Chocolate Cake

I think I expect a bit too much from my chocolate/dessert flavored teas. :/

Smell: Dry, in the bag. This smelled….cakey, chocolately (sort-of) and a weird, artificial something. Sugary maybe, but like, overly so. It wasn’t bad, I enjoyed the scent, but it had something weird to it. Steeping I smelled cocoa.

Taste: Hmm. See, I really want to be like WOW! But…no. Sorry. Now, it wasn’t horrible but…ah, just read on.

So this tea wasn’t a major chocolate anything. I could taste chocolate, and the candy bits (maybe that was the weird sugary flavor/scent?) and this was after two spoonfuls of regular white sugar (trying to conserve the raw sugar, it’s expensive) and letting it cool. It just tasted way too sweet to me, and it wasn’t a chocolate sweet. It was just sweet, sweet. And it was yummy enough to enjoy, I guess, but I think I either did something wrong or just expect too much of something labeled “chocolate cake.” But I mean, shouldn’t it taste like that if that’s what it says? I’m going to try again. And add some chocolate chips. Oh, cream made it good, more cakey to me. Anybody else had success with this tea after some experimenting? I need some tips!

I used 2 tsps of this. I feel like I’m getting the flu – all chilled :( So I figured some chocolate tea therapy was in order!
This smells so delicious – like a cup of brownies. The liquid is kind of cloudy like cider.
The chocolate flavor was decent but not as present as I would have liked.

I’ve had this the past two mornings. It’s utterly drinkable, but that’s about it. I find it quite bland. I don’t like the sensation stevia gives me in tea, which is odd as I use stevia plenty in food and have come to like it. I’m also a bit biased against carob. I don’t really mind carob by its own merits, but I don’t like it when it masquerades as chocolate. It doesn’t work as chocolate for me. Too bitter.

I also don’t like the copious amounts of carob powder that end up in the bottom of my cup. I’ve ended up leaving about 1/5th of both cups as it makes it too gritty and bitter.

Anyway, not awful but nothing to make me want to finish what I have let alone buy more. I will say it smells awesome, though! I get chocolate cake from the scent, and muddy, watery carob from the taste.

CHOCOLATE. It really reminded me of the rest of David’s chocolate teas, especially the chocolate chili chai. Need to play with the brewing to draw out some of the creaminess, but this is the best of their chocolate teas I’ve had.

This tea was with breakfast. It smelled amazing in the bag!!!! And steeping… Oh man! I could hardly wait for it to steep. I guess I had too much faith in this tea. It’s not as strong and creamy as I hoped it would be. But!!! It was good! You can feel the cakeyness on your tongue, you can taste the creaminess of the chocolate. I oomphed it up a little with some milk and sugar and there is that dessert tea taste I love so much. I’m debating on whether to keep this one or pass it along. It’s like I can almost taste the frosting on this decidable chocolate cake. Hmmmm decisions, decisions.

I have had this before multiple times and to me it tastes as close to chocolate cake as one can get in a tea. However today I made it in a teapot for the first time and I think I either understeeped it or did not use enough leaves because it came out tasting mostly like weak black tea with a chocolate aftertaste.

I think I may have had this as a tea to go once, when it first came out, but I couldn’t remember (and I don’t seem to have a tasting note for this) so I asked ShayneBear for a sample of this, with the other cake teas.

Yeah, it’s pretty artificial, but it is pretty darn tasty.

This one was . . . mediocre to me. I’m going to set that up to the fact that I’m not a big fan of chocolate cake, though. To me it tastes fake, not like true chocolate flavour, and the tea follows suit. It wasn’t bad, but I’d take the ice cream cake over this one any day.

So I loved the smell of this in the bag. Chocolaty goodness.
Unfortunately I’m very much unimpressed with how it brewed. It tastes like weak chocolaty water and not even sugar helped it any. I would try to add more leaf next time I brewed it, but I really don’t want to even brew it again. It left my ingenuitea all greasy and clogged when I cleaned the used leaves out. Ugh.

I am totally stealing this term and idea from PatchworkSheep! I’m making a franken-tea!

It’s half Chocolate cake and half salted caramel. I’m actually really enjoying it! It’s chocolate-y and slightly caramel and I’m even picking up on the salted part. I’m liking all the mixtures. It’s pretty tastey. I’d highly recommend it to anyone. Very yummy. mmmmm chocolate-y goodness. It’s a great option for anyone craving a hot chocolate too! I added some milk and it made it creamy and delicious.
