Looking for some Inca gold? Try Cocomama’s tea. She was the Incan goddess of pleasure and health, and would have loved this sensual spring blend of lime, coconut, gotu kola and organic black tea. The tea leaves come from Bolivia, part of her vast empire, where a new initiative is helping some of Latin America’s poorest farmers plant tea instead of coca. Try it; it’s satisfying on so many levels.
DavidsTea is a Canadian specialty tea and tea accessory retailer based in Montreal, Quebec. It is the largest Canadian-based specialty tea boutique in the country, with its first store having opened in 2008.
I initially didn’t think that I’d be able to take this tea seriously just because this name (which was all but immediately shot down by my friends) – but I love Buttered Rum and I love lime, so this seemed fairly natural for me to want to try.
Similar to Fantasy Island – which doesn’t surprise me, considering they’re fairly similar teas – this gets better the longer it’s steeped. Unlike the Fantasy Island, this gets somehow both sickly sweet and quite bitter without warning – one sip was perfectly timed, the next was oversteeped.
Overall, it’s good, especially if you’re a fan of their Lime Bang. I’d recommend giving this a try if you like both coconut and lime, since the two flavours mingle quite well with one another around the black tea and the kola nut. I can’t help but to compare it to Fantasy Island, though, and this just pales in comparison for me.
I was happy to get a sample tin of this one, because I wouldn’t have bought it without smelling or trying it first.
You can see lots of lime peel and coconut shreds, plus it smells intensely sweet and limey, dry. I steeped the whole sample (1 and 1/4 davids perfect teaspoon-ful) for 6 minutes, and the lime smell got mellower, but it still very present. I took a sip, and was surprised. It tasted like lime with black tea, and kind of bitter (I steeped it for the longest time suggested, and used less water since I’ll be adding icecubes to cool it down).
It was really decent though! Love how the black tea was present almost as much as the lime. (No coconut yet though…)
It definitely needed sugar though, so I added almost 2 tsps! (I like my iced tea much sweeter than if it was hot.)
Anyways let it cool down completely in the freezer for a bit, and now it tastes quite nice. Just like a good iced tea spiked with lime. Definitely not much coconut though, if any.
If you enjoy lime in your drinks, this is a tea for you. I don’t always care for it, but have to admit that this is another job pretty well done from Davids tea!
This was one of my DT samples. It was ok. Very limey. I could not taste the coconut at all. It made me sad that it was so one dimensional… kindof like a limeade, only hot.
I think I’ll try the rest of the sample iced.
Well, I have nothing against this tea, but I simply do not love it. I had such high hopes!
Having this iced right now. I think I should have added a splash of lemon juice to it but it is still pretty good. And it is so hot here that this is really good and satisfying. The lime isn’t quite strong enough but it may be a little overpowered by the coconut. Still really good. So glad I decided to try this iced.
Just had this the other day when I happened to pop in to the store. I got to say, if there was a competition between berries and citrus, citrus would always win in my world. So, there’s no surprise here that the lime in this lovely concoction won me over, not only with its delicious scent, but the subtly tangy taste it adds as well.
And then they added coconut. Well, that’s it right there. I’m sold. Lovely tea, I could sip on cup after cup after cup…after cup :)
I bought this tea because I liked how good it smelled in the tin. This is the 4th time I’ve tried this tea at home and I just don’t care for it. The lime is nice in first sip or two, but then it wears down on me. Guess I am just not a fan of limes. :/
OMG where do I start? I have been searching for a LIME tea for ages now and poked my head into DAVIDsTEA and low and behold they have Cocomama Lime and Lime Bang. I smelled the Cocomama Lime and was hooked immediately! Great coconut taste without overpowering and not too sweet mixed with the tangy lime and the gotu cola just rounds it off. This IS my NEW tea thank you SO much DAVIDsTEA for carrying not one but multiple versions of lime. I promise to try Lime Bang soon!
One fresh sampler of the Spring Collection in my teapot, amazing? Well, it’s good but it’s not amazing. The smell is amazing! But, the taste just… Taste like any other lime-tea i’ve tasted. I’ve didn’t even taste any little subtile aftertaste to make a difference with other lime-tea.
Overall, the quality of taste is great. If you want a daily lime tea and you love black tea, buy it. If you like green tea more than black tea, buy “Lime-Bang” which is way more impressive.
I received this as a sample awhile ago and finally got around to using it this morning. I initially was put off by the idea of coconut as I’m not a fan but decided to risk it as I’m just bored with what is in my cupboard. I steeped it for quite a long time (forgot I had made it actually) and found myself enjoying the subtle lime flavour. I couldn’t detect the coconut at all which is probably for the better.
I don’t think I would shell out money for this but if I had another sample I wouldn’t be disappointed. I do love me some citrus teas.
I think you’ve described very well this tea, the taste doesn’t surprise or impress because it’s a little too much regular.
