From Adagio Teas

Green tea from the Chinese village of Dragon Well (Lung Ching in local parlance). Dragon Well tea has a distinguished shape. Its leaves are broad and flat, a result of laborious drying. There is something to show for this hard work: Dragon Well tea is refreshingly smooth, sweet and delicate, among the very best of Chinese greens. Our ‘Dragon Well Requiem’ is a First Grade version of this truly sublime tea.

This came in their green tea sampler that I purchased, along with my IngenuiTea (which I love btw). All bad reviews aside, this is an “ok” green tea, IF you are looking for something light. But the bitterness is not a good thing, so this will not get a “yummy” from me either.

This is a very good all-around green tea. Good amount of grassiness, pale liquor, just barely sweet and a touch of astringency. The caffeine content and the taste serve up a nice kick in the pants during that afternoon lull, but I’m sure this tea would do well any time of the day. Re-steeps well so you can get the most bang for your buck.

1tsp./8oz water, 165º-175º for 2-3 minutes. Add 1 minute per re-steep

I haven’t had this particular dragonwell before but there’s no mistaking those distinctive flat, jade-green leaves, and also no mistaking that distinctive slightly malty, slightly roasted sort of flavour. I don’t have my tea thermometer with me, so I let the water cool for five minutes before steeping for three minutes, and it turned out very well.

pretty good. One of my favorite greens. I tend with my kettle to have trouble getting the water temp right for greens. and really to me unless you start adding flavors its kinda hard to have green variations

Cofftea

try 175 degrees F.

Tea for work today. Vegetal with an ever so slight roasted quality and a tiny but of astringency. Still need to try other Dragonwells to compare.

I know NarienTeas has pretty good Dragonwell, but other than that I’m not sure :)

On my lunch break, I watch the snow decide to melt or persist while tapping my foot to Fall Out Boy. Patrick Stump still sings the songs he did to move my teenage mind, but we’re both fooling ourself and I’m fine with that for a few minutes. He can still be a hero to wasted youth and I can still be young.

In a few minutes, back to work.

I haven’t had a green tea in a while so I figured I’d give this one a shot. It’s been sitting in my cupboard tucked away for about a year so maybe that effected the taste a bit, but I really enjoyed this one. The smell of the dry leaves is just a sweet green smell for me and the wet leaves smell strongly of spinach. The taste was the real surprise, very sweet and an incredible buttery mouthfeel. I thought of myself as more of an oolong person, but thanks to this tea I think I’ll have to look into some other green teas.

The rest of the sample is now officially something I am not interested in. Smells slightly of tobacco (not the can be good smelling pipe kind, the cigarettes in a bar kind) and stale cereal. taste is also stale cereal with an aftertaste of ash…

I don’t know what I’ve done but I’ve tried this three times varying the temperature and amount of tea leaves and just can’t seem to find a way that I like this enough to even consider using the rest of the sample. Based on the reviews below I am wondering if this tea greatly varies based upon the growing conditions from the farm it was harvested from… no idea, but this sample from adagio goes in the I don’t want to buy again pile. Dragonwell may be a good tea, it is either I can’t prepare it properly, the sample was bad, or this tea and me have irreconcilable differences!

It took a couple of trys, but now I’m a big fan of this tea. It’s delicate and chlorophyll-y.

Temporary note: preferred third steeping when I picked up delicate flavour but can’t describe yet.
