Cream Egg

The second of the free Easter treats from Bird&Blend with my ohh deer order.
It´s nice to try teas I´ve never tried before, but the name of this blend refers to the Cadbury cream eggs and the smell alone of these cream eggs already makes me sick. Needless to say, I wasn´t really hopeful to discover a tea I would be convinced to buy ;-) …and no, it wasn´t a success, although I feared it to be worse.
In nose the typical Cadbury drinking chocolate powder – I used to like when doing my PhD in UK in the ´90s – with a pseudo boozy touch to it. This could result in a nice after-dinner drink, but an infusion in water is just too thin IMHO. I used to prepare the Cadbury chocolate drink powders in hot milk for the exact same reason, to add density and body. Although I´m not so fond of chocolate drinks anymore, I would advise fans of these drinks to use the chocolate powder with milk instead of paying far more for a tea blend like this. BTW, I didn´t even notice the black tea backbone here, nor the jasmine blossom indicated in the list of ingredients.

The brewed tea certainly smells chocolatey and creamy.

It tastes floral and creamy, with a hint of chocolate near the end of the sip. There are also notes of vanilla and butter. It tastes like the holidays, sitting by the fireplace! I’ll bet it would be good as a latte, or even a latte with cocoa powder to make it more chocolatey. Thanks again, Martin!

I hope everyone who celebrates had a great Easter. Cream egg! An essential Easter treat is Cadbury eggs. I love the Cadbury cream eggs.  I love the mini eggs. I received a sample of this recently.  Maybe the magic is in a single fresh teabag because this tastes like a luscious cream egg to me!  I was a little worried with this jasmine being here… I thought it would ruin it.  And there isn’t really a creamy component to the tea… like marshmallow or something.  That would make it a little too much like their Easter Egg Nests blend.  This is very similar but without the green tea, which means it is much smoother.  Cocoa shells for delicious chocolate flavor. However, somehow the second steep does have a bit of a bite to it… so pretty much just like Easter Egg Nests.  I like this one!  But again, it’s probably the magic of the single wrapped teabag and it needs to be a bit more special than just chocolate.  I already have a ton of Easter Egg Nests in stock.

I figured I would just get this over with, as upon opening the packet I was overwhelmed with the scent of chocolate flavoring…

It’s actually not that bad. There’s definitely an artificial quality to the chocolate, but it also does kind of taste like a Cadbury Creme Egg. It has a certain sweet fondant-like quality to it, and a hint of an alcoholic note. It’s like somewhere between a cream egg and a chocolate-covered cherry.

No bad, just not for me. Into the rehoming box it goes!

This just arrived in the mail from Bird & Blend as a sample along with my latest order from them. Just another example of the wild scents good tea creators can evoke when they’re in firing on all cylinders. The creaminess is so present to the nose it seems overkill to add any milk to this tea. So I didn’t. It works just fine as it is. I added a little bit of sweetener of choice and found it a pleasurable alternative to the sugar coma levels of its namesake. I’m sitting her sipping on it and can’t for the life of me pull out what I’m tasting — I mean it’s delicious — but beyond buttery, I’m at a loss here. There’s a milk chocolate mellowness to it. Also caramel, I guess? Yeah, yeah. Buttery caramel. I’ll go with that.
I’d be bummed at just having the sample, but having recently signed up for the Bird & Blend subscription service, I’m delighted to see Cream Egg is included in their regular March subscription box (for Easter I suppose). So I look forward to many more cups of this new tea.

I’m seeing nothing but glowing reviews on B&B site and expecting something marvellous, but it wasn’t that for me.
Doesn’t taste like the name Cream Egg would imply, but more like a weak black tea. Can also taste a slightly sweet vanilla flavour with the tang of the black tea but that’s it – there isn’t any chocolatey flavour like the description promised. How on earth could tea taste like chocolate, anyway?
Perhaps they could try making this as a hot chocolate with real pieces of fondant in? Tea cannot taste like chocolate or at least not in my experience.

Artificial aroma, full of chocolate; alcohol liquor of the dry blend.

Brewed 4 grams / 96 °C water / almost 4 minutes.

Not only the brew was weak. It was kind of strange in taste as well. It reminded me mostly Milka milk chocolate which I am not fan of. Then some vanilla notes and… again some alcohol. Sherry maybe? It wasn’t that bad as I was afraid reading Amada’s tasting note, but… it wasn’t that enjoyable as I have hoped. Now the pouch is really strongly alcohol like when I smelled it. Brew was really sweet for me as well.

I don’t know, I never had a cream egg. But I suppose it isn’t alcohol like?

I got this in my March subscription from Bird and Blend. This is honestly not a tea I would’ve purchased, because chocolate teas are just a bit too hit or miss for me, and there didn’t seem to be anything too extraordinary about this one. I made most of the sample as a cold brew in almond/cashew/pea milk (which is still in the fridge), and the rest hot (with nothing added). Hot, it’s pretty gross. It has that awkward thinness that so many chocolate teas suffer from, and that dreaded synthetic flavor. It’s just not good.
