From Tea Ave

Our Cape Jasmine Oolong is prepared using the ancient method, in which the tea absorbs the flower fragrance during the baking progress, producing a scented tea that’s aromatic and flavorful without using any additives or chemicals. It’s good for you and delicious.

An elegant, luxurious tea, Cape Jasmine Oolong has a subtle fragrance of the fog that it was grown in. Cape Jasmine Oolong has a clean, aromatic floral scent, and its flavor slightly sweet with just a hint of spice. Classic vegetal oolong undertones.

This is another sachet sample from TeaAve. Thank you!

This was a very light smooth oolong with hints of Jasmine. This had a somewhat creamy texture, but not quite as creamy as the Ginger Lilly. This was one of the best Jasmine teas I have had. The flavoring blending so well with the base. How do you guys do that? It was slightly floral, creamy, mixed with the perfect amount of Jasmine. Another oolong I was blown away by. Thank you!

When their stores opens I am going to have to get buckets of this tea, so good!

TeaTiff

I am not a HUGE Jasmine fan, so I actually think I will be ordering buckets for the Ginger Lilly, but I still have 4 samples to go through. If they are all this good my tea budget might be shot as soon as the TeaAve doors open for business!

Cape Jasmine! I just had the regular

Alishan…. need I say more? OK, how about the addition of a light scent of Jasmine? So yeah, this is really good. Except, man I can’t go with their steeping directions. 8g for 130ml. That might work for some of you. I went 4g for 90ml.

The first cup was excellent. It was lightly jasmine followed by the wonderful sweet florals of the high mountain oolong. I had flashes of citrus bouncing between orange and lemon.

By the second cup all that leaf had filled my tiny gaiwan and I did not like this cup. Just too much. It was like a cup of geraniums. Maybe this would work with flash steeps but at 1m 15s I was overwhelmed.

I moved the leaf over to my glass teapot and used 10oz of water for cup three. Yeah, this is much more the way I like my tea. Lovely oolong florals. Just a touch of jasmine. This drifted into a good mineral with spice. The aftertaste was sweet, lingering, oolong.

Jasmine and oolong make a great pairing. Not sure why this is the first time I have seen it. Anyway, thanks Tea Ave. and great start to my samples.

Hey KS. How long did you do your first infusion. 1 minute?
I used about the same proportions of leaf to water that you did and found this tea a bit lacking in flavor. It was really light, and this is the usual amount I use for rolled oolongs, and several other of the Tea Ave oolongs tasted great this way. Though I did not use fully boiling water (about 194F) and only infused the first infusion for 45 seconds. I may have to pile on a little extra next time.

K S

I did use boiling water and a 1 minute steep. I tend to like subtle teas but I don’t recall this being a lightweight. In fact I know the second cup was too much for my tastes because I thought it was over leafed. I sort of followed the instructions but my normal procedure would be 2 1/2 – 3 grams and 8 – 10 ounces of water (250 – 300 ml). I also tend to drink after the cup has cooled more than most people like it. I taste pretty much nothing with a really hot cup.

Thanks so much to Teaave for this sample! So, jasmine and I have not been the best of friends. I really have to be in the mood. This one didn’t smell too strong based on the dry leaf, so I had a feeling I might enjoy it more, and guess what? I did! This is the best jasmine tea I’ve ever had. It is so creamy and buttery with a fresh flower petal taste, not that I’ve ever eaten flowers, but it’s what you imagine they taste like from the fragrance. Sweet, more than just floral, like it has substance, like thick flower petals. It’s floral, but not perfume-y, if you know what I mean. So good! If I were to have a jasmine tea in my cupboard, this would be the one! By the way, have any of you noticed the additional photos Teaave put up on their Steepster tea pages? Omg, the tins and other packaging are so nice! I can’t wait for their online store to open! That $15 off will not be going to waste!

Ooh! Your description is so tempting I feel like it should be written on the side of their box. :D I do love the packaging, too! The photos look like postmodern art. %)

A while back I got a message from Tea Ave, offering samples of their new oolong. I’m SO glad I signed up, because look what just came in the mail:

Not to mention a gift card and 3 sample pouches. Tres deluxe!

So this one first: as someone who likes jasmine but is more than a little sensitive to florals, I appreciate this light approach to the flavor. I definitely taste it, but it’s a side note to the oolong. The instructions said boiling water for 1 minute; I was a bit leary, but did it anyway, and I DO think boiling water is right for this. It didn’t taste at all scorched or astringent, and I think these leaves need the extra heat to bring out the flavor. As is not uncommon for jasmine tea, the flavor got a bit stronger and more balanced when the tea cooled slightly (something that wide-mouthed cup helped with immensely).

Anyway, so excited about this new company! Their official launch isn’t till March and it looks like their website (teaave.com) is still under wraps, but I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for them. Thank you, Tea Ave!
