t need more tea, but I might pick up a small amount of this before it goes away.

Flavors: Bergamot, Chocolate, Rose

Maddy Barone

I’m so jealous that you live close to David’s!

Kristal

It seems like everyone on steepster is trying this one! I would have loved this a year ago when I was into sweeter tasting teas and could still drink black tea, but alas I cannot anymore :(..or at least only occasionally. I love bergamot :(

Sampled this in store today. It was pretty much all woody rooibos with a hint of caramel. Meh!

Flavors: Caramel, Wood

Roswell Strange

Nooo! No one loves my beautiful Creme Brulee tea… :(

Anlina

One of my other friends really loves it too. I’m open to giving it another chance, but the instore sample didn’t grab me.

Kristal

Yeah I remember trying this tea a long time ago and I found it didn’t taste sweet at all

VariaTEA

When I first tried this, I really did not like it but tbh, it has grown on me. I don’t know if that’s because of the tea itself or because of the power of suggestion from my wonderful tea twin, Roswell Strange.

So, not drinking this today but baking with it.

I saw this recipe for white chocolate matcha scones on Yunomi and it just sounded so good. My matcha is also getting close to its best before date, so I want to use it up soon. http://yunomi.us/24858/tea-recipe-matcha-scone-pancake-mix/

Since I don’t have pancake mix and I prefer baking from scratch anyway, I adapted this scone recipe: http://www.food.com/recipe/simple-sweet-scones-66409

I added about 2.5tbsp of matcha and half a bag of white chocolate chips. The whole thing was fast and easy to put together and very delicious. The scones are bright green and the matcha flavour is mild but distinct and present.

I will definitely be making these again – maybe soon, because I just ate seven of them in one sitting. Next time, I would add another tablespoon of matcha, just to make the flavour a bit more intense. I had to use more liquid than the recipe called for, probably a combination of the extra dry weight of the matcha, and the fact that it’s so incredibly dry here in winter that the moisture content of my flour is way too low and it always absorbs way more liquid than it would in other climates.

Tasty tasty!

Mmm, sounds amazing!

Nichole/CuppaGeek

Yum! Going to have to try that this weekend!

Lindsay

Sounds so good. :)

Ugh this is so good. What a perfect first cup of the day. I gulped it down fast while I was baking. Malt, sweet potato and fruit today. Then I resteeped the leaves, though my mouth is full of scones, so I can’t really tell how good the resteep is.

A lovely cup – roasted notes overlay minerals, cream, spinach and tangy vegetal flavours.

Sadly, I don’t think I can finish my cup. It’s gotten cold and one of my teeth has suddenly started hurting pretty badly. Cold is extremely unpleasant right now.

Sorry to hear abour your toothache – I’m in the same boat atm :(

Oh dear! Will clove oil help or is it too far gone for that?

I am impressed with both this tea and my travel mug.

I made this in my travel mug, yesterday, to take to a meeting. I put a teaspoon of the tea into my mug, topped it up with hot water, and let it steep. Well, I forgot it in my car during the meeting and then forgot it in my car when I finally got home a few hours later.

I finally retrieved my mug today, about 26 hours after I made this cup. In spite of the -14C weather today, the tea was only cold, not frozen or even starting to crystallize. And it was perfectly drinkable and delicious, without any bitterness or astringency. I’m pleased to discover that this makes a surprisingly nice iced tea.

So even though I repeatedly forgot about this, I still got to enjoy it.

205 °F / 96 °C 8 min or more 1 tsp 16 OZ / 473 ML

I’m pretty sure I have a straight Earl Grey in mu cupboard, but I couldn’t find it, so I grabbed this to make a latte, and it’s delicious.

2tsp steeped in 8oz of water for 4 minutes, added to maybe 4oz of hot milk, 1.5 tsp of sugar and 1tsp of matcha powder. The flavours of this come through really nicely and are complimented well by the matcha. Nice and decadent.

Flavors: Bergamot, Vanilla

DeliriumsFrogs

Oh, does that sound SO incredibly delicious!!!

Anlina

My bag of kitchen grade matcha is very close to its best before date, so I’m looking for stuff I can add it to, to use it up :) I think I’m going to make matcha & white chocolate scones soon. There was a recipe on Yunomi that I will adapt.

Fjellrev

EGC + matcha sounds lovely.

DeliriumsFrogs

Those scones sound wonderful!

I’m going to do them from scratch rather than with a pancake mix, but scones are super easy. I love the idea of matcha and white chocolate.

Leah Naomi

You inspired me to make matcha scones tomorrow. I’ve never made them before!!

I made this cup this morning because I was super tired and needed a caffeine kick.

The smell of it is really interesting – malt, raisins and an unexpected burst of citrus. Taste wise, this is mostly malt, with a pleasant amount of bitterness, and then a hint of citrus on the finish.

I finished most of this cup, and then decided to have a nap on the couch when I realized that I couldn’t focus my eyes.

The rest of this cup I drank cold, and it was also very nice.

Thank you to Lindsay for this sample!

I wish there were an easy way to actually measure caffeine content in teas, so I’d know what to drink when I need to wake up. :)

Anlina

Me too! Teabox actually has caffeine content (high, med, low) listed on their teas, and it’s not just by tea type (a surprising number of black teas are listed as being low caffeine), but it would be nice to have that kind of info for all companies and also know how they go about testing it, or if they just guess.

Anlina

Though I don’t think any amount of caffeine would have been enough this morning.

Lindsay

I know that feeling.

Nicole

This one is really super with some light cream, too. :)

Profile

Bio

I grew up drinking jasmine green tea with meals, but really fell in love with tea on a trip to Britain in elementary school. My first great love was Earl Grey, and I still adore it and all its variants.

I discovered the beauty of loose leaf tea much later, when, on impulse, I picked up a few teas that were on clearance at a home store. My introduction to loose leaf teas were Masala Chai and Provence Rooibos by the Metropolitan Tea Co and an unknown brand of kukicha and gyokuro (little did I know what a precious treasure I’d stumbled onto with that.)

At the time I was lucky to live in a place with multiple tea shops and several places to have afternoon tea, which is a delight I still miss.

Tea is part of my daily ritual and a nice, affordable way to appease the collector in me.

I enjoy distinctive whites, greens and oolongs, flavoured blacks, and herbals that are heavy on the citrus, lavender or mint.

Rating rubric, to give myself some consistency:
0-15 Yuck, not even drinkable.
16-30 Disappointing, not really inclined to give it a second try.
31-45 Disappointing, but maybe there’s potential? Worth one more try, prepped differently.
46-60 Mediocre, not terrible but not memorable.
61-75 Not bad. I’ll definitely finish what I have and might buy again.
76-90 Very enjoyable. Tasty, complex, it’ll keep me coming back.
91-100 BEST! I love everything about it and I will drink it forever.

Beyond tea, I’m a sex educator, polyamory activist, and radical queer. I love backwoods camping, abstract painting, baking & cooking, nail polish, cats, ceramic sculpture, and home nesting.
