From 52teas

A Very Important Tea (VIT) for a VIP (Very Important Pair)!

When a dear friend of mine (and a very special customer from our Page of Awesomeness) wrote to me and asked me to create a tea for her proposal to her significant other, I was thrilled and tremendously honored that she would ask me to create something that would be part of such a momentous milestone in her life.

So we went into some of the overall details of her tea concept. She wanted a tea that would be representative of six continents – as she wanted to invite him to explore the world with her! What a lovely concept! Since Antarctica isn’t really a place many people visit (or grow things!) she didn’t include all seven continents.

Fortunately, because tea is such a global product, this wouldn’t be too difficult a task.

Then she got into some specific details: because Dragon Well is a favorite of both of them, she wanted it to be included in the blend. She also wanted a jasmine tea to be part of the blend.

So we had the continent of Asia represented!

For the continent of Africa, I added some green rooibos. From the continent of Europe, I added some green tea from Portugal and from the continent of Oceania, I added some green tea from New Zealand.

For the American continents, we have our additions: the continent of North America is represented by big, juicy blackberries and for the continent of South America, we have cacao nibs & shells. Finally, the chocolate chips represent both American continents: the cacao was grown in South America, but they were produced in North America.

So there we have it: this is a green tea/green rooibos blend featuring Dragon Well and Jasmine teas from China, Young Hysson from Portugal and green tea from New Zealand, green rooibos from South Africa – and this base is blended with blackberries and chocolate. This is no ordinary blend – specially crafted with love and respect for two very special people!

And of course, this blend was crafted with our basic values intact: it’s VEGAN, gluten free & allergen free!

ingredients: green teas & chocolate chips (cacao & sugar)

organic ingredients: green teas, green rooibos, blackberries, cacao nibs & shells & natural flavors

This was a real treat to try, courtesy of our friend Nichole! You’d think that such a disparate bundle of ingredients—-everything from jasmine to blackberries—would fight against one another, but they melded into a light, sweet confection that led with the blackberry/cacao. The green tea and jasmine showed up at the tail end of each sip—kind of like a Ronco-matic “But Wait! There’s More!” bonus. (And hello, dashboard! I’ve missed y’all.)

Evol Ving Ness

I like those teas which have like strobe lights with flavours. Anne’s Peach Smoky Butterscotch Black or something along those lines comes to mind.

gmathis

Flavor strobe lights! Excellent analogy. Tea blenders that can do a mish-mash properly without letting it get too weird are rare and wonderful people!

Evol Ving Ness

Agreed, And we need to treasure them. Anne, I appreciate you for your creativity and tea talents and for you being you, of course.

Mastress Alita’s sipdown challenge Saturday, November 20th: National Absurdity Day Tea #1

For absurd teas, I naturally want to go for Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster, but I think I have used that in more than one challenge prompt, so I won’t do that today.  How about this one?  Someone else mentioned it the other day for it’s seemingly weird ingredients… but it somehow works (and of course, Anne would have carefully thought about and balanced this blend anyway, so it works!)  But what am I thinking, jasmine, berries & chocolate are my thing.  So it’s good to know they work together.  Especially balanced with those flavors today – yum.

gmathis

Good call for the day!

2021 Sipdown 111/365!

Another sipdown courtesy of the great 52teas inventorying project that I don’t think I previously mentioned. I’m done, by the way… I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 250 different 52teas (Anne era; Frank era is separate); some have multiple entries on my spreadsheet (reblends), and a handful, I believe I lost to the work mouse 3 years ago and didn’t properly record, but am not entirely sure yet. A lot of teas, regardless, but it’s nice to know what I have. (Apparently, quite a few versions of Pancake Breakfast and Mayan Chocolate Chai, and no surprise bonus packages of my favourites, all of which are sitting at one cup remaining).

This tea was a tiny sample package in an order; a strange combination but one that I kind of liked. I had a very busy day and really can’t remember what it tasted like, aside from green tea/jasmine/cacao in a pleasant… melange. Perfectly happy with the two-cup sample of this tea; although I enjoyed it, it’s not one I’d seek out.

gmathis

It is an odd-duck mixture, isn’t it? (But my conclusion was the same—it’s pretty tasty!)

tea-sipper

jaw drop! You are a 52teas fan! I don’t feel like such a hoarder now. :D

Tiffany :)

I love 52teas, one of my favorite companies. I wonder how many different blends I have? I never inventory my tea.. Hmm..

52Teas

It’s crazy for me to think that I’ve actually blended anywhere near 250 teas, but if you think about it: in June, we will reach our 7th anniversary. We blend no fewer than 52 different teas a year (granted, some are reblends, but there are at least 52 different teas a year – including those reblends) which means that a minimum of 364 different teas have been blended or reblended – and sometimes, I do blend a VIT or a special reblend request (for example, I just reblended the Honeyed Lemon Black Tea at my mother’s request) – that’s a lot of teas! Wow.

Evol Ving Ness

Wow. Go you! That’s quite an achievement. And a lot of stress and pressure. Well done, Anne!

Kittenna

tea-sipper – a 52teas fan, subscriber, and also a tea hoarder. Ahaha. I find it difficult to sip down faves, and don’t get through non-faves quickly because I have so much tea… hence, the huge number!

Tiffany – I’m curious!!

52Teas – It is crazy, I know! That’s a lot of teas over the years, but does make sense when you do the math. Do you keep track of which teas you reblend, and when? And also – you forgot about the 12 teas of Christmas, which adds another 12 or so teas a year (I know some are also part of the weekly teas, so maybe more like 10?).

52Teas

Kittenna – I really wish I have kept track of them better – I do have my archive of blog posts and such (that was a painstaking thing to do – when my previous website began failing on me earlier this year – I transferred all those blog posts to the cloud so they won’t (hopefully) be lost. Also – I have my spreadsheet which shows all the teas of the week that I’ve blended since I started (but it doesn’t reflect any VIT or special request reblends – or the rewards blends – which is where the blog posts come in handy because those show VITs and special blending events – but neither reflect the consistent reblending of D’s Teas) basically, I’ve been a busy mad tea artist. :)

Kittenna

Ultimately, doesn’t really matter – and definitely is consistent with being a mad tea artist, haha!

When I was inventorying my teas, I used all sorts of random sources to try and organize/date the teas so I’ve have an idea of how old things were – found tons of old emails (newsletters and invoices), Steepster posts with info, but it was spotty at best. I regretted not dating teas as I’d received them, but I’m trying to do so now!

Not a tea I would have chosen for myself, but I’m happy to try it as part of my mystery bag. The primary flavor is jasmine. Honestly, that’s the only flavor I taste. The tea I have in my other mug is also jasmine (accidentally) so I’m able to compare them directly. I don’t mind jasmine, but it’s not something I’d drink more than about once a year. So anyway, this tea is good, but not that suited to my tastes. I would have liked to be able to taste some of the berry. I do like it better than pure jasmine since the other teas soften the flavor a bit at least.

Well, I wanted to try something new. And since I’m running out of new tea, I figured I’d try one of these sample packs that a certain Mad Tea Artist sent me!

Quick pre-brew notes: The package smells like berries. Very sweet berries. I’m getting a little bit of green smell too, but not much.

Since it was a sample package, there was no brewing perameters on the bag. So I tried to go for a happy medium between Green Tea and Green Rooibos. So Western Style, at 175F/3Min/16oz/however much the sample was.

For starters, the brewed smell is definitely green tea. It’s very noticibly that. Taste is— Wow that is different. I’m getting the berries, they are providing a bit of tart sweetness. The green tea/green rooibos however, is really not grassy at all. Actually, it’s kind of… meaty? Kinda like a Bi Luo Chun? Which is weird because I didn’t see any of that listed in the ingredients. Besides those two flavors, nothing else really jumps out at me, but it’s more because the tea is so balanced rather than it being bland.

As it cools, I’m getting some floral and fruity notes (besides the berries). It also tastes like there is a background bitterness that is trying to break through, but the rest of the flavor profile is keeping it in check. This was a surprisingly tasty tea. I didn’t think I’d like it this much, but now I am considering getting a pouch or two. Solid Rec, guys. Give this one a shot. It’s different, but in a good way.

Ooh, sounds interesting. I also got a sample pouch of this one, but haven’t tried it yet. Now I’m more intrigued, though!
