From Chawangshop

Material for this cake came from Man Nan Lao Zhai in Hekai mountain. Man Nan Lao Zhai is home of Lahu minority. There are very few small trees in the tea gardens, most of the tea trees are really old, which have lived for several hundred years. We picked out the first plucked tea in late March before the rains came.

Silver and fat buds, dark leaves, strong aroma. The taste is rich, oily and full in mouth, bitter as Hekai is, aftertaste is fast and sweet. This tea come from the same tea garden which we sold as maocha in 2013 and 2015 cakes.

Hand-made processing, sun-dried, stored well until December 2016, stone compressed in traditional way.

Finally starting on my Chawangshop group buy sheng. This one was good. There was just a little bitterness but not much. I persisted for maybe six steeps. There was a fair amount of astringency to this on. It quickly developed a sweet note although I do not think I would use the word apricot, it wasn’t quite that sweet. This one was good and is one I would consider picking up the next time I order from Chawangshop.

I steeped this twelve times in a 150ml gaiwan with 7.4g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, 1 min, 1.5 min, and 2 minutes.

The nose is herbaceous, with hints of wood. Taste has some veggie, straw, and good mouth-feel. Very clean taste, and good clean finish. 2nd steep: Floral nose has hints of vegetation, apricot, and straw. The taste is more apricot, with a hint of bitterness. Finish is very tannic, but not bitter. This is definitely my favorite of the 2016 ChawangShop teas so far. Not a whole lot of cha qi. Later steeps show more of a tobacco/wood profile that is increasingly tannic, but still interesting, as the fruit and floral notes slowly fade away.

I just ordered a tong if this blind, after drinking all of my Hekai cake from 2015. It relieves my edema for some reason better than any of my other teas.
