From Teapigs

Call us soppy romantics, but we like this story. A young man and a beautiful young woman from a tea plantation were in love, but the local tyrant seized her as his concubine. She escaped, only to learn that the tyrant had killed her lover. Finding his body deep in the mountains she wept and wept until she became the rain, while her lover’s body turned into a tea bush. Which is why, according to the legend, the area where Mao Feng tea grows is forever cloudy and humid the whole year round. All together now…ahhh! This tea is special, unlike any other green tea on the market. A green tea liked by people who don’t like green tea.

Drank my two teabags of this at work today. It’s been a busy and fustrating day pretty much in equal measure, so I didn’t get chance to drink a lot. I’m trying to change that — I don’t do myself any favours by becoming dehydrated and headachey — but it all went out of the window with my plans today. Still, I managed two cups of this, so things could be worse. It’s a fairly pleasant green, smooth and very grassy. It’s not the tea I remember from the first time I tried it, but it’s pretty good all the same. Easy to drink, refreshing, and fuss-free because it’s bagged. Just the thing today.

Fresh! Summery. Green sweet but a little grassy, too…not bad! Would have again!

The last tea from my Tea Pig tasting session today. This was a lovely golden colour when brewed and smelled very fresh.
It was a nice green tea but was rather bitter after a while and it just got stronger and stronger, perhaps next time I shall do a faster steeping to see if that fixes the problem.
Overall it’s an average green tea, perfect for every day use but not for those special moments. This tea just isn’t for me.

Have you tried steeping it at a lower temperature? I usually do mine at 170 – 180 F which cuts down on the bitterness.

When I do my other green tea’s I always use warm water instead of boiling but my husband made this one so I didn’t have a choice lol. You are right though it may help to reduce the bitterness, I will try it tomorrow. I just checked the Tea Pigs website as well and they said to use boiling water :/

Very drinkable. It lacks the depth of some other green teas but is perfect for everyday drinking.

As with many green teas, can be bitter and a little dry, however with a few cups, can be praised over for its light taste and refreshing, earthy scent. Good for a quick wake-up, (leaves have good character too and are fun to watch unfurling).

Green tea sachets. The dry leaves look dark and broken, the tea smell of chestnut, grape, and light nori. This tastes too much like a longjing. Savory chestnut, nori, vegetal sweetness, but lacking floral orchid notes. Pretty good for tea bags, would buy again if I went on a business trip and saw this on the shelf. I bought mine from Sprouts for $6-ish? I’m listing the price from the official website.

sold for $9.99 / 15 bags

A mild green tea with only a slight grassy flavor and none of the earthiness. It’s pleasant, but it doesn’t live up to the claims on the bag of a pale green color (definitely brown) or hints of fruit. I have been drinking all my advent teas hot, but I could see this as a pleasant iced tea.

Huzzah! I’ve been trying to hard to like the teas included in teapigs’ 2020 advent calendar and I haven’t been having much luck. But this is a nice one! It’s very light, very mild. I get the kind of grassy, green notes, maybe a touch of rice, but not the super vegetal flavour that gives a lot of green tea its depth. I’m happy with this “shallow” one. =] Drink it quickly, though—I could feel bitterness creeping in as soon as it started to cool.

This smells and tastes a little seaweedy. It’s not bad, but it’s not my preferred sort of tea. If you don’t mind savory teas, you might enjoy this one.
