From DAVIDsTEA

Go wild.

Head for the Ju Ju Jungle, made with a guayusa herb and fruit blend that’ll make you feel like swinging from the vines and hanging from the trees. No wonder. Guayusa contains a combo of the natural stimulants also found in green tea and dark chocolate. People claim it protects you against snake bites, gives you courage, and helps you spiritually connect to nature. With its smooth flavour and natural buzz, we’ll just say it makes for a deliciously stimulating cup of tea.

Ingredients: Fair Trade Certified Guayusa (Ecuador), papaya, peach, artificial and natural flavouring*.

What a perfect day for iced (as is pretty much every other day of the year). And what is even more perfect is that David’s tea has a tea of the day that I haven’t tried yet!

Jungle Ju Ju is a mate tea but it has more of a black black tea or oolong taste to it. there also seems to be a slight hint of lemon, and a very slight sweet note in the background. It mostly tastes like a typical/plain iced tea; not very fruity or tropical. It’s good but nothing out of the ordinary.

Had the last of a small bag of this today. I remember it being fruitier than what it tasted like today, it might have lost some flavour over time. I found I could only taste the Guayusa, which is fine. It’s such a unique flavour, very herb like, I think I taste something similar to basil. I also find that it has an effervescent quality to it, in the smell and the taste. I am really looking forward to trying some Butiki guayusas.

oh no! I better drink my stash of this faster if the flavor is fading!

Could just be me. I split what was left with my coworker and she found it really fruity and sweet. I didn’t find it sweet at all and no fruit. I might have over steeped or something. Too much leaf maybe, there was a little too much in the bag but not enough to save for later so I just dumped it all in.

Jungle Ju Ju is a pretty unique tea of David’s. It is one of their only herbal teas with caffeine, in fact it’s a stimulant, something you’d expect out a maté tea, not a herbal. It’s also not something I’ll be drinking casually, Jungle Ju Ju will be kept for special occasions (Primarily late at night when I should be asleep, but I need a boost for whatever reason.)

Right away you’ll notice that before steeping, Jungle Ju Ju has a very distinct smell. It’s almost overwhelming, the guyausa coming across very strongly, with hints of peach and papaya too. Unfortunately this smell changes after steeping into something a bit unpleasant, not a deal breaker, but it would have been nice if Jungle Ju Ju preserved it’s aroma through steeping.

Jungle Ju Ju has a pretty sweet taste to it, you can definitely taste the peach and papaya. The guayusa balances it the sweetness out. I’m not a huge fan of peach and papaya, so overall I can’t love Jungle Ju Ju like many people seem to do, but it’s easy to recommend if you’re a fan of fruity teas, and need lots of caffeine to start your day.

There’s a fruity sweetness to the dry leaf, most of which I’m assuming is the added flavouring. It smells pretty good.

Hot, I tasted quite a bit of the grassy guayusa. Not a bad taste, but not one that had me clamoring for more. I got a bit of sweetness, but not a lot of fruit taste.

Cold (it took me all day to drink it), the flavours come out a bit more. I smell and taste a delicate hint of peach along with the guayusa. Not bad, but still not fabulous.

One of the worst teas I’ve ever tasted. I love a lot of different teas and I love Davids, but I don’t know what happened here. They were nice enough to replace this one out – thank goodness.

So once again I decided to give teas a try and get away from coffee. So during my lunch break I stopped by Davids teas to buy some teas. I was half awake and asked for something that would give me a caffeine boast. Well they recommended Jungle Ju Ju. This tea has an awesome fruity taste and although I had it hot I am sure it would be good cold. As for the energy burst – well lets just say this I could feel it surging through my veins. I highly recommend this tea.

Jungle Ju Ju is an herbal tea, so there’s no caffeine but the natural stimulants that Guayusa provides definetly give me a bit of a jump! This makes a delicious iced tea (which I’m on a huge kick for right now, even though it’s fast approaching winter). I find that you can’t really over-steep this one which is really nice because I never hear my tea timer. David’s instructions are to steep at boiling temp’s but I usually wait a few minutes, mostly because that’s just too hot for my poor mouth and I can never wait long to start drinking my tea. I definitely associate this tea with a fruity/peachy taste.
