So this came in the mail for me today. Let me say that I was a little bit excited about it that’s for sure. So out of the package the tea is dark like black gunpowder teas that I have seen. The aroma of the leaves is light and pleasant like a good Hojicha. The aroma in the first cup is quite intriguing. I picked up a pipe tobacco like aroma, some vanilla, and yes even a hint of weed. How it has all that I don’t know but my nose has been stuck in the cup just taking it in. The flavor is very similar to the coffee tea that Dr. Tea carries, but a little more robust. Maybe a bit reminiscent of roasted chicory. Very tasty! It leaves an interesting feeling behind in you mouth. Almost a little numbness. The second infusion brought on a darker brew. Let face it when you roast the Iron Goddess of Mercy you have to let her warm up and unfurl her beauty. The second cup is very close to a cup of coffee. This would be a coffee kicker for me. The aspect that I find amazing about this tea is that I just finished my 4th infusion, the aroma and flavor have not diminished. I may have to change my roos after trying this one. Wow!

I’m going to have to get some of this. I’m really liking their teas.

Started the day off with this after making waffles for my bride to be. I’m thinking I’m going to have buy more of this when my sample runs out. I noticed that it was quite a bit more malty than normal. Very good!

I liked this tea enough to snag another tin. Drinking it again I can definitely pick out the Pu-Erh. I’m starting to pick up the flavors of the Ancient Tea Tree as well. I think my palate is getting to the point where I can pick out the different regions much like some coffee drinkers, and wine drinkers do to my understanding….nerdy excitement there. I can taste the Yunnan black notes from the tea tree. Mixed with the Pu-Erh this is quite a good tea. It has the strength of a black tea but it’s not too bitter. Upping this one a bit.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-9T9tR0Rzg One of my favorite Scrooge clips :)

Got a sample of this from batrachoid. It’s sad that I have been getting to try some good Specialteas offerings now that they are no longer. It reminds me a lot of the Yunnan black tea I get from the Asian Grocery. I like it and I can now pick this teas flavor out in a lot to the Breakfast teas that I drink. Decent though.

Wanted to try something different as far as herbals go. This is my first honeybush tea. I like it. Reminds me a lot of “friendship” tea or russian tea as previously mentioned by fcmonroe. It’s very much like an adult version of tang. Throw a little milk in there and you have yourself a creamsicle. Yum!

So I’m trying this one again in the studio using a method I have dubbed as Joboo’s Studio gongfu: using 2 cups, a strainer and a butter knife. On a side note now I’m going to have to break down and purchase a gaiwan. So as I have previously mentioned I’ve been formally put off by the aroma of “rose” teas…..however I think I have changed my thoughts on this.
30 second rinse.
First infusion: 1minute. Whoa! Hello Rose. And yes I think Rue Mcclanahan talking to Betty White in the Golden Girls. The rose over-shadows the earthiness of the Pu-Erh almost mellowing it. More orangish hue. Not very dark but very good.
Second infusion: 1 minute. A lot darker. Cup of coffee dark. There is more earthiness. The rose is a little astringent, and it reminds me of the autumn leaves. Fall is definitely my favorite season. Very smooth though.
Third infusion: 1 minute. More of an amber color. I wouldn’t describe it as earthy of rosey, but still very smooth. I am really enjoying this. You might even describe it as giddy.
Fourth Infusuion: 1 minute………I think the rose garden is dead and it’s time to plant tulips. I’m upping my rating on this one. I had just a wonderfull experience with this tea….and I have to clean up my mess in the air studio. :)

Thanks to Schoolbus39 for sending this sample. This is my first tea from Adagio and my first golden Pu-Erh that wasn’t in a blend. I am very much a fan of the darker Pu-Erhs. Out of the can a nice bright brownish/orange color. 1st steep 3 minutes. Drinking this while doing the dishes I thought…nice earthy but not quite as smooth as say an Imperial Pu-Erh. It’s not as full bodied either.
Second infusion a little bit darker, and smoother. I think my favorite aspect of this Pu-Erh is that it 4 steeps until it took on the mushroomy flavor on the 5th steep. In my opinion once you hit that mark your Pu-erh is done. I like this tea a lot….however I don’t see in shelling out fifty bucks for 3.2oz as it says on the website, and I would rather pay half that for my favorite Imperial Pu-Erh for the same amount of tea. For being my first Adagio selection A+

Oof, thats expensive for shu puer! Rishi sells a pretty good one for cheap, their “Classic Blend”, I believe. It seems to me like you’ve yet to try an aged sheng puer. The flavors and characteristics of naturally aged raw puer are emulated in the processes that shu puer goes through. Here’s some info on puer that you may or may not know: http://www.chinaflairtea.com/guide_puer.html

Whoa. Way to dive into Adagio lol. Impressive. While I agree that the masters collection is over priced, this is the only one that doesn’t have a cheaper alternative in their offering. I don’t like unflavored shu and even I like this one (although I could do w/ out the peppery notes, not a fan of anything from the Yunnan region). If you like this, keep buying the sample sizes. Unfortunately I think the samples have shrunk and it’s no longer 30g, but even if it’s 1oz, the sample is $9/oz vs $14/oz for the larger container.
