From DAVIDsTEA

This’ll do it

Combining pu’erh and ginger is like creating an arsenal. These are two of Chinese medicine’s best weapons. Pu’erh is said to aid digestion, cleanse the blood and help with weight loss. Ginger is supposed to improve circulation, help with digestion and counteract nausea, colds and sore throats. This tea also has a hint of orange, which combines perfectly with its zesty earthiness.

Ingredients: Organic: pu’erh tea from Yunnan Province in China, ginger and orange peel.

I got this purely for medicinal purposes…it tastes pretty good considering. I am having this straight without milk, but sweetened with some organic cane sugar. It is very very very gingery, but then you sorta expect a tea like this to be gingery, right? I think the ginger is a nice compliment to the pu erh base, as both are very earthy flavours. There is that hint of orange which is alright, though I don’t tend to like orange peel much in tea generally.

I think this is worth having on hand for the upset tummy, stuffy head, feeling miserable in general kind of times. I don’t know if I would have it aside from those instances, because I have so many other teas to drink other times.

In a way, this tea is kind of refreshing and clean. It’s a nice change from some of the more complicated teas like Banana Dream Pie and Fireside S’Mores tea. It’s nice to have simplicity every now and again. :)

First cup of the day. I have never had a Pu’erh tea before so I was excited to try it. Thanks Awkward Soul for sending me this sample.

I did notice a odd salty smell from the dry leaf and liquor, but the ginger was the most prevalent. The liquor it made was a deep dark velvety red….yumm. It tastes very earthy and smooth with a nice and not over powering flavor of zingy ginger. It’s like black tea, but without the sharpness and astringency it can have. I defiantly must try some other pu’erh in the future.

P.S. I know i should have done a blanch, but I didn’t cause I didn’t think it was needed…

It did not brew inky black despite only doing one steep, but it was a short four minutes (the steeping instructions gave you a range of four to six).

First sip is a good ginger. Still pretty hot, though. I’m getting pu’erh in the smell, though.

I only did four minutes, so I can understand why this is rather soft. I like it, though. The pu’erh isn’t too strong, but there, and I like the spicy ginger.

Light ginger taste. The earthiness of the pu’erh is able to come through and balances nicely with the ginger. Spiciness on the end of the sip.

I don’t mind how it tastes when I plug my nose, but oh man the fishy. I expect a goldfish to jump out at me!

Don’t think I’ll be rating this one since I can’t get past the fishness. I do sense ginger but . . . yeah. This one isn’t for me.

Mmmmm. I had this sweetened with honey. Unfortunately I put ice in it to cool it down but it cooled it off too much. I would have enjoyed it a lot more if it had been the right temperature, but still, how do I not own this already?

I’m so glad that I bought this tea for my Boy friend and not for myself because.. well… I HATE it…:S!

It reminds me of fish oil.. The smell, the taste, the color everything, and I hate fish oil with all my heart!!!

On the other side, my boyfriend really like it, he’s able the taste the ginger and the pu-erh and think I’m crazy with my fish oil thing (hehe so maybe it’s just me).

Because of this I won’t rate this tea, maybe it’s just really not my thing.

Day 101 of my 101 days of DAVIDsTEA challenge!!!!

Wow! 101 days of tea. Hard to believe, it went by fast. :)

I had a large supper, so this was a lovely post-meal drink. I had it over three steeps, with 1.5tsp in my tea ball, brewed for around 5 minutes each time, though slightly longer for each subsequent steep.

The first steep was quite strong — not unpleasantly so, though. The tea was murky and thick, the ginger was the predominant flavour, and there was a nice sweet, but grounded note to it. Ginger also was the strongest note with the second steep, but the weaker third steep let the pu-erh come through more.

I really enjoyed this — It was perfect for my needs. I’m going to continue enjoying the rest of the amount I have of this for sure!

Not knowing what Pu Erh actually was, I decided to try this tea on recommendation.

I’ve always thought that I liked Chai (I actually don’t. I have no idea why I thought that), so I thought a ginger tea would likely be up my alley as well, cause it’d have the same spiciness.

Plain, this tea is a bit tasteless, but has a nice kick when you swallow. Made as a latte, this tea is wonderful! Super flavorful and spicy. I plan on buying more at a later time so that I can make plenty more lattes.

I imagine it will be beautifully paired with an Assam or a traditional Chai, but I have yet to experiment.
