White Pear

A tea as numbingly uncomplicated and unflavorful as life itself right now, and consumed just as habitually and mindlessly. I collected a bountiful supply of tea courtesy of ashmanra, and this has been my first sipdown project of the year coinciding with the return to academics. I’m one week deep in another semester and watching Cells at Work because one of my professors is a giant weeb and this has awoken a suppressed part of me that also desires to be but without success.

This tea brews a little dark. Steepster recommends a steeping time of four minutes, but the packaging recommends two to three and I personally tear off the string and plop the bag in the cup indefinitely because I’m a neanderthal. I can only touch so many wet strings before it starts to get old, okay. Speaking of wet strings, I just discovered I inadvertently steeped one of the drawstrings of my pajama pants in my tea because my room is so cold that I wedge my warm teacups in my lap or inside my hoodies to sustain me.

As for the tea itself, it doesn’t stand out as anything special. I identify pear in the aroma more than in the flavor. It’s drying, insubstantial, and not very receptive to resteeping. I drank several cups of this one night after a period of time in which I drank very little tea and I was wired for all but maybe two hours of the night. We’ve had some wild times, but I’ll be happy to move on from this tea and on to more enjoyable blends that taste less like pajama pants.

Another from the Revolution sampler pack- and this one is a winner. I forgot how much I enjoy White teas. I really should pick up more. My stash is lacking.

This one had a lovely pear scent and was delightful to drink. The pear taste was clean and not too heavy. The tea was tasty and smooth.

Coldbrew one sachet in 600mL cold water (30 minutes).

The pear flavour is very mild, almost non-existent. The base is a bit fruity, however there is a lot more vegetal flavour. I’m not impressed with this tea brand, and especially not this flavour.

I had this from a friends, and this was a nice combo. I tasted the white tea distinctly having the sweet hot hay notes it normally has, which in turn provided the soft body for the pear. It tasted like hot pear juice, and did not need any sweetener. I got two good steeps out of it. Something that I would want again, but not something that urges me. Good flavored tea. Tea purists, be warned.

Delicious, everyday tea. Very comforting. I get a lot of osmanthus in this. I have a soft spot for osmanthus tea, it’s a tea I always drank to relax in college, so I really like this.

Kind of hard to describe the taste – but it definitely pear-y. Very sweet yet calming. I’m not usually a white tea drinker, but I liked this one.

This little treasure was given to me by a woman in my steampunk club. No explanation, just “You like tea. Here, take this ziplock baggie of random teas”. It came in an adorable little box with no brewing instructions and I brewed the heck out of it (I’m at work; distractions are par to the course).

I was surprised at how dark the liquor was, like a mahogany varnish. The smell is delicate and definitely full of pear. When I sip it, I can tell it’s oversteeped, but its just the barest edge of…bitter. I agree that it tastes like a light black, without the grassy earthiness of green. (Is that what white tastes like?) And I do get some of the pear flavor coming through, definitely at the front and end (breath) of the taste. It’s light, and I enjoy that it’s sweet and not overwhelming. I would love to try this again with a shorter steep time. But, for now, This is a nice wake-me-up-on-a-cold-afternoon tea.

Not all that thrilling, in my opinion. Tried it hot, and while it smelled and looked nice there wasn’t a whole lot of flavor. Delicate and a little bit sweet and otherwise indistinct. Not enough pear flavor to impress me.

I am chilling the rest of the box for use as iced tea right now, and I suspect it will be much better that way. In general I like white tea better cold.

UPDATE: This tea is much better iced! The flavor is subtle and cold suits it well.

Not my favourite. It would probably be decent if I were just expecting a slightly sweet white tea, but I was really looking forward to a deep pear flavour… which I did not get. I guess I’ll keep searching. It is light and soothing, but I can’t see myself buying another box.

I must have done something wrong on this one, because it was seriously bitter. Unfortunately, this is the only bag I had. From what I can taste (besides the bitterness) this tea probably has potential. I could taste some pear, especially in the aftertaste. Prepared with stevia.
