From Butiki Teas

Our Butterscotch & Hazelnut Mocha Candies tea uses our White Rhino tea. The White Rhino base compliments and melds seamlessly with the butterscotch, hazelnut, and mocha flavors. Butterscotch is the star of this tea but the mocha and hazelnut flavors peek through and add complexity. We highly recommend adding a touch of brown crystal sugar for a rich and delicious candy-like flavor.

Ingredients: White Rhino (White Tea), Organic Calendula, Organic Cornflowers, Organic Natural Flavors (vegan)

Recommended Brew Time: 3 minutes
Recommended Amount: 2 level teaspoons of tea for 8oz of water
Recommended Temperature: 212 F (boiling)

This one smells really good in the bag! I just want to keep sniffing! I can pick up the butterscotch, but the mocha and hazelnut do sort of meld together. Steeped, I definitely get more butterscotch than anything. My brew seemed a little thinner than I had hoped I’d get, though I might have under leafed it. I was hoping to get a bit more body for the white, and have the heavier butterscotch, hazelnut and mocha flavours add to the depth and richness in that way that you would want on a crisp autumn day, or a colder winter one. Something thicker that wraps around you like a hug…only less caffeine than a black would.

I do feel like if I used more leaf, I’d get that, and I’m toying with adding milk to enhance the richness. I do still find that for a white tea, it is rich and has more body than you’d expect (just not quite enough for me, unless upping the leaf helps), and I would recommend this to others.

I may readjust my rating once I have made another cup and used more leaf.

Indigobloom

Interesting! I get a LOT of mocha flavour in the cup I’m having now. Not much caramel at all

Plunkybug

Interesting. How much leaf did you use?

Indigobloom

How much did it say? 1 tsp right? I think I did that. I’m not home now lol

Plunkybug

It says 2 tsp per 8 oz

Indigobloom

Ah I followed whatever was on the instructions. I was tired so can’t recall (no memory retention lol)

Sad sipdown today.

I have been drinking this one the last couple of weeks with just a piece or two of brown crystal sugar. Does anyone know where else to get the brown crystal sugar that Butiki used to sell? It is so convenient to use.
Anyway, I actually enjoyed this tea more as it aged because it seemed that the mocha notes slipped into the background, making way for the butterscotch and hazelnut to come to the forefront. The White Rhino base was delicious of course. I miss that tea too.

Evol Ving Ness

If I am not mistaken, DT, Teavana, and maybe Williams Sonoma carry brown rock sugar if that is what you are speaking of. I wasn’t around in Butiki days.

tigress_al

Thanks Evol! I didn’t even know DAVIDs had it! I will pick some up once I run out

I was so full after dinner that I didn’t think I could have anything heavy or rich yet I still wanted something flavorful so I went with this tasty tea. The base is simultaneously full-bodied and light and I know that doesn’t make much sense but it’s true. The flavors are also decadent but in a subtle manner, as opposed to beating you over the head to get across their tastes.

Kittenna

Argh, keep reading notes and thinking, “yum! I should brew some of that tea up!” and then looking guiltily at my full mugs of not-that-tea, which I really need to drink first… sigh.

VariaTEA

Haha well I am really trying to hoard this one but last night I moved the 2 oz I got in my last order into a tin so it would stay fresh and the smell made me crave it

To a person with a sweet tooth this smells so heavenly, deliciously yummy! Like the smell the butterscotch and mocha dominate at first sip but the nutty hazelnut comes through at the end. This will be a good tea for Halloween season

I’m a fan of white rhino so I was excited to try this flavored incarnation. I really wasn’t sure about the Butterscotch/Hazelnut/Mocha combo but since I love the base tea and really am a fan of Stacy’s flavored whites I thought I’d give it a whirl. And it works! It really works! The nuttiness and mocha enhances the malty darker side of this tea, and the butterscotch adds a sweet (but not fakey sweet) and bouncy overtone. I’m sure this would be amazing with sugar, but it is not the kind of tea that NEEDS it to be successful, which is GREAT IMO. Kudos, Stacy, this is another winner in my book, and SO creative! :D

Marzipan

Bouncy, I like that.

Can’t wait to try this one! :)

Cheri

Sounds really good. I was kind of hesitant on this one, also not being sure about butterscotch/hazelnut/mocha combo. I didn’t get it this time, but maybe I’ll add it to my next order.

So guess this tea isn’t in the system yet…Or it’s just worded differently and I can’t find it. xD
On the label of this tea it says to use 2 level teaspoons…but if you see on the picture of this tea it’s kinda long and weirdly shaped. I like when tea looks like this…but I have no idea if I put too much or too little tea when it’s like this. xD I usually try and use a teaspoon but it just doesn’t work out so well, so I estimate how much I should put in without anything. So maybe this review is super accurate, or maybe it’s not. xD I have a feeling I generally put too little tea when I don’t use a teaspoon to measure it out.
Anyway! Moving on…
This tea smells insanely good. Mainly getting butterscotch and honey out of it. It’s strong so that was a good sign!
As for taste, it’s still a lot of butterscotch and honey. Not tasting too much hazelnut. Maybe a little bit, but the butterscotch kinda overrules this tea.
It’s so smooth and naturally sweet- I do love a tea that I don’t need to add sweetener to! :D
And so we have yet another win from Butiki Teas! :D
This really does taste like candy! ^^ Thank you, Stacy for your awesome birthday sale! :D So excited to try more of your teas!

Ooh! Can’t wait to try it!

Ost

My note doesn’t do this tea justice! But you won’t regret buying it! So good!

Butiki Teas

Yay! I’m so glad you are enjoying it! I never know how a new tea will be viewed. Everyone here always says everything is amazing which is no help. I often eagerly await the first reviews to see if a tea is good or not, especially since I’m not always the best judge cough thought Irish Cream Cheesecake was amazing but no one else did cough.

Ost

Haha true. All of us just get too excited to be helpful. xD
I’m sure lots of people will like this one.And plus if not many people like it I’m sure there will be some people to help you get rid of it…I wouldn’t mind buying this again. :P Well you’ve won over one person with that blend so far. So that’s a start! ;)

Butiki Teas

Ost-You guys are really helpful, I meant at the office everyone thinks every tea is amazing. Steepster is one of the only places I can find a number of honest reviews. We hardly get any direct feedback from customers through email.

Ost

Oh okay haha well that’s good. :P

Stephanie

I loved Irish Cream Cheesecake too Stacy! I thought I must be the only one because I had more than one person send me the rest of their pouch when they didn’t like it :P

Butiki Teas

Stephanie-I think it really was just not the best base tea to use since the tea was super finicky and easily astringent if not prepared exactly. I’m still thinking about trying it again on a different base but I have so many new ideas rattling around before considering going back.

Krystal

This sounds delicious!

Stephanie

That makes sense, I don’t mind astringent sometimes ;)
