Yep, this one’s still a great chai for drinking straight! The aroma is of a perfectly blended spiced chai, with a definite cardamom aroma being the most present, yet not overwhelming. In spite of the flavour being fairly light (although again, cardamom is the dominant flavour), this tea tastes full and rich, and deliciously creamy from the coconut, so unlike underspiced, watery chais, this one is very satisfying. Makes for a delicious evening cuppa. Thanks again Indigobloom! One of my fave chais for sure :D

ETA: Wow, I’m on the fourth infusion, and it’s more lightly spiced but still coconutilly creamy! Delicious! And wow, the fifth infusion is still creamy and coconutty! Crazy. This tea has some insane longevity.

WOW – that is some longevity on that tea.

Kittenna

Yeah! I really like it! I’m glad I still have enough left for a few cups, because otherwise I’d be desperate to find some.

I haven’t had this one in an age! I pulled it out because I’m studying for my final (which is in 2 hours eeeeee) and I needed something warm, comforting, caffeinated and completely unfussy to prepare. This fit the total shebang but was also supremely delicious. Rich as can be – you might think it was prepared stovetop with way more than the splash of milk I used. I love the spice level and the coconut is sweet and a perfect touch to make it a little different. I’m very glad I took a break to prepare this :)

Wooo! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you. Break a leg.

Will be praying for total recall :)

Sandy and I discovered that Southern Season carries Zhena’s teas and bought just because of your reviews! :)

After reading Jacqueline’s note about how delicious this was with milk and sugar, I decided I just had to have it that way today. The cream really smoothes out the taste and brings out the sweetness of the coconut and the spices are more refined in taste. Think I may need another cup, as this was gone before the note was finished!

JacquelineM

It really does become gone before you know it!! Thank you once again for turning me on to this :)

No problem, I’m glad you like it!

5 minutes of steeping = WOW COCONUT! This is so good. So coconutty, and the chai itself is really lovely.

I’m having it with a big teaspoon of honey, and milk. I totally recommend this one.

this sounds interesting……

OMGsrsly

It is! Available at iherb.com (They ship to canada flat rate under 4lbs, so not too shabby.), or London Drugs. Or I can send you stuff in a bubble envelope if you want to rummage through my messy cupboard. :) I’ve found that as long as they teas aren’t super delicate, bubble envelopes are actually reasonable.

JustJames

would you include a ‘strike’ sign? =0)

swapping could be fun.

OMGsrsly

LOL. Maybe…

caile

This does sound good! Coconut – yum!

OMG!!! WOW!!! I don’t care that this is tea bags, I don’t care that it doesn’t count in my chai quest (re the coconut) – This is one of the best chais I’ve come across. This totally works. Lots of coconut – almost to the point that I think it’s more of a spicy coconut rather than chai – nice delicate spices. Add a little sweetener, add just a touch of milk and you are left with a delightful cup of sweet, creamy, coconut, spicy goodness.
This goes right on the shopping list. (Where do I buy it?)
Thank you OMGsrsly for introducing me to this amazing tea!!!!

TeaLady441

Hahaha that’s awesome. Also, who cares if it’s bagged, right?
(It’s just surprising!)

Dexter

LOL I’m not a tea snob, I don’t care how it come – this is FANTASTIC. But yes a little surprised. :))

Courtney

I tried so to find where to buy it too, but it either didn’t ship to Canada or shipping was outrageous.

OMGsrsly

Isn’t it good? It’s available at London Drugs, and goes on sale quite often.

yyz

http://www.iherb.com/search?kw=tea&x=-801&y=-141#bid=ZHE&p=1

you can get it here. It’s a us site but the shipping is cheap to Canada

Courtney

Yay! I was just checking the Zhena’s site and the US Amazon. Thank goodness for Steepster :)

yyz

They have other things too like some Harney’s teas including loose leaf Paris..

ashmanra

I think here in NC it is available at World Market, Southern Season, and possibly the Fresh Market. I don’t know how widespread those chains are, though.

Dexter

Thanks yyz – will check that out if I can’t find it at my local London Drugs.
(I’m seeking tea at London Drugs?…who would have guessed).

MissB

I think I sent you a few bags of their Chocolate Chai. Did I? I found it at Winners. Comes in a cute tin and was super cheap. Next time I go, I’ll see if there’s any coconut chai left.

Dexter

LOL no you didn’t MissB – but that’s ok. I was just looking at the iherb website yyz mentioned and saw the chocolate chai rooibos, peach ginger, Tropical Green Berry Bellini. I might have to place an order from here. I didn’t realize they had all these fun flavors.

Dexter

I don’t think I’m allowed to go back to Winners yet – little afraid they might still have/or more of the French teas.

yyz

Apparently you can buy from London Drugs online but unless our dollar takes a complete nosedive it’s still cheaper to buy from the US site because shipping is 9.95.

akgrowngirl

This is one of my favorite coconut chai teas, it is amazing, bagged or not

TeaLady441

I’ve been waiting to walk by the Holiday teas from Celestial Seasonings as well! They’re not at Walmart, so I’ll just keep my eyes open. For a bagged tea, they work out well for an evening treat.

OMGsrsly

London Drugs pretty much only has the Chais. I like the iherb site, though. :) Thanks for the temptation, yyz! Cavo, Superstore had some of the Celestial Seasonings ones. They all have gluten, or I would have picked one up.

yyz

Cavo, they carry most of the Celestial Seasonings holiday teas at Bulk Barn. They have had them at the one near me since before labour day.

TeaLady441

Cool! Thanks guys. :)

OMGsrsly

iHerb has this cute wee glass steeper cup for $3, and I’m so tempted to place an order. Retail therapy, etc. I don’t need it really, do I, tea friends?

Dexter

Don’t you just love when a comment on a tasting note turns into a learning experience for several of us. You guys are just a wealth of information and awful enablers.. :))

Dexter

OMGsrsly Wait to see if they have sales this weekend…..
(if you are ordering tea anyway…what’s a 3.00 steeper…)

Dexter

It’s very cute, and 3.00 is an awesome price!!!

MissB

Sigh. If it wasn’t 9:56pm on a Sunday, I’d be walking over to the London Drugs up the street from my place right now.

OMGsrsly

If I didn’t have to finish laundry and get to sleep, I’d offer to meet you somewhere and do a quick, clandestine tea trade off. :D

Dexter

We’re awful, I’m thinking about what day this week I can get to the mall to check out London Drugs – LOL mine isn’t “just up the street”.

MissB

Heh. This is getting dangerous, OMGsrsly and Dexter.. woo boy. Love it!

keychange

Adding this to my shopping list too now! aaahhh!

Started my AM off with this cuppa. I really enjoy this one iced as well (although today the cuppa was hot). The coconut flavor is strong, but not overpowering; there’s just enough tropical spirit to get you in the mood for a vacation!

Oh yeah, forgot I sipped this down the other day too! I chucked the last two bags into my measuring cup and forgot about it, so it was so burnt. Dumped it after forcing down the first 1/4 cup.

Oh well. Kind of like David’s Coco Chai Rooibos but with a different base. The novelty wore off fast, methinks.

I finally gave in and picked this up a few days ago because it was on sale at Kroger. (This had been on my Shopping List for at least 2 years.) I also want to note that my tin is black, unlike the one in the picture here.

By now I’ve had it both hot and iced, which is what I’m sipping on now. As far as chais go from my experience, this is a sort of mild one. The spices aren’t particularly strong, but that’s not to say it isn’t flavorful. It is, it just doesn’t burn my mouth like the chai at Java Monkey here in Decatur. (I love the burn…) Since the spices are so mild, I tend to drink this one without milk. When I brewed it for the first time, I put a few teaspoon’s worth in, which was also nice, but I was looking for a bolder experience.

The nutmeg and cinnamon are what I taste first, followed by delicious ginger and cardamom. I can’t say the coconut stands out very much, but it’s there. It adds a sweet sort of vanilla-like note, which I am loving right now. Sadly, though, this tea makes me miss Adagio’s Thai Chai. While I’ll be happy to finish this tin, I think I’m going to keep searching for my perfect chai…

How does this compare with Adagio Thai Chai? Have you had that one?

Tabby

Yeah, I really like their Thai Chai. This doesn’t have any lemongrass in it, so it tastes a little less, um, Asian for lack of better words. I remember Thai Chai having a bit of a stronger coconut flavor as well, which is another reason why I like it better.

Both OMGsrsly and Courtney sent me samples of this tea. As far as chai goes, it is not that bad. I don’t particularly taste the coconut but I think it appears in the cup by mellowing out the spices. However, more and more I realize I am not a huge chai fan so this blend is not particularly for me. Nonetheless, it is a nice cup of tea and it goes nicely with a splash of milk (as so many chais do). This particular cup came from my swap with OMGsrsly but thank you both for giving me a chance to try something new :)

I am feeling indulgent tonight, so I had a big mug of this while eating cherry cheesecake bread pudding. Take that, heat wave! This is from my swap with Will Work For Tea and the reason we swapped in the first place: she had a bunch to unload, and I love peppery chais so it was a match made in heaven!

I’ve had a few coconut chais before, but this one is quite different. First off, it doesn’t have any other “Asian” flavor components (lemongrass, galangal, etc) but a more classic Indian spice base. The spices are strong, as you can tell just by looking at the tea: whole cloves, big chunks of pepper and other spices. Yum! It brews up quite bold and peppery, with lots of different spice “layers.” There’s warmth from the cinnamon and ginger, heat from the pepper, a spicy quality from the nutmeg, and that distinctive tongue-tingling flavor that comes from cloves and cardamom. The coconut here is mostly flavoring (no actual coconut pieces) and it’s an odd result: it kind of tastes like it was steeped in coconut water! It’s not overpoweringly coconutty or tropical, more homey and comforting like coconut cream pie. A nice departure from my usual chais, but bold enough that this could be a regular in my cupboard!

Lucy

Cherry cheesecake bread pudding sounds devine!

Alphakitty

It was sooo good, even if it was kind of a bootleg dish. I didn’t have any of the ingredients for bread pudding so I soaked the bread cubes in rice pudding (instead of milk), added fresh cherries (instead of raisins) and used some jello instant cheesecake pudding mix instead of custard. Definitely worked out well though! In fact… it was a lot tastier than regular bread pudding.

Scott B

You really should try Yogic Chai’s Coconut Masala when you get a chance-they have real coconut in it.

Alphakitty

I know! Everyone says they have the best chais. I have a big order planned there, but the issue is that it’s… well, big! I am saving up for it as well as weeding through my teas to “thin the herd” a bit but I keep getting tempted by sales and 52teas blends which means less money as well as less space. Damn my inability to resist tea!

Scott B

Looks like they have free shipping @ $50 now, so maybe you could break your epic order into smaller orders? They used to have a $1 shipping on one tea promo, but they don’t appear to do that anymore.

Orders under $50 are calculated by weight and destination-so I bet shipping for a small order would be fairly cheap for you.

Alphakitty

Their shipping is really reasonable, I just need to clear out some of my samples before I can buy any more tea! I physically ran out of room, I think I’m going to have to expand to another cupboard…

Scott B

I hear you. My overflow storage now has more tea than my main storage area.
