From Teavana

An exotic union of floral and fruit, Shanghai Orchid’s exquisite fragrance transports you to a meditation garden in full bloom. Another favorite white tea! I like white teas in general since the flavor of the tea complements the fruit added inside so well. It’s fun to brew this and pretend like you are actually having tea time in Shanghai. This is one of those teas that I would only drink hot not cold.

This is a lovely light floral tea, with gorgeous notes of blossom and melon. I’m very fond of it, but I find it a bit insubstantial on its own, and I love it best when blended 50/50 with Teavana’s Peach Tranquility which accentuates its mellow nature but gives it added depth, sweetness and complexity.

I grew up with the smell of orchids in my house and this tea does not disappoint. In fact, it reminds me more of potpourri than tea. I love jasmine and orchids so I thought that orchid would be an excellent floral tea for me, but I’m just not feeling it. The fragrance is accurate but there’s something about it that does not sit well for me. I thought it would be perfect after growing up with an orchid person but I was wrong. I’ll keep trying it and experimenting. Hopefully it’s me and not the tea :P

A really good choice for a floral and fruity tea. A relaxing drink, but getting the amount/temperature/steeptime right is tricky. When you do hit the right combo it is incredible.

Turned out this is not my cuppa. Smells strongly perfume-y floral, the taste is sort of weak and can not feel the tea.

This became my favorite white tea for some time due to the amazing floral notes. But since the strong floral notes were so unique, it was only a “sometimes” tea for when I was in the mood for those flavors. I was sad when Teavana discontinued it, and have never found a suitable replacement since.

I miss this tea so much. It used to be a favorite of mine years and years ago. It is very floral and isn’t for everyone, which is my guess why it was discontinued.

Shanghai Orchid by Teavana is a fruity floral white tea blend. Unfortunately a terrible one! Sorry Teavana! It feels like drinking a bottle of bitter perfume. Thumbs down for this one I’m afraid!

I bought a bit of this a while back and I tried it using different methods. I’ve tried changing the temperature, using more tea, using less, and nothing I do can make this taste anything less like a fresh bar of soap. I’ve simply been blending it into other teas to make it bearable and get rid of it. I generally like a sweet, floral tea but this one just isn’t for me.

Sarah – good to blend with Rooibos Tropica. Too floral alone. Rating: 75
