This spicy tea is just lovely! I got it from my sister (!!) when it was being discontinued (tears were shed!) but then it came back!! But because of its rarity back then, I drink this tea quite sparingly, and generally only for special occasions! Which is ironic, because now it’s quite readily available… (And haven’t they changed the old sparkly dragees to little sparkly stars? Adorable; DAVIDs TEA always thinks of the aesthetics, which I adore.)
The dragees add a cute, very “David’s” element to the tea, and when you steep it, look into your cup, you’ll find a gentle shimmer glimmering from the surface of your cuppa! I always love special little details like this, despite the dragees/sparkles seemingly doing nothing to the flavour.
This is such a great blend for cold winter nights leading into Christmas. I never was a fan of cloves growing up, but once I started drinking Glitter & Gold, I found myself developing a deeper appreciation for them that I now seek out in my holiday tea blends.
I never knew until recently that people make dried oranges (or other citrus fruits?) with cloves in them, and I’ve never personally made them, but if I did, I wonder if I would find myself surrounded by Glitter & Gold flavours – there is that very soft hint of citrus in this tea that doesn’t really seem to take centre-stage, but rather accents the more earthy flavours of the black tea and cloves. It’s a light accent that helps those flavours shine more brightly.
Did I mention the sparkles? I love the sparkles. Never stop sparkling, DT.
Perhaps the only downside to this tea (which is a personal preference issue) is that adding milk substantially detracts from your ability to see those lovely sparkles. I guess you have to pick your battles.
