Broccoli Cilantro (Savory Tea)

I tried this last night. I bought it has part of the savory tea collection.

I love broccoli and I love cilantro. This was the first one of the box that I wanted to try as I truly enjoy the combination in other items.

This tastes like a savory soup! I can’t believe how good it is! This would be great with a light lunch or as something to hold you over until dinner.

What a yummy surprise. I have never tasted anything quite like it!

Okay, finally one that isn’t from the Tea & Cards box. I’ve been eying the garden sampler of these for a while and finally sprung for it: I like vegetable teas as a rule and these look so interesting. I’m having a little before-bed snack and thought this would go well with it. (It does, for the record: spiced goat cheese and pretzels.) This smells so good! It’s like soup, in the best possible way. I want to eat the bag but I think I’ll hold off for now.

I expected this to steep up green, but it’s actually orange! It smells a little spicy brewed up, too. Maybe that’s the turmeric coming through? It tastes like soup, too! Good soup, of course, and without all the salt. It would be fun to try and cook with this as a soup base or seasoning, but I also like drinking it.

ETA: The blend of spices in this leaves the effect of salt on my tongue even though there’s none in this cup. How interesting!

The teabag has a very strong aroma of dried soup mix or cubed bouillon – or… seasoning salt.

The liquor is reminiscent of consommé of some sort. I smell tomato, spinach, maybe celery? It’s like hot V8 and I’m afraid to try it.

Wow. It’s the liquid left after you’ve boiled broccoli. I don’t taste cilantro.

I don’t know what to say. Sell it as a broth to be used as a noodle soup base but I just can’t drink it straight as tea. Somewhere, I imagine Numi board members laughing and saying, “I told you, people will drink anything!”

Ramen, anyone?

I love this and I wish they still made it. The vegetable teas were an acquired taste. They’re not exactly like tea, and not exactly like soup. You would think a broccoli tea would smell like fart water but it really doesn’t— the coriander takes the lead, and it has a nice herbal umami flavor that makes a great savory snack. And the bags are quite large and you can have a few cups before the flavor fades too much.

I made the mistake of trying the tomato mint tea first, because it sounded the safest, and it was actually the only one out of the sampler I didn’t like. Maybe others did the same, and didn’t give the others a chance. Anyway I’m very disappointed they don’t make the veggie teas anymore.

I’m actually very surprised that I didn’t brew this as a joke for someone…

This did not taste like broccoli, carrot if anything… then again, broccoli is my favorite vegetable so I am picky with it.

This wasn’t bad though, but it also wasn’t as satisfying as a soup broth. The flavoring is off, but it is drinkable to the point that I drank 10 ounces; then I got hungry though.

My favorite of the veggie teas thus far. Broccoli Cilantro has less of a broccoli taste and more of a pesto, herbal flavor that’s surprising pleasant as a with-dinner drink. I didn’t expect to like any of the veggie teas, but this one made a great impression.

Well goodbye savory teas – this was the last one given to me by Cameron B. and now I am out. I actually enjoyed them all a lot more than I ever expected to. I may look into buying them; I wouldn’t mind having more of the Tomato Mint around! That was probably my favourite out of them all.

This was definitely, in my opinion, the mildest out of all the flavours. Mostly, it was broccoli and onion but in a much gentler way than one would think those flavour could come across. Decent and enjoyable; probably somewhere “in the middle” of all the ones I tried as there were far better, and far worse.

Numi’s savory options are not nearly as good as Millie’s Savory Teas, but unlike Millie’s they are decaf which makes them a great option for a midnight snacking.
This one tastes like… broccoli! With a hint of cilantro. No surprises there. There’s also some garlic and onion swimming around in there. I find it a bit wimpy but it can be greatly improved with the addition of some garlic pepper. Overall not bad, and the convenience factor of having teabag snacks laying around make it well worth a re-purchase.

Yay, last tea of the evening here. The bag itself smells strongly of celery salt and garlic, which I didn’t expect. I brewed it for 10 minutes in boiling water, as per the package directions.

Brewed, it smells like broccoli, celery salt, and onion salt. Like a nice vegetable broth! :) The flavor is quite good too. The broccoli is definitely the base of this tea, and the cilantro pops out and says halloo! It has a nice little herbaceous, spicy kick. I can definitely taste the celery and onion salt as well in here, especially near the end. This one would probably be quite good with a bit of salt added, but I’m enjoying it plain right now. A lovely bedtime tea!

The boyfriend and it went out to dinner tonight, so I had a cup of this around 6 to hold me over till he got of work at 8. I noticed how swollen the bag gets (and maybe I’m having too much fun with loose leaf teas), so I ripped the bag open and steeped it in my French press to allow plenty of room for the broccoli to expand. After steeping I added in a little bit of chicken broth base stuff (the liquidy type you keep in a fridge) to instead of plain salt. While it masked any remaining tea flavor that might have been left, it made for a delicious broth soup that really did satisfy me. This tea is so tasty and fun with so many possibilities.
