From DAVIDsTEA

Ginseng for joy
This ginseng-coated tea looks more like moss-covered pebbles than tea leaves. And it tastes just as wonderfully weird as it looks: rich and crisp with a hint of shea butter and a sweet, lingering ginseng flavour.

Well, I steeped it too long, so it came out a bit bitter. The ginseng sweetness showed through, and it’s a weird sweetness in the back of my throat… not wholly unpleasant, but very weird. I don’t know if I’d buy a whole tin of this, but it’s not horrid.

The second steep, is less weird. I mean, I can still taste the ginseng, but now it’s better with the oolong.

Love this tea – afternotes are sweet and linger on your tastebuds long after your last sip. Delicious!

I took a sip and tossed the rest down the drain. Not my cup of tea at all.

This one was weird! I can’t decide weither I like it or not. What I can say, however, is that I liked the second steep better than the first one. I liked the taste of the straight oolong, but soon I became overwhelmed by the buttery sweetness of ginseng. It lasted very long after swallowing and it kind of weirded me out a bit. The second steep was less sweet and I could taste more of the straight oolong, which was great.

I drank 16ounces of this with my bbq brisket omelet I made this morning. I find that the leaf used for this this is a higher quality than some other ginseng oolongs I’ve seen/tasted, but at the same time after about 6ounces of this (possibly all ginseng teas) this becomes quite dry and harsh on the throat. I finished the cup because it had a nice taste, but maybe ginseng is meant for smaller quantities. Either way it paired nice with my omelet somehow.

Mmm! The omelet sounds yummy!

I think I got ginseng confused with ginger, because I remember this tea tasting not at all like I was expecting it to, LOL. And that’s probably tainting my rating of it, but so be it. Not terrible, but there are definitely other oolongs I will reach for before I pick this one.

I feel the beginnings of the ickies coming on – not a full-fledged icky. We can still get ahead of this. But this called for something warm and soothing and fortified. And that I had in my small stash of tea at work.

I’ve never actually tried David’s ginseng oolong before – which is odd considering that I enjoy both ginseng and oolongs. This did not disappoint. While it wasn’t the best straight oolong I’ve ever had, it was still creamy and buttery on the first steep, with that medicinal tingle of ginseng that I wanted. Second steep – with crappy work kettle – was a lot stronger and more grassy, with a bit of bitterness towards the end. All in all, I wouldn’t stock up on this because we have so many straight oolongs, but it was definitely a satisfying cuppa.

Really, I just love this stuff. Such a unique flavor, ESPECIALLY tasty when enjoyed iced, and a little goes a long way. This and Verdant Tea’s Golden Fleece (drool) are my top 2 favorite teas to enjoy at work.

One of the strangest and tastiest teas in my cupboard. Very earthy at first with a delicious sweet after taste that lingers. So wonderful when sick or any time for that matter!!

I made it! Last of the backlog! 21 tasting notes in one evening…

This is the one I picked up today on my date, and of course I had to try it. I waited until after Tyrell had left though so I could do a more focused/proper tasting of it. No distractions ;)

I decided on this almost solely because of Gwyn’s recommendation today in store; I’ve been interested in it for a while because of how freaking cool it looks but I’ve been drastically flip flopping on getting some and likely would not have made up my mind without her assurance. She seems to definitely know her oolong.

I’ll definitely hold onto the leaf and do another steep tomorrow (it’s late now) because she said this is best during the second or third steep so I’m gonna push myself and resteep even though I typically do not and I thought this was really good! It had a super natural almost woody taste to it and was surprisingly sweet and sugary in a very gentle way in the tail of the sip and aftertaste. And the oolong was beautiful.

I don’t know if I’ve ever had Ginseng in anything before (maybe Arizona Iced Tea, but that stuff is pretty sweetened) so not sure what I’m familiar with to compare this one to; but I really quite liked it. I’m actually very excited for the resteeps, and I have one more cup worth of unused leaf too so that’s also very exciting! If this stays consistently good I see more of it in my future.

My rating is conservative for now until I’ve had the resteeps, but I expect I’ll be increasing it a ways. Good pick, Gwyn!
