From Teavana

Smooth infusion with bergamot overtones

Famously highbrow and high grown, our Earl Grey is a top-of-the-tier timeless classic. Aromatic bergamot adds a refined tart citrus taste to this dark, full-lead tea with prized tiny silver tips.

Use 1-1.5 tsp of tea per water. Heat water to 195-205 degrees (90-96 degrees Celsius) and steep for 2-3 minutes.

Ingredients: Black tea, artificial flavoring

This is an amazingly inoffensive variety of Earl Grey. It’s pretty light on the bergamot, which suits my purposes perfectly. I never drink this particular variety hot. I always make iced tea with it. It’s hearty enough to stand a little sweetening with Teavana’s German Rock Sugar. It’s also not too floral to mix with lemonade, if you’re a big Arnold Palmer fan like I am.

Not the best Earl Grey I’ve had, but it’s the best among what’s available in my local area. It’s also the cheapest thing on Teavana’s menu, making it a good daily drinker for patrons of the store. I typically use this tea as filler to get the 10% discount that Teavana offers when you buy a pound or more.

This tea makes me sad. Sad that I bought so much of it. Its hard when you only have access to tea by shopping on-line and you have to take that risk that your click of the button will be proven worthwhile.

It is an o.k. tea. A basic Earl Grey I suppose. I find something in it to be too overpowering than others I’ve tried since. It isn’t the bergamont scent either so it must be something in the tea leaves themselves. The only way I can save this is by adding quite a bit of milk and some sugar (or agave nectar).

I still brew up a pot from time to time mainly so I don’t feel wasteful and if I get the milk/sugar ratio right I can raise my interest in it from blah to well, at least it is a warm beverage.

Not a particularly great value for the price, but it does brew a fine cup of iced tea. Good balance of bergamot, too

A dark and rich flavor. I use it in blends as a base to concoct wild new flavors. It certainly does it’s job.

I had a sample sachet of this from my friend who works at Starbucks and gets free boxes of Teavana teas each week. It has been sitting there for a few months, and it is time I drank it.

Because I was super tired this morning, I wanted something caffeinated, and I know Teavana uses a heavily caffeinated black base for their Earl Grey. I can’t help wishing it was lavender Earl Grey or Earl Grey Cream because I prefer something a bit more interesting, but it was still good enough. A step above most bagged EGs for sure.

I brewed it with 2 tsp cashew milk and a pinch of brown sugar, which makes Earl Grey more palatable for me. Otherwise I find it too bold. The bergamot was there, the blend hinted at orange/citrus, and it was a decent cup.

Thanks to my wonderful friend mtchyg for this yummy sample!

Part of my preparation for this tea was yelling “Earl Grey! Black!” like Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek. One of the comforting things about Earl Grey is that it’s such a classic it probably WILL make it to 2364 (the year Next Gen is set, according to Wikipedia).

This particular Grey wields the bergamot like a battering ram. I kind of like that, but if you aren’t into aggressive citrus notes, you probably should back off. Like Captain Picard’s voice, this is a very rich and deep tea. It has a sturdy dark base. The caffeine level on this was four black diamonds (out of… how many?). Watch out, tea-drinker, you’re about to plunge off the deep end. Into… the final frontier.

AND NOW FOR A DIGRESSION. Who was everyone’s favorite Next-Gen character? Mine was Data. I’m not trying to influence you. I’m just saying: he was the obvious best.

Now you go.

Arby

Data is my favourite too, but I was pretty fond of many of the Romulans from the series. And Miles too, poor fellow always gets forgotten.

mtchyg

I’m in on Data as well.

My mother in law bought me some Teavana tea and gave it to me last night. It smells really nice but brewed in the way I did… the smell doesn’t translate as well. Or maybe it does and it is just covered up with a less than stellar base tea? Either way, bitter astringent cardboard is what I am getting. No thanks.

This is your average, everyday Earl Grey. Nothing special. Good flavors of bergamot and slight lavender.
