From Simpson & Vail

The green tea base of this blend perfectly carries a full flavor with a smooth, creamy taste. The delightful aroma and tantalizing taste are reminiscent of weekends in Grandma’s cozy kitchen!

Ingredients: Green tea, currants, orange peel, figgy pudding flavor, cinnamon, sweet blackberry leaf, raspberry pieces and cornflowers.

S&V Advent Day 22! I love British puddings, so I’ve been eager to try this one for years. Unfortunately, the flavor is mostly floral. There might be a bit of vanilla in the aftertaste, which is nice. Nothing about it tastes like any pudding I’ve ever had. The base is decent, but the strong floral flavor is so out of place for the name of the tea.

Simpson & Vail Advent Calendar: Day 22

Gah, I got distracted doing some holiday baking and oversteeped this one! And unfortunately it’s now quite bitter. But I don’t think I’d love it anyway… there’s an artificial vanilla custard-y note that is a bit jarring alongside the fruitiness. It kind of smells like a hand lotion, actually…

Not gonna rate it since I massacred the steep!

A friend dropped by with the S&V Holiday sampler today for us to try some of the teas.

This was Ashman’s favorite for drinking as a plain tea, though St. Nick’s won as a blend that would be good plain or as a latte and dessert-like cuppa to top with whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles. He said he is partial to green tea or white tea over black tea generally,
so not a big surprise.

He was a little unsure about the aroma but loved the flavor. They say there is figgy pudding flavor in this, but we have never had figgy pudding so we will take their word for it.

It definitely smells very fruity and I tasted vanilla. I thought I was tasting some clove and Ashman did, too, but there is none here and we decided it was the orange peel mixing with the cinnamon that came across as very mild clove.

This was good, but I don’t know that I need to order it when the cupboard gets lower.

Advent Calendar 2024 – Day 22

Didn’t end up drinking much of this one, as my stomach was bothering me. It’s a bit of an odd one to me, as mostly it tastes like vanilla custard? I know sometimes steamed puddings are served with a custard sauce so maybe that’s what they were going for. But I didn’t really taste any of the actual pudding.

First sips: this tastes like liquified French vanilla ice cream. After some more sips, a hint of cinnamon comes out. It’s almost like I’m drinking warm apple pie with vanilla ice cream on top. A says the same and enjoyed it too.

Thanks Cameron!
