From Lupicia

“La vie en rose”, a French phrase that can be translated to “life in rose/pink”, is the name of this beautiful ruby-colored herbal tea. With a slight acidity and a hint of rose scent, our caffeine-free rooibos tea is accented with tart hibiscus, rose hip, and flower petals. Available online for a limited time only.

The last sentence almost made me spit out my tea. LOL! Too funny!

I’m not sure it’s even fair for me to review this tea, since I am not a fan whatsoever of red rooibos.

Good points: It has less of that “wet dog” note than most red rooibos, but it’s still very present.
Seems to be a nice quality- very handsome, robust rooibos leaves brewed to a gorgeous mahogany colour.

Bad points: The “rose” flavour combined with the rooibos gives it a rather unpleasant medicinal note. It even smells of cough syrup- that boozy, cherry artificial scent.

This one, sadly, is a tosser for me. Worth exploring if red rooibos with a boozy cough syrup infusion is to your personal taste. Again, I hate all those notes so take my review with a grain of salt. I tried to give objective points for the tea quality, however.

I also dislike red rooibos. It always always reeks of Robitussin to me. I had one from Lupicia that was pretty good – maybe Caramel Rum or something? – mainly because the flavorings drowned out the red rooibos. I love green rooibos for flavored tea, though!

Yes- Robutussin! I was trying to recall the name of that awful cough syrup. I’m in the same boat as you- green rooibos all the way! I can tolerate some reds but they mostly have that awful note that I just cannot get over.

Sipdown no. 7 of 2021 (no. 627 total).

I was pretty generous with my rating in my first note, and I think I really ought to bump it down some, so I am.

It’s pleasant enough, but it is heavy on the rooibos. And while the rooibos isn’t overly woody, I wanted to taste the other flavors more. I see that I also said this in my original note, so at least I’m consistent.

In particular, I really got very little rose, if any, in my last few cups. While too much rose can be a bad thing (and taste like a mouth full of soap or lotion), if it’s going to be called La Vie En Rose, I think the rose ought to be at least noticeable.

Pretty good tea; the rooibos is much more tame in this tea than other rooibos based teas. I steeped this a little less than 4 minutes so that might be why this wasn’t overly strong. The rose was the dominant flavor and it was delicate and aromatic

This tastes of rooibos, hibiscus, and a touch of flowers. It has a pretty name but not a pretty taste. Now I know.

It smelled a lot nicer than it tasted. I was surprised by the amount of rose hips in this tea. OVERWHELMING. I couldn’t taste anything but it.
