Tangerine Dream (Organic)

I got a sample of this back n March and am finally giving it a go. I am steeping it up in my perfect tea mug for around 3/4 minutes-ish. I love citrus teas BUT find they are usually not done well, so I am eternally on the search for a good one. I am not a fan of green teas in general but find they do work well for citrus, so I hope I don’t regret this decision.

The dry aroma is very sharp, like the zest of a clementine, tangerine or other sweet orange-like fruit. The steeped liquor is much more muted, with more of a green tea aroma than anything else. by that, i mean sweet hay or grass. Fields after the rain, that sort of thing. : )

In terms of taste, the citrus is not very forward. It is nicely disguised in the background of the green tea and is actually really pleasant. I would like a bit more citrus, but this really works. Especially to the idea of a tangerine tea, since there is the sweetness from the green. Definitely suitable but not a re-buy.

PS – The beau is now the fiancee. After eight years, we’re now “official.” I’m so excited! Now to plan and pay for (what we hope to be) a small intimate country wedding. We shall see..

Good Lord LEMONGRASS!
First I dislike – no I despise lemongrass.
Second THERE IS SO MUCH IN HERE!
In all fairness there IS something yummy to this – I am letting it get cold in the fridge now to see what I think when its cold. I got a sample from someone I wish I remembered who but thank you to whoever sent it my way.
Withholding rating for now.
ETA: Still don’t like it – although it IS better cold. Its not for me AT ALL. Not rating based on the fact that the only reason I don’t like it is the lemongrass. That does not mean it is a bad blend.

I wasn’t expecting much from this tea, to be honest, because it didn’t sound like anything special, but I was hoping it would make a refreshing cold brew.

The dry leaf smells predominately of orange peel, and the lemongrass is on the light side, at least to me.

Hot, it’s grassy and the citrus is by far lighter than what I was expecting. A hint of bitter orange but that’s it. Where’s the lemongrass? I love that stuff.

Cold brew, did it ever get bitter. Huh. The lemongrass is louder here but the vegetal note from the base is still taking over the whole show.

Glad I didn’t get much.

Light green tea and a strong, natural tangerine flavor. Reminds me a bubble tea, but not as artificial or sugary.

I crave citrus when I’m sick, so this makes me happy today. Let’s hope I stay happy as we are moving the whole office back to our renovated office. People tend to panic in situations like this. I don’t panic if I have my towel. :-)

This is decent as a citrus-y tea, but definitely better iced than hot! The hot version is heavy on the citrus taste but it doesn’t have much depth. The iced variety somehow allows more citrus flavors to mingle on the palate, and has a pleasant and sweet aftertaste. The green tea base is simple and fresh – a nice complement to the citrus taste.

This is okay, as usual it’s one of those teas where you can tell it’s on the brink of going bitter, yet you can hardly taste the tea itself.

I steeped it for two minutes and then poured it over ice. It has a decent tangerine flavor; it tastes rather like a legitimate tangerine, although I cannot remember the last time I had one. I was expecting it to be kind of bitter because it smells just like peels before it steeps, but I guess the stevia helps that out.

Like I said, it could really use a boost in the actual green tea department. I’m not sure I like the almost genmaicha-like toastiness with a tangerine flavor. In fact, I think that might be why I think it tastes almost like it would go bitter if it steeped 15 seconds more. I’d like a sweeter green base to boost a juicy flavor out of the citrus, since if I eat orange citrus fruits, it’s because I want that aspect of it!

Sipdown! 139/365!

Grabbed a random DT that was sipdown-ready. I did not remember that this was presweetened, ech. It’s not too terrible, but I’m not a big fan. I’m mostly tasting stevia, with a bit of tangerine. And lemongrass. Not sad it’s gone, I don’t like this lingering sweetness stevia has.

Dry Leaf Nose: Intense tangerine with a slight toasty note in the finish.

Liquor: Clear, golden-green liquor with tangerine and delicious green tea aromas.

Flavour: This tea is the perfect balance of citrus and green tea and citrus, with an added toasty note.

My friend brewed me a cup of this to drink while we knitted tonight. Aside from being beyond uninspired by my knitting project (which never happens to me, I love knitting!) the tea was delightful. Vegetal green balanced by a bit of citrus notes. It was very much a green tea, but the fruit flavour was present enough to give it a bit of interest for me. My friend is not a finicky with water temperature as I have become, so I was worried it might get bitter, but it was totally alright! However, I did trade her for a bit to take home, so I can’t wait to see how it performs under more regulated steeping conditions. I think I have found my classroom tea for tomorrow! And given that the kids and I are still tracking to school in subarctic temperatures, I think sticking with the tropical theme is a great plan.

Not bad, though it feels like one of a million incarnations of the same tea. Definitely not exciting. That said, it is light and fresh and citrusy, so it’s pleasant. The stevia thankfully doesn’t bother me in this one.
