Green tea contains very low levels of caffeine, less than a quarter the amount of caffeine per cup than in a similar-sized cup of coffee. More about caffeine.

STEEPING INSTRUCTIONS

ok so after class i decided to finally go to the tea shop and buy myself some Matcha since i was so curious and never had it. the second i got back to my apartment i made a matcha tea smoothie, which was magnificent with 1 teaspoon of match. then right before my last class i made a regular hot cup to go and it was decent except for the over powering chalky taste. i recommend using it for lattes or smoothies.

I am new to traditional Matcha preparation and taste. I would say that this tea is good for Matcha beginners that are new to the Matcha scene. This brand is on the expensive side for its quality though, it isn’t quite as rich and bold as I’d hoped that it would be.

It has a weak boldness that hits you in the back of your throat followed by a short-lived sweetness. It does have a weak grassy aftertaste that only lasts for a few minutes. Overall, I do enjoy this tea when I drink it, despite the weaker taste.

Last Words: Good for beginners looking to experiment, but rather weak and thin.

I wanted to love it… but I couldn’t. I realize that matcha is probably best when purchased from a Japanese company, but I saw Republic of Tea’s matcha in a Whole Foods and decided to try it.

One of the first ways to assess the quality of the matcha is the color of the tea. I was immediately disappointed when I opened it because the matcha had this very yellow tinge to it. I was looking forward to having a bright, beautiful green cup of matcha but when prepared, the tea still retained that very yellow tinge.

In terms of taste, it was very grassy and had a harsh edge to it. I’m just getting into matcha (I am by no means an expert!) but I could tell that it really wasn’t the best, especially in terms of price to quality ratio.

I wouldn’t recommend this tea, there are better brands to buy matcha from.

I bought this Matcha on a whim. I brought it back and prepared it as recommended. I found that the quality was rather disappointing for the price. It was somewhat weak and watery compared to other Matcha that I have tried. It wasn’t quite as smooth or bold as many Matcha lovers would prefer. However, when the flavor is there, it is good. This would be good for someone new to Matcha, you’ll get the Earthy, full taste, but less bold than it is in higher-grade matcha.

i started off the day with an invigorating cup of stone ground matcha. it really is the green tea equivalent of a hearty English breakfast or Kenyan CTC. my teaspoon wasn’t exactly heaping, but more than level, so i added more matcha this time and less water. the result was a dark, creamy-looking sage green. i added a tbsp and 1/2 of brown sugar, which totally cut the minerality & canceled out the bitterness. the aroma was ‘caramelly’ sweet & smelled of brown sugar enveloped in green tea! in other words, i could smell the brown sugar, but it was really nice with the matcha base! then i added soy milk, which gave this a creamy depth and more body with an extra touch of nutty sweetness. needless to say, i totally don’t have a craving for a strong black or dessert tea (not even my usual Nutcracker Sweet!)….this really hit the spot! i’m beside myself.

to think, this is essentially a shot of chlorophyll!! thank god for additives.

This is the first matcha I’ve tried that I can identify. I’ve had matcha lattes and desserts before but this is the first one I’ve actually bought. I can’t compare it to other matchas but it’s not bad. I may try using this in other ways than straight up.

It’s interesting to drink. First it’s strongly bitter and green, almost grassy, then nothing at all for a moment or two, and then a very nice sweet aftertaste. Luckily I have some other matcha samples coming, because I’m definitely intrigued.

This tea is ok, not outstanding, but it will do for the price. It is probably better than the Tazo brand of matcha that Starbucks uses.

I would have to disagree with MacchaMan. I found this tea to be wonderful. Yes, it is very veggie tasting, but it also (if frothed right) has a nice creaminess. It’s the kind of tea you can feel dancing in your veins and to be honest I crave it often. The Earthy taste is wonderful. As for the wateriness, I will say that you do have to add more tea and less water to get the best experience. Overall, I found that this is a rather nice take on Matcha and am very satisfied with it :)

NOT impressed AT ALL!!!! I bought this tea thinking it might be a superior grade/quality than their other matcha offering but sadly I was wrong.

Aroma: A little vegetal, thin and watery.

Taste: Same as aroma, a very watery, Earthy-spinach taste. Very thin, watery no balance, sweetness, or even astringency and no umami. No mouth feel, no drying…absolutely nothing. A very watery, thin, paleness to the palate. The taste is somewhat palatable; it is very Earthy as if the spinach still possess the grit and dirt from the Earth, not dirty, gritty or awful, but an earthiness that is more prominent than the vegetal aspect. This matcha seemed stale and old…the color is of a dark green almost the olive hue other matcha connoisseurs will recommend staying away from but you won’t know until you open the sealed bag that comes inside the canister.

Aftertaste: None.

To be honest, I would not recommend wasting your money on this one, there are a whole plethora of other brands out there that are far superior than this one. Furthermore, I must defend my somewhat high rating considering such a dismal descriptive tasting note; The Republic of Tea’s matcha, this “newer” version, did have an interesting taste profile, albeit a weak one, but none-the-less, interesting. It was the earthiness that was it’s saving grace.
