Cuppa from earlier in the week.

I stand by my first impression that this is violet flavoured and not lilac. I do absolutely love it though. Lush florals with a perfect natural sweetness. I think I described it last time as tasting “plump” and… yeah. Yeah, it does.

It’s funny – I have a coworker who, like me, loves violet flavoured teas and another who HATES them. When I steeped this one up in the office I had a near simultaneous “Ooh, that smells great” followed by “Oh, what the hell is that”. I found it amusing, at least.

Its been a while since my last tasting note. Ive recovered and im back to enjoying my teas. This tea actually came in a spring collection box with four other teas. Its a black tea flavored with lilac essence. Im a fan of floral scented teas. This was a pretty mellow black tea for me, some that arent used to floral scented teas found it overwhelming but recommended combining it with other complementary teas. I didnt do it this time, i had it with a splash of milk and a bit of panela sugar. It was nice, i liked it. I would see myself buying it in the future.

Another from AJRimmer!  Thank you yet again!  This is an odd one.  I really can’t tell what the flavors are trying to do here.  It doesn’t really have a tea-like-fragrance at all.  I’m not sure what it’s doing, and I can’t say I like the flavor very much anyway.  It’s just not very tasty to my tastebuds.  To me, the flavor is very subtly cherry if I can tell it’s anything. I will say, I LOVE these tiny flowers though.  I think I have only ever seen them in a Simpson & Vail blend.  But tiny flowers can’t be the only thing a tea has to win me over.  I’d pass on this one.   Spring is in BLOOM here though!

I’m not a floral tea fan, but I’ve been trying to push my boundaries a little, so I bought this tea. The black tea is too light for me, barely making an appearance. I think the flower was supposed to be lilac, but I guess I haven’t had that before, so all I can say is that it tastes generically floral. It’s too floral for me, but that’s just my personal preference. The cup ends up with very weak black tea overpowered by a huge floral flavor. It needs something else complementing that flavor. I added milk, which didn’t seem to do much.

Dustin

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a lilac tea! It seems like a very elusive flavor in general. Too bad it wasn’t more distinct in this tea for you.

AJRimmer

Yeah, I’d definitely like to try one from another company at some point for the sake of comparison!

Simpson and Vail has a lilac tea… not sure how accurate it is, but it’s plenty floral. It’s very cheap and you can buy just an ounce of it at a time (just looked at their site.)

Dustin

They sell in 1oz bags now?! That changes things!

AJRimmer

Wow that’s crazy cheap! S&V is the best!

Mastress Alita

It seems it is only that tea available in 1oz, not a global thing. Most of their herbals, the literary teas, park teas, etc. are still only available as 4 oz… sigh.

tea-sipper

Yeah, it depends on the tea with S&V for some reason. Some are available in all sizes. The great people at S&V are very accommodating, so if you wanted to ask about specific teas being sold with only an ounce or two, they might let you purchase them that way Mastress Alita. I have never tried it, though.

AJRimmer Advent Day 10

I made a cup of this and put it in my new ceramic travel thermos that arrived today and I feel like the tea was tainted by the new mug. I had prewashed it and everything. :( Second steeping went into my regular mug and it much better. It’s a good cup of tea and it’s smooth, but I’m not able to pin the light floral flavors I’m tasting on top of the base which is also light. I thought it might be fruit, but as it has cooled it seems to have a rose aftertaste. The kind that eating petals leaves, not a rose candy perfume type of taste. There were cute and tiny buds in the tea mix that looked like mini rose buds. Heather maybe? There isn’t much info on the Steepster page for this tea and I can’t find it on Plum Deluxe’s website either. Thanks for sharing some of your newly acquired tea, AJR!

Just looked at the ingredients on the bag, and you’re totally right! Heather flowers. The only other ingredient listed is lilac essence. This one smells great – I look forward to trying it this spring!
