Checkmate

This is just what it claims to be. Chocolate and coconut that’s what it is. This isn’t that bad, it’s actually better than I expected it to be. It’s a little strange with both the white and black base. Steeped about 85 C and that seemed to work.
All and all this is a decent chocolate tea, not my favorite but pretty good.

Courtney sent me a sample of this forever ago, it seems, and I totally forgot about it. I pulled it out the other day and decided to give it a shot this afternoon.

I don’t know why I waited so long! It’s so yummy. I don’t get chocolate like everyone else seems to, to me, this tastes like caramel or toffee or something equally sweet and delicious. I very much enjoyed this cup, and I am going to prepare a second infusion right now.

So a friend gave me this sample… and the cran-pear! but I was pretty sure this wouldn’t do much to wow me, and I was right. Now, I don’t really like white chocolate (which this reminds me of) and coconut shavings are bad for me so this review is a bit biased!
Still, it was just ok. I could kinda taste the white, but not enough to make me swoon. I prefer the tea-ness to come out just a bit more. I gave the rest of the sample away to another friend…

When I heard about a blend of White and Black tea I was really not sure about this mix…
But i’ve wanted so much to try this one.

I was much pleased by this one! DAMN.
It’s fully satisfying because I can catch all the White and Black tea flavor.
It’s a little creamy, but not too much creamy like Vanilla Oolong or Buttered rum.
Chocolate you say? Yes, there’s a little of it, but not the ugly steeped taste, the sweet
light flavor of cocoa here. :)

Yep, tried steeping it at a lower temp than recommended again and it works so much better.
Now this tea tastes smooth and I am definitely getting the hot chocolate notes in it, not a full on hot chocolate but a light, nice, smooth one!

Tried this one awhile back and just now getting a note down.

I find myself comparing this with Della Terra’s White Chocolate Coconut Cream. Probably because both are coconut & chocolate predominately.

Dry, this tea smells lightly of sweet coconut. I find the chocolate a little less present in this than the Della version. It’s funny to me that the chocolate in the Della version is supposed to be white but I find it much like the chocolate present in this tea. The coconut comes through more and more as this blend cools and at the end of each sip. I find this tea a little richer in flavor, but not necessarily better than Della as I’m getting something I don’t recognize.. could be the chamomile since I’ve not had many teas with it yet.

I think I’m intrigued by Della’s version because it’s got black, white and green teas (which I imagined I could pick out)for a base, as this one is black and white. Although I do like the large pieces of coconut in this blend.

The jury is still out on which I prefer of these two blends. I might have to do a side by side comparison.

Dry Leaf Nose: Chocolate coconut mocha.

Liquor: Medium golden clear with a definite chocolate coconut aroma and hints of mocha.

Flavour: A sweet chocolate-coconut flavour with a mocha background, brought to us through a combination of white Bai Mudan tea and open China black tea, plus the coconut. The effect is a rich and satisfying cup.

This was another one of my samples from Bonnie, and I quite enjoyed it. I added a little sweetener and it was smooth and creamy, with a mellow coconut flavor and a hint of savory spices. Good stuff.

I needed to wind down after work today so I chose this little number. I’m glad I did because drinking this today…I discovered new flavours :D Maybe it was how I had the water today or what dry tea scooped into my teaspoon exactly, but I’m finally getting that chocolate sensation that’s described, yay!! It’s very light in the liqueur, but that’s good since there’s not actually chocolate in this blend. Verses something like Love Tea #7 where I expect it to be heavy on the chocolate since it’s actually in it. Yeah, this is a great tea if you want a real treat but don’t want one of DT’s more, er….“gimmicky” teas? Not that it’s a bad thing…but Checkmate feels more natural yet still fun c:

Mmmm so I revoke my earlier comment about this not being a permanent fixture in my cupboard because its completely and utterly grown on me. I’m on the second steep of my batch today and the flavour hasn’t yet waned although there is definitely an underlying tartness to it that went away with a little bit of agave. Lots and lots of coconut in both the first and second steep – just yum!
