drank Birthday Cake by DAVIDsTEA

This was the second tea I had tried from DAVIDs. A friend of mine made me up a little sampler pack of their teas after I’d tried Forever Nuts at her house about a month ago. I went through my sampler bag and chose this one to try first as I have quite a sweet tooth and generally gravitate toward anything with frosting and/or sprinkles.

I adore the smell of this tea. It smells just like pound cake and vanilla frosting. To be truthful, I didn’t think this tea would taste good. I really expected it to have a very artificial flavor. WRONG! I was shocked by this tea’s taste…I had never experienced a tea that tasted like this before or that was so true to its name. All in all, I think this is my favorite tea.

drank Chocolate Orange by DAVIDsTEA
32 tasting notes

Like so many others I’ve reviewed thus far, this was one of the teas I’d received in the Sweet Indulgence pack from DAVIDs. This tea was one of the reasons I purchased this pack in the first place; chocolate and oranges were simply made to go together.

Once I steeped my first cup, I was a little thrown off by the smell. I actually can’t recall whether or not I could detect any signs of chocolate or orange, but I did notice a strange, unappealing smell that was really somewhat fishy. I didn’t know if this smell was something I could look past to give the tea a serious taste. Fortunately, my sense of taste overpowered my sense of smell and I was able to enjoy the chocolate and orange flavors. I found the orange flavor to linger after each sip, just as it seems to do when you eat orange flavored chocolates.

This tea made me want to seek out more teas with strong orange flavors. There will definitely be an orange tea or two in my next order.

This was another tea sample that I received in DAVIDs Sweet Indulgence sampler pack and despite the fact that I love strawberries and rhubarb, I wasn’t initially excited to try this tea due to the word “parfait” in its name. I’m glad I gave it a shot shortly after I opened the package.

The smell immediately drew me in to this tea. It was very sweet and reminded me of being in a bakery. I found it to taste sweet (the strawberries) and slightly tart (the rhubarb). Luckily, the sweetness was more powerful, but you could taste the tartness just enough to give that sweetness some kick. I found this tea to taste similar to a strawberry and cream candy.

I’ll have to give this one another shot tomorrow. I know I really enjoyed it, but can’t recall if it was one I loved enough to place on my shopping list.

drank Brazillionaire by DAVIDsTEA
32 tasting notes

I received a sample of Brazillionaire with my last DAVIDs TEA online order. I wasn’t super thrilled to try it in the first place as I’m not a lover of nuts (that’s what she said), so I wasn’t surprised when I thought it was just okay.

I will say that I really enjoyed its nutty scent, but the taste was a little too nutty for my liking. I also really enjoyed the sweetness it had and the fact that there was no strong black tea flavor to it.

For me, the nuttiness was really my only complaint, but since this tea is so very nutty, it won’t be one I’ll be purchasing in the future.

drank Sugar and Spice by DAVIDsTEA

I received a sample of Sugar and Spice with a DAVIDs TEA online order I purchased a few weeks ago. It was the first tea from their Fall Collection I had tried.

I found this tea to be similar to a chai, with a lesser scent. You can definitely tell this is a black tea, as I found it had that strong flavor at the end of every sip. I also found the cinnamon and clove flavors to be very apparent, which I enjoyed, and found it to smell like spice cake (as DAVIDs claims). I would have liked this tea to have a stronger smell and taste.

I don’t know if I enjoyed it enough to purchase it, as I tried this tea a few days ago and can only vaguely recall the smell and taste (I log my teas after I drink them and post my reviews when I get the chance), but I would definitely give it a second chance if I got the opportunity.

drank Lime Gelato by DAVIDsTEA

I received a sample of this tea in DAVIDs Sweet Indulgence sampler pack. Although I’ve only brewed one cup so far (I normally steep at least two before posting my feelings toward a tea), I don’t think I’m in love. I found this tea to be very weak both in smell and in taste; however, I believe this is the first flavored green tea I’ve tried, so perhaps that’s what I should have been expecting? I can’t say this tea wasn’t GOOD, but I’m just one for something with a bit more flavor and a little less hot water.

I find this tea has only a slight hint of lime and I feel that I would have liked it a lot more if that lime taste were more powerful. Luckily, I picked up some of the lime-flavored agave sticks while I was at a DAVIDs store this past weekend while on vacation. Hopefully the agave will improve my rating of this tea.

drank Glitter & Gold by DAVIDsTEA
32 tasting notes

I received this tea in DAVIDs Sweet Indulgence sampler pack. I was drawn to the gold sugar balls and was delighted to find little gold flecks in my dark steeped tea! I found this tea to taste similar to the Fall Collection’s Sugar & Spice, just with not such strong flavors, although these two teas don’t seem to contain the same ingredients (maybe I’ll have to try the two consecutively and reassess my comparison). The main difference I did notice was that Glitter & Gold has a hint of orange, which is a flavor I’m starting to really love in my teas. This, to me, would be a nice after dinner tea.

I don’t think I love this tea, but it’s definitely a decent blend. I’ll have to give it a few more tries to decide whether or not it will be a staple in my tea cupboard.

drank Read My Lips by DAVIDsTEA
32 tasting notes

I received this tea in DAVIDs Sweet Indulgence sampler pack. I was excited to try it on account of its look – mini chocolate chips and red lip-shaped sprinkles. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. I can’t say this tea was terrible, but for me, it was just okay. I could taste hints of chocolate and peppermint – it reminded me of a lesser quality peppermint tea I had tried in the past. The peppermint flavor lingers after you take a sip, but overall, I found this tea to have somewhat of a forgettable flavor.

drank Pink Lemonade by DAVIDsTEA
32 tasting notes

This is one of DAVIDs that I’ve been dying to try since I started sampling their teas a few weeks ago. I LOVE pink lemonade and was sure I would love a tea with this flavor. This tea was their Tea of the Month for June 2013.

I usually take my time smelling my teas before I taste them to see if I can pick out any individual flavors, and this tea had an overwhelming smell of Neocitran (the hot liquid medicine). Luckily, I love Neocitran and this tea both smells AND tastes like it, minus the overpowering medicine taste you get with the real stuff. The taste is mostly that of lemon with something sweet and something tangy.

This is one I will definitely try iced.

drank Redberry Tonic by DAVIDsTEA
32 tasting notes

At the suggestion of a DAVIDs employee at their Moncton, New Brunswick location, I purchased a cup of their Redberry Tonic in store…and I tried it ICED! Excellent suggestion! I told her that I would prefer something fruity with little or no caffeine and she advised me that this particular tea had a taste similar to red Kool-Aid. If I hadn’t already placed and paid for my order, I would definitely have added some Redberry Tonic. Adding it to my shopping list for my next order.
