10 Tasting Notes

This is a really great white tea – when made properly. Unfortunately, I have a lot of trouble steeping it properly.
Most of the time my cup turns out a little bitter, probably because my water was too hot.

When I get it right, though, it has lovely subtle flavours. I’m always amazed how naturally sweet it is and the smooth and silky finish is highly enjoyable.

Blueberry isn’t really my thing, this is another tea I picked up mostly for my room mate. It was also another of my first loose leafs which was mostly used up with experiments and mistakes.
Perhaps it’s the tartness of the currant and grape that turns me off, but there’s something not quite sweet or complex enough about this tea on it’s own for me.
We were drinking big batches of this iced during the summer, but when it finally started to cool down, I brewed the last few cups I had of it hot. It reminded us of hot blueberry pie filling and I’d love to try and find a tea with a pie crust flavour to blend it with to get the full experience.
All in all, it is an okay tea. I would accept it if it was offered for me, but it’s not something I would order for myself.

This is definitely one of those that’s better to blend with other things. I had some by itself today and didn’t really like it. :/ But I am obsessed with it iced blended with basically any other tea!

I drink this tea with almost every meal.
Green tea with food is already a habit for me, but it’s far more enjoyable with that delicate jasmine fragrance.
I highly recommend this for anyone who loves tea for the sense of culture and health it brings.

When the gent at Teavana opened the tin of this and wafted it at me, I instantly fell in love.
This was the first loose leaf tea I ever tried to make on my own, though, and most of the 50 grams I bought were wasted on experimenting and steeping mistakes.
When I finally thought I had gotten it right, it still tasted a lot more tart than I expected it to. I was steeping it with a 1:1 tea to rock sugar ratio but the vanilla in the blend was still much more muted than I expected. Perhaps in the future I will try blending it with a sweeter tea.
Most often we drank this one iced, except for the few times we were too anxious to wait. On one occasion, my room mate suggested it might be good hot with milk, but upon trying that, the milk curdled in the tea…either because of the temperature difference or because of the acidity of the strawberry.
I would still like to try it as a latte if I can find a Teavana in the area with the apparatus, as not all locations have them. The creaminess of the vanilla begs to be emphasized.

I picked this up from Teavana on recommendation when I asked for something to help me sleep.
In the past, I’ve drank straight chamomile teas which have knocked me out like a light, but this blend only eases head aches at best. I’ve tried making it stronger by using less water and more loose leaf but I’m just not getting the desired effect. I am, however, I’m trying to fight a cold at the moment and it is doing wonders for my throat, so it’s not entirely bad.

I’m actually writing this review for my room mate, this flavour is too weird for me.
He loves the combo of the citrus and mint from it’s cocktail inspiration and was devastated when I told him it was going to be discontinued.
He has a big bag of it to get through (because I won’t touch it), but considering I’ve watched him down 32 oz (iced and sweetened) in one sitting, it shouldn’t be a problem.

A morning favourite for me, hot or cold.
I have never liked coffee, but there are some mornings when I need something to help start the engine, in which case I don’t hesitate to reach for a cup of Raspberry Riot Lemon Mate.
I can really chug it back when it’s cold…it’s like a great tasting no consequence energy drink.
The tartness of the raspberry-lemon combo is more apparent when drank hot, though, a flavour my room mate tells me is rare and delicious.
Another great thing about it is how well it blends with other fruity/berry-y teas.
My favourite combo right now is this with the Raspberry Pineapple Luau White Tea.

We love this one iced at my house. I make a nice big batch most mornings in the 32 oz PerfecTea maker, along with a 1:1 ratio of the rock sugar, and drain it into a big pitcher to let cool in the fridge over the course of the day.
The cherry flavour is very strong, and sweeter and brighter than the Snow Geisha. It reminds me of cherry kool-aid but with all the benefits of a green tea and without all the artificial flavour crystals.

Not actually a big fan of this blend, but I’m also not a big fan of spice either. The Maharaja Chai is well known to be one of the spiciest chais in the Teavana loose leaf line, so it lives up to it’s expectations even if it’s not my cup of tea.
Upon request, I brought some of the blend up to my room mate’s Thanksgiving dinner where it was a big hit when served with pumpkin pie.

An absolutely amazing way to end a cold day. I always use 2 teaspoons of the teavana rock sugar in my steep because it really helps bring out that rich cocoa flavour. In combination with the strong yet not-over powering peppermint (which you can taste through the resteeps a single teaspoon is good for), this tea always calms me down and takes me back to a simpler time before bed.

Only found a love for loose leaf about a year ago, but I’m hooked for life now. I love knowing the health benefits of certain ingredients and trying to pick appropriate flavours for any occasion.
Serving and recommending teas to the people I’m close to is my way of showing them I care and that they are welcome in home/family/life :)

Currently I am working at Teavana and going through the “100 days of tea” challenge, so expect lots of tasting notes!
