1758 Tasting Notes

This tea was quite good. It had what I would call a muted sweetness from the start, no fermentation flavor to speak of, and very little bitterness. It had a flavor profile that I am not sure how to identify. My thoughts were dried fruits but not something real sweet like a pineapple. A dried fruit with more fiber than sugar I suppose might be a way to describe the main flavor note. As I am drinking the last couple of steeps now they have gotten a bit cold as I was concentrating on photographing my tea session. I have now upped my game by having a good table top background and a second flash on a light stand with a soft box linked to my on camera flash. At least for one of my cameras.

Iin any case I steeped this tea eleven times in a 120ml teapot with 9.6g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, 1 min, and 1.5 minutes.

This is a relatively nice tea from King Tea. There was a fair amount of fermentation flavor that lasted a bit longer than usual, into the sixth steep. It was bittersweet at the start. By the eighth steep it had lost it’s bitterness and became a nice sweet ripe. While this tea is not what I would call spectacular I think it good enough for the price I paid. A solid tea.

I steeped this eight times in a 150ml gaiwan with 12.7g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, and 30 seconds.

This was a nice tea overall. Gave it twelve steeps. There was some fermentation taste to it but it was not unpleasant or fishy. I wasn’t paying close attention to the specifics but I did like this tea. There was very little bitterness to this tea.

This is a very nice ripe tea with a moderate amount of fermentation flavor. It has cleared somewhat. The earthy taste was neither unpleasant or fishy but more of a sweet taste. I couldn’t sleep so I decided to male tea and really not sleep.I want to call the flavor at the end of this teas twelve steeps dates but not quite. It was enjoyable overall even if I was concentrating of photographing my tea rather than drinking it. Hopefully I will get some nice prints of the gaiwan I used tonight.

This was an excellent sheng with very little bitterness at all. It had a nice sweet note to it. I think the classic profile of apricots and stonefruits fits this one. I had heard this tea was somewhat bitter, maybe it was because I used a lower brewing temperature but I really didn’t get any bitterness or astringency. This was good stuff.

I steeped this eight times in a 120ml Yixing teapot with 8.4g leaf and 190 degree water. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, and 30 seconds.

I’ve heard that Dayi and other factories are making their teas more accessible so people could drink them while they’re young. Do you think this tea still has the strength to age as well as the 7542s of old?

This is a very nice ripe puerh that has partially cleared as far as the fermentation flavor goes. The fermentation taste was not strong. This is well on the way to becoming fermentation free as far as the taste goes. I wasn’t really paying attention to the specifics of this tea as I was preparing to photograph it as I was drinking it. I was thinking about the way everything looked rather than the taste. I drinnking the last of it now, steep thirteen and would say it developed a bit of a fruity note. Don’t know about chocolate notes as far as this one goes. I just know I really liked this tea. It is not very different from the 2008 version which I have on sale in the Stash sale. This is one good ripe.

I steeped this teta thirteen times in a 175ml teapot with 12.5g leaf and boiling water. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, 1 min, 1.5 min, 2 min, and 3 minutes.

This is a very tasty oolong. It is slightly roasted but very light. It does not overpower the taste of the tea. I am not sure what to call the sweet notes of this tea but it was good.

I steeped this eight times in a 120ml gaiwan with 7g leaf and 190 degree water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, and 30 seconds.

This is a relatively nice tea but didn’t seem as good as other 7572s that I have drank. Perhaps that was because this was batch 807, the seventh batch of the year or perhaps it was because I was concentrating more on photographing my tea than tasting it and it had got rather cold by the time I finished it. Still it was a good tea with a lot of flavor.

I steeped this nine times in a 225ml Yixing Teapot with 17g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, and 45 seconds.

This is a very nice ripe from Puerhshop. While it doesn’t qualify as spectacular it was quite tasty. I brewed this in a big teapot for an excuse to photograph the teapot both for Instagram and to make prints of. I am using a professional color printer to make enlargements of up to 13 × 19 in size and some of them are amazing. Of course I am shooting with a real camera and not a phone. Phones may have more megapixels today but they can never match the image processing engine of a good DSLR.

I wasn’t paying close attention to the notes on this one so I won’t speculate much. It did develop a bit of a fruity flavor in later steeps but I didn’t pick up oon any chocolate notes even though they could have been there. Overall it was quite good and I drank a lot of it. Nine steeps with a 250ml teapot is enough tea for me for the day.

I steeped this nine times in a 250ml teapot with boiling water and 16.8g leaf. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, and 45 sec.

This is a fairly nice aged ripe with a moderate amount of wet storage flavor and no discernible fermentation taste. The wet storage taste was strong through four steeps. It was present to some degree even in the twelfth steep. Overall I do not think this is a good as the 1996 CNNP ripe cake that Yunnan Sourcing alsao sells. That one is also less money. I am not entirely sure how to describe the semi sweet notes that evolved in this brick. So I won’t try.

I steeped this tea twelve times in a 150ml teapot with 13g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, 1 min, 1.5 min, and 2 minutes. Despite the wet storage taste I did enjoy this brick.

I am Allan. I live and work in Long Island, New York. I have been amassing a tea collection for nearly two years and have spent way too much money. I now try to buy mostly Puerh as I like it most and it lasts nearly forever. Black tea has a habit of going bad. If anyone is interested in tea swaps I am open to ideas and have quite a cupboard.
