6 Tasting Notes
After a few months of gazing longingly at 3 Leaf Tea’s website, I finally decided to place my first order. I ordered butterscotch matcha (60g package) and this raspberry hot chocolate (1/2 Ib package with sugar, not raw cacao). The weather here was pretty bleak, so I decided to try the hot chocolate first…..and now I’m in love.
My first impression of powder was that it smelled divine. The biggest fear I had was that I wouldn’t be able to taste the raspberry, but I was pleasantly surprised. The raspberry was definitely there, but it didn’t over power the taste of the cacao itself. I also think the amount of sugar in the hot chocolate is just the right amount, it takes the bitter edge off the cacao, but not so much that it tastes like your eating a chocolate bar. I definitely look forward to trying 3 Leaf’s other flavors!!

This was the first Darjeeling I’ve ever tried and I definitely don’t regret it! This tea is very sweet tasting. It had notes of peach and honey. It’s very smooth and the flavors were fairly mellow, but not in a bad way. I’m kind of sad I didn’t order more of it before Butiki closed.
Flavors: Floral, Honey, Sweet
Preparation
I was given a sample of this tea by a friend. As a lover of mint, I was really excited to try one with green leaves instead an herbal mint tea.
The first sip I took, the mint was somewhat absent and I was a little disappointed. However, the mint gradually became more noticeable (but a little stale) without covering up the taste of the green tea itself (which was also a little stale).
I probably wouldn’t buy it myself, but it definitely helped my sore throat!
Flavors: Dust, Mint, Smooth
Preparation
I had this tea with dinner last night in the student union. I was really impressed with it! Smooth, spiced, but not too much, and a natural sweet flavor. I’m wary about chai teas, but this one is pretty good!
Flavors: Earth, Smooth, Spices, Sweet
Preparation
This tea was a part of a Christmas gift I received. It sat on my tea shelf for a while, but one day I decided to give it a shot. I was not disappointed.
As someone whole generally steers clear from rooibos, I was somewhat skeptical. The rooibos flavor is quite light compared to many other blends I’ve had. This tea really does remind me of an orange cream-sicle! The vanilla almost overpowers the orange, but it’s not a disappointing combination in the least. Despite my normal habits, I did add almond milk and sugar as the tea is intended to be enjoyed this way. For blood orange lovers, this tea is definitely worth a try!
Preparation
I bought this Matcha on a whim. I brought it back and prepared it as recommended. I found that the quality was rather disappointing for the price. It was somewhat weak and watery compared to other Matcha that I have tried. It wasn’t quite as smooth or bold as many Matcha lovers would prefer. However, when the flavor is there, it is good. This would be good for someone new to Matcha, you’ll get the Earthy, full taste, but less bold than it is in higher-grade matcha.
I still need to try these.
