I am getting a cold, so not a good time to be enjoying any new teas. But this was the exception, ginger tea usually really helps my throat. Fresh ginger tea is the most effective but that takes work and when getting a cold all I want is to toss a teabag into a cup of boiling water. Twinings´ Ginger and Lemon has been pretty useful at being that so far. But a while ago I was given this Pukka sample, which I was saving for the right occasion.

It´s OK to good. It´s not too spicy, nothing comparable to the kick of fresh ginger, but that makes it easier to keep drinking. It does have some kick, a milder aftertaste. It supposedly contains liquorice, a pet hate of mine, but I can not really spot it. I think I can spot the taste of the turmeric, and I don´t really like it, that note tastes sorts of muddy to me.

Am I going to buy this? Probably not if I can find the Twinings one. I like better the taste of the Twinings, it is a bit more sinus clearing hot and it is also probably cheaper (to be confirmed when I find it). This Pukka tea feels stupidly expensive here to me – around 5 euros for an admittedly very pretty box of 20 foil-sealed teabags. Only advantage the Pukka tea has to me is precisely the portability and convenience of those sealed teabags.

I think I got a red pepper flake stuck in my soft palate last night and I awoke many times through the night to discover my sinuses impacting and my throat becoming increasingly sore. I’m drinking this tea hoping it will ease my sore throat.

For a bagged product the ginger flavor is quite significant. I’m impressed. It does seem to have been sweetened in some way, though, which is a shame. It doesn’t need it.

It does seem to be easing the worst of the rawness in my throat, too.

I love ginger in tea…. and it is good for you!

I usually just boil ginger root.

Mercuryhime

I don’t know if I’d want something spicy to dislodge a spice from my throat. hehe But I’m glad it’s making you feel better. Getting sick is the worst.

Jim Marks

Well, the pepper flake was long gone by morning, but the damage was done. This particular ginger tea isn’t spicy at all. The addition of the licorice root makes it very round and sweet.

But then, I have a very weird relationship with spice.

I got this for occasional stomach upsets, and it definitely does the trick in that regard. This tastes to me both peppery and gingery at the same time. I made the mistake of sniffing the teabag, and it got right up my nose and make me shnuff!

This isn’t the kind of tea that I tend to drink for the sheer enjoyment of it, but for the function. The fluctuation in temperatures here in Houston have led to me feeling like I’ve been fighting off a cold. My Japanese tutor recommended ginger, as she herself combats feeling ill with warming herbs. So, I nabbed this one and am feeling good after drinking it.

Get this one for after meals and to stave off the blorgie, not because it tastes better than any other ginger tea, per se. About the same to me, but the addition of turmeric, etc. helps enhance the medicinal effects. Actually, as a last minute note I’ll add that this is really biting on the tongue- so perhaps it is a bit stronger than most ginger teas.

I like ginger myself…

I love ginger- although I tend to save straight ginger teas for when I need to heal something :)

I like my gingertea to be sweet. Out of ten stars it’s a five star gingertea.

I feel like I should say that, for the record, I am a fiend when it comes to spicy food. So when I drink this tea I would describe it as ‘pleasantly warm’, and I wouldn’t even consider it spicy.

For me it’s smooth and does wonders to settle my stomach. It’s a sipping tea, but I tend to sip teas as is so that’s not a problem for me. And, for those who are so inclined, I’ve found that it actually mixes quite well with white wine, especially reisling.

I had this at a local restaurant as an appetizer recently and I was surprised (pleasantly) by it. I do love ginger tea, but this is a sweet and spicy one, not just the spice. I often drink it to settle my stomach or to help digest after meals but the sweetness of this really made it feel like a treat before my meal. I wouldn’t buy it I don’t think, but I’m really into loose teas over bagged teas, however I would certainly order it again!

Three Gingers made me feel very warm when I drank it for the first time. I wouldn’t drink big amount of this tea at once because the taste was… Well, it wasn’t actually that strong, but it was that kind of that I wouldn’t like a lot of it at the time. Three Ginger tea tastes nice, it’s pretty okay and I’m definitely drinking it again, but it wasn’t suitable for morning or evening tea with it’s unique flavour – I prefer more down to earth, soothing flavours in the end and the beginning of the day.

The taste is quite nice, with the ginger and liquorice. I love ginger and I adore the smell.
The strength of the flavour is quite low though. Usually I set a whole pot with a single bag, but this one needed more than one bag to get any flavour.
Two bags on 1.5L gave it a nice sweet, but still spicy taste. With a nice aftertaste.
Quite expensive though. €3.99 in the Netherlands.

Not nearly as much ginger as I had hoped for. Smells good, but the taste is a bit bland, even after the recommended steep time and then some. Quite expensive here in Sweden.

This has a nice strong ginger flavor. It’s good sweetened, but nothing special. I think I still prefer straight ginger, but I am enjoying the little extra something that’s here. It’s not that spicy. I like it cold and sweetened. I wouldn’t have minded grabbing another bag or two of this from the TTB!

ashmanra

I need to keep an eye out for this one because it sounds like it would make a great tea soda that would taste like Gingerale.

AJRimmer

That’s a great idea!
