I was a little underwhelmed by this one. The caramel is there, but it is very light and is most prevalent in the aftertaste.

I think it’s because it’s a rooibos base. It would probably be stronger if the base were a black tea, like an Assam.

Notes of vanilla, sugar, cinnamon, and the whisper of ginger also present.

Holy moly it’s been as while since I’ve really posted on here very much. I’ve just been so busy, but I’ve missed this community and definitely want to make time to come back and review the teas that I’m drinking anyway.

The tea: I’ve had this stuff forever. There’s nothing wrong with it, but I always skip over drinking it, I think because I always get to it when I’m looking for caffeine. Well I needed something warm more than I needed caffeine today so I went for this. I added in a splash of this half almond milk/half coconut milk stuff I just got. While the milk is awesome, this tea was just kinda eh to me. There was a weird fake taste that I couldn’t quite place. There is a chance these are just old, because I feel like I remember liking this more in the past so take this as you will.

I like this tea when prepared with a splash of almond milk. It’s a good sweet summer red tea, even though the flavor palate seems more autumnal. The only reason I don’t up the rating is because the licorice flavor is overpowering, and for those like me who despise licorice tea, this is a drawback. However, it’s still worth keeping in stock and will be a big hit among the licorice-tea lovers especially. When toned down with a bit of almond milk, it makes for a nice dessert tea.

I am not a lover of chai teas but this one smelled really great. Plus, it was a convenient tea bag so I decided to give it a taste.

I am getting a very thin caramel flavor mixed with hints of cinnamon and clove. Overall, it just seems very weak to me so I am guessing this was underleafed. Perhaps I will try this with two teabags next time to see if that is better because the cup has potential to be pretty decent.

ETA: Tried brewing this up with two teabags and it is still pretty weak when it comes to the caramel flavor. The spices come out a bit more though which actually overwhelms what little caramel there is.

Decided to try this one next, since I’d already tried the chocolate chai and it wasn’t bad. With that in mind I had high hopes for the caramel chai. I brewed it up and added a spoonful of sugar.

The smell of the brewed tea was off-putting. It smelled more like potpourri than anything. While potpourri’s nice, I’ve no real desire to drink it. I let it cool a bit and tentatively took a sip. To my dismay, it was nowhere near as pleasant as the chocolate chai had been; between the cloying sweetness, the faint undertaste of rooibos, and the strong potpourri scent, I began to feel a bit nauseous and dumped the rest down the drain.

Maybe it would be somewhat more tolerable with milk added, but I really don’t feel like wasting any on a second attempt.

This is a nice chai with a mild caramel flavor. I also like that it is a rooibus, so I can drink it late in the afternoon or evening. I did add sugar and coconut milk to make it more traditional. I like the smooth taste, very nice to relax with a big cup.

Had a cup of this last night: 2 teabags for a 12 oz. cup. A pretty good brew, especially because it’s rooibos. Yes, I can taste the rooibos, however it’s faint and way in the background. This is mostly caramel with only a hint of chai spices. I wish the chai was more present, but otherwise I’ll have zero issue drinking this down – especially since it’s so rich and has zero added sweeteners.

Great dry smell. Really has a caramel smell but doesn’t have much caramel taste. I added a bit of honey after tasting it straight and found the caramel flavor comes out a bit more. I also added some almond milk to it (I don’t like regular milk anymore because it gives me a stomach ache). The ‘spiciness’ of this chai is very much on the mellow side but I think they do a good job of combining the Rooibos with the other chai flavors. Most of the time Rooibos over-powers other flavors but this one is a good balance.

BTW if your ever in New Zealand find yourself a chai stand. Handmade chai is amazing!

No! Not nearly spicy enough for a chai. It’s quite sweet, and a little better when it cools off, but not enough for my tastes. I prefer the company’s Fireside Chai, which is also a rooibos, and so much more flavorful. I won’t buy this one again.
