What this isn’t: a traditional chai. The spices are great, but they are a completely different blend from a typical masala chai. The coconut and lemongrass lack the body typically associated with a good chai, and it won’t really warm you up that much. I have yet to try this with milk and sugar though, so I might be wrong.

What this is: delicious. This reminds me so much of Solonese food that it holds a special place on my shelf. On its own, it is quiet but rich in a far less assaulting way, and I almost don’t want to mix milk and sugar to it, in fear of losing that subtlety.

I had this tea earlier, but haven’t made any notes about. Not even in my head, as I just enjoyed this chai.

Today, it’s a bit different. I was careful about everything — steeping, aromas, flavour and everything.

Drank before I had to throw the snow, I guess about 10 cm of new snow from early morning (it’s 6 pm now) adn it is still snowing with the same intensity.

I wanted some warming up tea; and this one delivers great.
I have opened the pouch and wasn’t impressed. It was quite foul, maybe coconut going slowly rancid or something. Cinnamon was very sweet, and some hints of lemongrass.

But decided to brew it anyway — I took the rest, which were approximately three teaspoons and used those DIY tea bags. That works quite well for most the teas, anyway.

I steeped it for recommended 5 minutes and I was quite afraid being too strong. It was, but in terms of cinnamon. Sweet cinnamon notes complemented with nice, but not great coconut sweetness. And other chai notes? Well somehow muted. It was like hot cinnamon tea; while I have been expecting more from the coconut for sure. Maybe it’s the age. I have not got any lemongrass nor ginger. And speaking of cardamom, I am not sure to have any in my tea.

Overall, quite easydrinking stuff. Much milder than expected.

My very favorite coconut chai is from Satori Tea Company, so I might be giving an unfair review of this one. It doesn’t at all compare to my #1 in that category. It smelled delicious as I spooned it out of the bag. The coconut is evident, though I’m thinking it might be on the very edge of spoilage. Either that or I expected it to be spoiled so my mind kept sending me there. Or I just wanted a cup of my fav and I’m being grumpy about it. My husband loved it (and he doesn’t very often drink black teas or chai) so this is probably a good one, but there’s definitely better coconut chai blends out there.

OKAY! New Rule. All chai teas will be reviewed using the same prep method- With Almond Milk and two splendas. That being said, time for the review.
WOW! This is certainly a… DIFFERENT tea. I don’t think I have ever had tea with coconut in it before and it shows. I really don’t know if I like this at all or not. The Coconut is pinging in my mouth along with the chai spice and it is really a weird combo. It’s almost like combining sweet with spice and getting sour. I don’t what to do with this. It is kinda tasty, but just really too odd a flavor combo for me. The flavor is very strong even with the almond milk and sweetener. Nope, don’t think I can recommend this one. It’s different in a bad way.

Does the dry leaf have a “sour” or “off” smell, or any of the dry coconut slivers taste funny if you lick/nibble one, by chance? Dried coconut is the one ingredient notorious for going bad quickly in tea, with a shelf life of around 4-6 months, and I’m not so sure how long Adagio’s teas sit around in warehouses before they ship it. I know when I’ve had bad coconut in teas it had a sour/acrid taste. Since you described a sour taste in your cup it just makes me wonder. I know I had a fandom blend mixed with their Thai Chai that had the coconut in it go bad.

Nope. I both smelled and tasted it. It does not seem to be that. I think what I’m tasting is the lemongrass. I noticed that there was a ton of green strands in it which I believe is the lemongrass, so that would explain the weird flavor I was getting. I’m not use to mixing sweet/zest/spice. It’s not that it is rancid, or bad so to speak. It’s just a flavor combination I’m not used to. I drank two cups of it and didn’t get sick either so I really think it will be ok.

Drinking bad coconut in a tea has never made me physically ill, but it does make the cup smell absolutely repugnant. Everything from a sour/acridness to that chemical spray-on sunscreen taste/smell to even smelling/tasting like vomit. It’s very noticable. If the leaf and brewed cup smell fine, then it’s still fine, which is good!

I do know lots of folks that don’t care for lemongrass. Sort of like a citrusy hay flavor, so it is a little herbal and a little tangy.

Even while sick… This one to me is a No. Lots of mixed reviews on this one. It’s like soapy perfume. To be fair, I got a few free samples of this and it sat around for like 4 months but I didn’t like it then and I don’t like it now.

On a good note… Sipdown.

Bought this after receiving a sample. The lemongrass and coconut really make this unique from other chais. It’s not quite like the Thai tea you get in restaurants (it’s a little too lemongrass-y and coconutty for that), but it’s very enjoyable if you like that sweet/spicy combination. Definitely a tea that I’ll be keeping in my collection.

Lemongrass and coconut add a playful Thai dimension to the classic chai flavour. The citrus notes are offset by the coconut and spices, each distinct flavour mingling together in a light and breezy way. I enjoyed it, but had hoped the coconut was going to be stronger than the lemongrass!
