From Runa

Runa’s refreshing mint blend combines the smooth taste and energizing power of guayusa, with a crisp and rejuvenating organic peppermint. We call it “Delicioso.”

Guayusa (botanical name Ilex guayusa) is a caffeinated rainforest holly tree that grows almost exclusively in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Revered as a balanced stimulant and focal point of indigenous cultural traditions, guayusa has been consumed for thousands of years by the indigenous Kichwa, Shuar, and Achuar nationalities that inhabit the Ecuadorian Amazon.

A truly balanced stimulant with a naturally sweet taste, guayusa not only contains caffeine to awaken the mind, but also is rich in vitamins and amino acids to fortify the body. Its combined effect is one of sustained energy, mental clarity, and what the indigenous Kichwa people call “mental strength and courage.” Indigenous hunters drink guayusa to sharpen their instincts and call it the “Night Watchman” because it helps them stay alert and awake all night. With these unique properties, our Runa beverages offer the energy of coffee without the jitters or crash, and the clarity and simplicity of tea without the bitterness.

I’m having this Guayusa blend again, I need to wake up because I’m up way too early and I can’t go back to bed because there’s too much to do today. So I need some fuel!

The mint seems a bit more crisp and fresh tasting today. Perhaps it’s because I’m so sleepy and I’m looking for anything to revitalize and the mint seems particularly zesty. Whatever the reason, it is certainly a welcome flavor. The Guayusa is there too, obviously, but I seem to be tasting it less at the moment. Let’s hope that the caffeinated effects are not affected.

My full-length review of this tea should be publishing in just a few days.

This was a gift…from me to my husband, but extreme fatigue had me reaching for it in desperation today. Delicious earthy flavor, mild, slightly sweet; the mint is fresh tasting. I added a squeeze of lemon, and a few drops of NuNaturals stevia (for some reason, I love when mint teas are just a little sweet and lemony.) Really tasty! And, I got no jittery, unpleasant feeling, the way I do from coffee. Hmmm, might be reaching into my husband’s guayusa again soon!

Alphakitty

I adore guayusa, it’s so refreshing and the caffeine affects me quite differently than coffee.

Serenity

Alphakitty: You are so right: hours later and NO crash, unlike my memories of coffee, and even black tea at times. I’m wondering how guayusa tastes as a chai masala…

Autistic Goblin

if you want a lemony guayusa you should try Butiki Tea’s Good Morning Sunshine :D

Alphakitty

I second Butiki for guayusa! They sell a pure one as well that you could mix up your own chai blend. Maybe with Verdant’s chai spices… now I want to place more tea orders! ^^;

Serenity

Thank you, Helena and Alphakitty! Perfectly lovely suggestions for my wish list!

I was in Whole foods the other day and they carry this so I thought I would give it a try. This is my first experience with Guayusa. I was a little bit pensive because straight Mate is a taste that I would say is aquired, but I’ll try just about anything once. My first thoughts are a little vegetal like green beans. The mint is very good. I could drink this daily. Of course now I want to educate myself on Guayusa, and try some others. This is great though!

One of my fave guayusas so far! NICE! The minty-goodness is strong enough to coat that green pea type guayusa taste. Delightful!

A very potent blend. Almost overwhelmingly minty. Shade Tree has never loved smells and perfumy type things. This does not cross that line though, but when I drink this from now on I blend a half and half blend with Traditional and Peppermint, then the Peppermint is cut down a bit and it is more mild for my pallet. I have never been huge on mint tastes, but this is a nice because it only has 2 ingredients. I think that is another thing I like about Runa, straight to the point and doesn’t hide the ingredient that is reps. Many tea companies in the game should learn that if you are going to rep on product don’t hide it under ingredients.

Rainforest Mint Guayusa has a crisp light and refreshing flavor, not bad for a desert type tea.

this is a wonderful minty way to wake yourself up! I’m a huge fan of peppermint and i found it very difficult to find a mint mate’. I was very upset about it until i found Guayusa.
I find this gives me a lovely, uplifted buzz in the morning, and tastes very clean and refreshing.

I love this tea! It tastes great, plus the company is promoting sustainable development and fair trade in Ecuador. Anyone who likes Mate will like Guayusa!
