From DAVIDsTEA

It’s not always easy to make healthy choices. Not when there are so many delicious things just waiting to be tasted. But with this fruity, berry-packed oolong, we’ve created the impossible: a super-healthy tea that also happens to taste amazing. First we took big pieces of strawberries, raspberries and currants – a.k.a. the original Super Fruits. Then we added a spicy-soothing hint of ginger root. Finally, we laced it with kombucha powder, an enzyme-packed detoxifier that in-the-know yogis have been sipping since the ‘60s. Groovy, man.

I got this one in the tea of the month sampler pack. I was hoping for a nice, fruity oolong … perhaps as a before bed tea like Long Life Oolong?

Yeah. This is not it.

It tastes woody. Like drinking steeped wood chips. No fruit until the very end of the mug after the tea itself has long since gone cold. I’m not sure I can finish my sample tin of this one…

Trying to love it, but there’s something about it. A waft of it from far away smells of strawberries. A closer sniff wreaks of ginger. Was hoping it would lose the sharp smell as it steeped, but it didn’t, and to be honest it kind of tasted like cough syrup & dirt.

This was a pleasant enough oolong. Not my favourite though.
As I said in a comment on someone else’s review, I think the kombucha powder just isn’t working for me. I looooove kombucha, but apparently not the powder version.
Also, throwing berry into the mix? ugh. What a weird combo.
I did manage to finish the cup. Lucky it was given to me no charge :D

Smells like delicious strawberries. Tastes like red cough syrup and ginger. Not for me.

Thank-you for this review. I was wondering about this one. I just placed a David’s Tea order and almost ordered this one but was on the fence. I’m glad I decided not to order it!

Plunkybug

I still want to try this one, but maybe not a lot.

Anlina

My tastebuds might just be off today? I think it’s interesting enough to try a cup and see if you like it. If you have a local DAVIDs, go pick up a 10g sample.

Plunkybug

I probably will. I think I’ll get a small sample and see. I almost got it the other day, but opted for Juicy Orange, which was a mistake.

Kittenna

Looks like this latest bunch of teas are a big fail. Which I had mostly guessed based on the ingredients. Sigh.

Plunkybug

They’ve been fails for me a lot lately too.

Anlina

Yeah, I did not love the last bunch of teas either. I didn’t feel inspired to try them all, and of the ones I did, a couple were fine but nothing I needed to have more than a sample of.

I wanted to like this tea. I tried it twice, giving it the benefit of the doubt. But, the acidic kombucha flavor reminds me of vinegar, and I certainly don’t like vinegar in my tea. The tea does have a pleasant combination of tart and sweet berries though. They compliment the oolong well. It was a mostly pleasant experience drinking it (except for that kombucha finish). Still, I’m just not a fan of this very berry concoction. It was the January 2015 Tea of Month.

Love love love this new tea of the month! So jazzed it’s on the shelf for the year, because I’m already craving it and I drink at least a cup a day every time I work.

This oolong is smooth and sweet (from the sweet blackberry leaf), with just a wee bite from the ginger. It tastes healthful and delicious at the same time, definitely worlds above Happy Kombucha. I did myself a flavour favour and brewed this up double strength with a pump of agave and soymilk: It was like drinking strawberries and cream, or strawberry icecream.

Also quite pleased with the punny name, Yogi Bear, strawberry doing yoga on the package, just poifect.

I almost got this tonight as a tea to go, but I changed my mind and went for juicy orange instead, as I was hoping for a nice citrus pick me up, and was afraid of the rose petal in this. Would you say that the rose is noticeable in this? I could not smell it, but I wonder about taste. In the end, there was something funny that tasted like licorice in the juicy orange and I was not fond of it, but it smelled amazing.

Daisy Chubb

I can’t taste the rose in this one at all! I know exactly what you are talking about with the licorice sweetness of Juicy Orange though – I attribute it to the blackberry leaves as they can add quite a bit of sweetness at times (not a huge fan of Juicy Orange so far, can you tell? lol)

Indigobloom

I had a cup of this one last week. It was interesting! Something about the berry gave it a funny twist, I couldn’t figure out what exactly

Plunkybug

I am gonna try this soon, but not sure when I can…hopefully this week.

Daisy Chubb

I would blame the kombucha powder! Basically being a powdered fungus, probably adds some .. tang so to speak lol

Indigobloom

Yeah I was thinking it was a combination of the berry and kombucha. The two together just didn’t seem to work for me

Four for you, David’s, you go David’s. Knocking it out of the park with these oolong blends. I mean seriously. Oolong blends tend to run in a few generic lanes: lemon, orange, ginseng, honey, maybe some of the mellower fruits like pomegranate and fig. But then Bubbie’s really blew it up with that sweet blend more like what you would find in a green.

And then Yogi Berry. It was love at first sniff. Totally juicy, very refreshing, just a little bit of earthiness from the oolong. Beautiful tea. Beautiful. Definitely going to be stocking up on this one, and sneaking some out of the house to join my stash of tea at work.

This is almost disturbingly tasty. I totally get the bubblegum, but the strawberry really shines through to me. The ginger is nice, a background hint and not overwhelming like it can be. We have 100 g in rewards coming our way and I know exactly where to spend them. This is a delicious oolong, light and fruity and I can’t wait to try the cold steeped leaves tomorrow!

Anlina

Oh man, I was going to skip all the newer DT teas but your reviews are making me reconsider.

Daddyselephant

Mwahahaha my evil plan is working. I had it coldbrewed today and it was absolutely lovely, though oddly enough, I think I prefer it hot. I usually prefer the coldbrew, but hot took this tea to another level.

So I decided to redeem one of my free 50g bags of tea with this a. because the name is just too cute and b. its not something I would buy for myself. I’m glad I did! I’m not an oolong drinker, honestly I believe this is one of my first oolong teas so I’m pleased with how it turned out! Plus it was free!

The smell is super super strong, so be warned! Also the leaves expand like crazy! Oh my gosh! Anyways, I steeped this for 4 minutes and it was a nice mix of strawberry and ginger. I didn’t really get the bubble gum taste everyone is talking about, however I am a fan of sweets so I wouldn’t have minded if I did :p

Fun fact: After I purchased this and went next door to the lush store, the lush employee was a fan of DT and needed to know what I purchased. She was excited I was going to try the Yogi Berry and told me that’s what was in her mug behind the till and its amazing iced. Cant wait to try this iced once the weather warms up!

Smells like bubblegum. Tastes like bubblegum. Might be bubblegum. Good thing I got it for free because this got tossed out. It just isn’t for me.

Kittenna

Disappointing.
