If you are out of champagne, and need something wonderful to go with your two remaining pot de creme, Vanilla Comoro will do the trick! Mmmm! So good with classic desserts. I am making a new rule – when I give a dinner party I’m making a big pot of this just like I make a big pot of coffee, and the guests can choose what they want. I have firmly gone over to the TEA side of things since being introduced to Vanilla Comoro. :)

Also – I got my grade for this semester!!

A

!!!!!!

I’m so pleased because this class was HARD and SO outside my comfort zone. We took our final on the last day, then submitted our final project via the internet, so that was 45% of my grade that I had no idea how I did on, and I’ve been on pins and needles!!! I feel like a huge weight has lifted from my shoulders. I’m SUPER excited about my class next semester – The Literature of Childhood. It’s wrong that I hope I get loads of Homework and have to write 10 papers, right?

Preparation
Boiling 4 min, 0 sec
gmathis

Don’t know about the papers, but does this mean you’ll get to revisit Little House on the Prairie and Trixie Belden and Little Women and all the books I mangled from multiple readings from 3-6th grade? :)

JacquelineM

The professor hasn’t posted this semester’s book list yet, but previous classes (yes, Im such a nerd I checked) have included Neil Gaiman, Roald Dahl, Oscar Wilde (his telling of fairy tales!!), the 3rd Harry Potter Book, Frances Hodgson Burnett, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry… all authors that I love and read as an adult on my own! I was joking with my coworkers that I would pay double to take this class :)

JacquelineM

oh! and once I get the book list I’ll let you know what is on board for this semester :)

Angrboda

Congratulations, what an awesome result. :)

Rabs

Hooray! That’s awesome :D Your next class sounds pretty mind-blowingly awesome as well — I can’t wait see your book list!

ashmanra

Wonderful! But you are brilliant and I am not at all surprised that you made a “A!” Your upcoming class sounds heavenly!

LadyLondonderry

Congratulations and Happy New Year, Jacqueline! I must try Vanilla Comoro in 2011, preferably sooner rather than later.

Enjoy your upcoming children’s lit class … I hope you get to revisit Narnia as well.

Alannah

Ooh, congrats!!

Lisbet

I now want to invite myself to any dinner party you throw ;)

yhsi_

God bless :)

Today was a dreadful, hard, very full day. I bumbled around at work, a million people called, all the hard clients had questions, and I felt generally useless. And I got stabbed in the neck in fencing tonight. Its not dangerous, but you do feel it. Hopefully no bruises come the morning.
Gah. Dreadful. I am spending the evening curled up in a little ball with a book and tea. And this is my poison.
Help me, vanilla.
Here is tomorrow being a better day!

__Morgana__

Yikes re the stabbing. Ugh. To better days!

JustJames

i played wheelchair rugby. i hope you don’t bruise =0\

It’s gone. I just drank the last bag. :|

I needed it though. I’m grumpy and stressed out and I just want to relax and I’ve got half an hour to do it. So… fuck it. Vanilla Comoro time!

ashmanra

Sorry you were stressed! Hope it is already all better…

TeaLady441

Thanks! Much better now! I just needed to relax a bit, and I managed to. Even resteeped this bag for this morning!

Sil

go shopping! lol i kid ’cause i hate that..but yes..i picked up another dress…and skirt lol

Fjellrev

Glad everything’s much better now! Let’s hope you’ll get more of this soon.

TeaLady441

Hahaha. Yeah I know ALL ABOUT retail therapy! I guess I might need to figure out where to get nice dresses or something because I’ll need a new job in Toronto and I probably won’t be able to get away with jeans and a tee shirt anymore. :| But stressing about work, means shopping for work clothes to help relieve the stress!

This is a bit of a revelation. I still have half a pound of this from my hasty mega-purchase a few years ago. I constantly give it away, but it reproduces like gremlins.

Knowing its tendency to become a bit bitter and dry, I steeped it quick (about 2.5 minutes) and added a small splash of milk and a bit of honey. This brings it back to sweet, creamy, vanilla. Not my favourite and I definitely regret buying so much but this will make it really easy to drink some more at work. No re-steeping, dear heaven.

Flavors: Cream, Vanilla

Preparation
Boiling 2 min, 30 sec 1 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML
Cathy Baratheon

I totally get the bitter dryness too! Will also try 2.5 minutes as opposed to the recommended 5

Uniquity

I find it makes a difference. Sometimes you need a bit more leaf to make up for the loss in time. Another option is to use water that has cooled for a minute or so. I think it is the decaf tea that lends the unpleasant bitter/dry aspect and these tricks help defeat it.

Cheri

Thanks for the tips. I have a sachet of this that I need to try still.

The only tea that I could think of tonight was Vanilla Comoro. I finally drank enough out of my very firmly packed pound bag to be able to shake up the leaves a bit. I was looking for the mysterious specks that JacquelineM has been raving about. To be honest, I wasn’t even sure what she was talking about, until I saw the specks!! I made sure to include a good amount of specks in my measuring spoon and I was rewarded handsomely for my efforts. The tea seems to have even more vanilla and is even richer than before. The specks really do make a big difference – I would never have guessed that!

There is just so much vanilla in this tonight! I even added a small amount of my favorite dark chocolate creamer for fun – fully expecting the chocolate to take over. However, the vanilla is definitely overpowering the chocolate! I am in vanilla heaven! Okay, I need to attend to this delicious pot of tea now!

Preparation
5 min, 45 sec
Uniquity

I want specks! I even made up 4 T-sacs of this stuff to give to a co-worker and I still don’t have specks. I wonder if I could add some, : )

JacquelineM

May the specks be with you!!!!

gmathis

OK, I’m going to have to investigate this further. I don’t believe I’ve ever read a review of this that isn’t a rave. A friend tucked a tin of the decaf version into a gift box and truthfully, I wasn’t exactly enchanted. But all the smileys and exclamation marks make me feel sure I’ve missed something!

ashmanra

I thought the specks were dregs the first few times I made this so I poured them out of the bottom of my cup thinking they would be bitter. Then I tasted them. Now I am sneaky and I time it so that I pour the last cup from the pot in MY cup, then I lick my finger and get all the little specks just for me! Heehee! :) I guess it is bits of vanilla bean or vanilla seeds!

teawing

I agree with Gmathis, too many race reviews out there, I am going to have to try it!

This is very picky but luckily today it is a success and I don’t know what I did. Creamy, rich, decadent, French vanilla buttercream goodness. Yum!

carol who

I’m not sure how the decaf Vanilla Comoro compares but I really like the decaf version in the evenings.

VariaTEA

Is there a non-decaf version?

Dustin

I had some last night and it was a fail. Do you remember how you steeped it?

VariaTEA

2.5 min but I don’t know what temp. I know I let the kettle sit for a little bit though

TeaLady441

I noticed it’s hit and miss, even when (I swear) I steeped it the same. I gave up on it and started adding milk to maximize my enjoyment of it even though it’s cheating.

VariaTEA

This is the one tea I always add milk to.

OMGsrsly

Adding milk isn’t cheating! I love this one with milk. I usually steep 3 min at 195F. However, Waves carries H&S and I get this one to go often in the evenings, and I don’t know what the stats are for that.

donkeyteaarrrraugh

I put milk in all my tea. My stomach demands it. You get to the point where you can taste the sublety of the teas through the milk because the milk is the constant. There are purists, but I’m a milkist…and proud of it! :)

carol who

I get the Decaf Vanilla Comoro at a nearby grocery store. It’s in teabags. I haven’t had any particular trouble – 212F, 2.5 min. I use Stevia with it, no milk. Lovely in the evening when you want a black tea ;-P

This has got to be one of the most oft-reviewed teas ever, so all I’ll say is that I’m glad to have some back under my roof. First time I’ve tried it in sachet form; the tin smelled just like a cookie jar. Don’t get too cocky and leave the bag in indefinitely; there is a point where it starts getting snitty on you.

mj

lol @ the warning

SarsyPie

Heh. Snitty is a great word!

Cameron B.

I’ve had this tea come out bitter several times. >:(

Miss Starfish

Thanks for the warning! I’ve been conserving my tin between it being the only decaffeinated black in the house and trying to use up other stock. I won’t hold off when I feel like it now (which should always been the way really!). :)

gmathis

Still wonderfully yummy, just needs a light touch with the timer. Bathing it for 30 minutes just wasn’t bright.

Yum! Enjoying my first ever episode of BBC’s Sherlock (love it!) while mowing down on a grain-free cinnamon bun/whoopie pie, a cup of this tea, and a new knitting project. Gotta love holiday gifts, especially those that support my dietary needs! (Recipe is from the 30 Minute Wheat Belly book, which I received for Christmas).

Preparation
Boiling 5 min, 30 sec
JustJames

be warned: sherlock is habit forming!

Veronica

Love Sherlock! That sounds like a relaxing – and delicious – day. Have fun!

Isaila

I’m about to go off to a Sherlock season 3 episode 1 viewing party! Welcome to the club :)

Anna

If you have the DVD, don’t miss the super camp/cheesy first version of the first episode. Wow. Epic overhaul.

Shmiracles

i’d like to welcome you to Sherlock too! and it goes so exceptionally well with tea!!

VariaTEA

I started watching Sherlock on the 31st and I was officially caught up last night. It is THAT addictive! I am glad you are also enjoying it :)

Sarah

DH and I love Sherlock! The BBC one is so good, it’s sad that it’s only 3 episodes a year :(

madametj

Love that show! Did you see the new one?

MissB

Well, three episodes every 18 months, if the last one proves to repeat itself. I’ve watched all three episodes of the third series now. Loved them!

At the hospital with a friend. Can’t sleep tonight, so I might as well hang out here.

My kitten didn’t make it. 11 years old. Sick maybe 18 hours. I’m gonna miss him so much.

Preparation

JustJames

oh dear…. 18 hours of sick for 11 years of living…. not to bad an exchange, though still unfair. i wish i could say something more helpful than ’i’m sorry’. i’m sure he was lovely and will miss you too. XO

OMGsrsly

Thank you, James. I kind of dread going home, but I have another kitter who needs cuddles.

JustJames

i think that’s probably a good balance? have a bit of a weep together? the beautiful thing abut pets is you can cry and leave strings of sneeze and they never judge…. it will be okay. it will take a bit, but it will. in the meantime… it will be sad. and i’m sorry for that =0(

OMGsrsly

:) It will take a while, for sure. My BFF lost both her cats this year. It’s been months and I still expect to see them when I go over.

OMGsrsly

Strings of sneeze. I read that as strings of cheese, and I really hope not.

JustJames

nope… sneeze. comes with crying. the cats just huff and clean it off because they love you. =0)

NofarS

I’m so sorry to hear that. They are such great companions, and such characters… Thinking of you, and hoping that you will feel better.

caile

I’m so sorry for the loss of your kitty.

yyz

So sorry about the loss of your Kitty. I know what you mean about expecting to see them.. When I lost my 19 year old cat I swear I saw her and even felt her around for quite sometime afterwards.

Tealizzy

So sorry about your kitty!!! Hugs!!

greenteafairy

I’m so sorry to see this.

ashmanra

I am so sorry for your loss! Hug on that other kitteh. People who love animals are good people – you gave that kitty a good life!

OMGsrsly

Thanks, everyone. I currently have a barnacle who is also large, black and fuzzy. I hope he’s gonna be ok.

MissB

Huge hugs to you and your other furry friend as well.

Veronica

I’m so sorry for your loss. Cats have a way of stealing hearts.

Lilysmom

Just seeing this and so sorry for your loss. I had my first cat, Bob-cat, for 15 years and when he died after a long illness, it was very hard. I still miss that wonderful guy. Hope you and your other kitty are doing okay.

OMGsrsly

Thank you. He’s blossoming, and also super extremely clingy. I just wish he snuggled better. :) He’s so awkward!

I don’t remember if I had the sachets of this tea before, but the loose leaf is definitely very, very different, and infinitely better. I only bought this because…..drumroll, please…..I HAVE A NEW TEA CONVERT! And I needed this fast so I bought some at Target.

That’s right! Unfortunately, my mother-in-law took a real pearler, fell flat on her face, broke her nose, gashed her forehead, and tore a hole in her arm. We have therefore been spending a great deal of time at the hospital from four to seven hours a day. My pregnant niece was there, complaining about how tired she is of water. She has cut out coffee, has gestational diabetes and doesn’t want sugary drinks, and is limiting caffeine very strictly. I rubbed my hands together with glee, pulled up the stats on a caffeine levels in teas, recommended some decaf Harney selections I thought she might like, and put together a sampling for her. She placed her first order last night!

I am going to make an effort to drink more tea because sitting in a hospital room and then running here and there for urgent errands I have not been drinking ANYTHING and hospital air is dry. I was wondering why my knees and legs were hurting when I suddenly realized it was dehydration. Tomorrow I will take most of the day “off” and spend the day with a friend, drinking good tea and eating coconut creme pie.

sherapop

Now I have to get the loose leaf. I’ve been waiting until my tin of sachets is empty—which it almost is… ;-)

ashmanra

I guess I am evil. I may have mentioned to my niece that should she wish to order loose leaf and didn’t want a whole pound, then…ahem…I can get tins and split it.

carol who

I’ve wondered whether there was much difference between the loose leaf and sachets. What about the difference between regular and decaf? I’ve just had the decaf sachets and I have loved them. Should I break down and buy some loose leaf?

ashmanra

I haven’t had the sachets of decaf but I thought the loose leaf was great! It didn’t taste all washed out to me.

TheTeaFairy

Oh my, so sorry for your mother in law, that sounds terrible. Hope she gets all the care she needs…
And woot for the new convert , good job :-)

MzPriss

Oh no! That’s just awful – I hope she gets better soon

ashmanra

She is one of the toughest people you will ever meet, and has kept going when others would have given up and given in. She has a really great attitude.

gmathis

Friends and pie. Excellent RX for what’s been ailing you :)

dragondrool

Offering to split tins isn’t evil. In my book that’s clever!

ashmanra

Hubby says I look like a drug dealer when a pound comes in that is being split because I have baggies out and a big scale, weighing the leaves and divvying up! He threatens to turn me in! LOL!
