Featured Reblend of May 2020!
This month’s featured reblend is one that I’ve been asked to reblend for quite some time. The thing is, I don’t always have white tea in stock. But, now, I have this BEAUTIFUL Bai Mu Dan – so I decided it was time to reblend this one … just in time for summertime iced tea brewing!
This blend was originally blended by Frank back 2011. His description of this tea goes like this:
Here’s our delicate and sweet Bai Mu Dan white tea blended with real freeze-dried strawberry bits, organic lemon myrtle and natural flavors. If it’s anywhere near as hot where you are as it is here (111° yesterday!), you’re going to want some of this deliciousness to cool off with. It makes a great, light, refreshing and thirst-quenching iced tea!
But don’t drag your feet! Like all of our Tea of the Week offerings, this is a limited edition blend. When it’s gone, it’s gone!
I changed the recipe slightly – first, I’m pretty sure that the Bai Mu Dan I’m using is from a different estate (which does make a difference). I also omitted the lemon myrtle from the original recipe, primarily because of the first reason – this Bai Mu Dan is so fluffy & the leaves are so large – that the lemon myrtle would simply sift though the leaves. Instead, I opted for lemon grass, which mingles with the Bai Mu Dan leaves much nicer. I also added dried lemon wedges to the blend.
It’s still DELICIOUS – dare I say better than I remember? To be fair though, it’s been so long since I’ve had this blend. This is really good though, sweet, light & so refreshing. Tart lemon with sweet strawberry – SO GOOD! It’s also VEGAN, organic, gluten-free & allergen-free!

I’ll be honest – I finished my test cup of this before I was able to write this review. I had to go and resteep the leaves to write this! It resteeps well!
The Bai Mu Dan is so light & has a crisp, fresh taste to it. The lemon is bright & a little bit tart. The tartness is softened by the sweetness of the berry. Everything is beautifully harmonious. So very nice!
to brew: use 2 1/2 grams of leaf to 12 ounces of hot water (165°F), steep for 3 1./2 minutes. strain & allow to cool for at least 5 minutes. enjoy!
This one is FABULOUS iced. It also resteeps well!

Well I am still making my way through the 12 days of christmas packets… it was hidden in my cupboard so today I pulled this one and I was not really sure I was in the mood for a fruit tea but decided to give it a try.
The smell of the tea was just like it says, nice strawberry and hint of tartness at the end which would be the lemonade. I steeped it very short time since it is a white tea and the taste of the tea is much more flavorful than I thought it would be for a white tea! It had a great strawberry taste and at the end you can taste the lemonade part. i would love to try this one cold because I bet it would be so refreshing in the summer on a hot day! Yum Yum Yum.
I’m nervous about white teas, but the ones I’ve tried from 52teas have been really nice and inviting. This is no exception. Lightly sweet, hints of strawberries and lemon. Enjoying it hot on a cold Winter night, but must be awesome cold in the Summer!
It has a great aroma and the flavors are delicate and not too intrusive. A nice departure from blacks & greens..my taste buds can relax a bit just about now.
I’m still weary about trying whites by itself
May 2020 Reblend
This is such a freaking good iced tea. It tastes and smells exactly what you’d imagine and want the tea equivalent of strawberry lemonade to be like.
The blend brings back memories of being a kid obsessed with the smell of those sickeningly sweet and citrusy frozen Minute Maid Pink Lemonade cans (so poignant a smell, so strange a child) . Now I, as an adult, can smell and drink this refreshing tea with no weird looks and a far less chance of developing cavities. These are the real milestone moments.
Flavors: Citrus, Lemon, Lemongrass, Strawberry, Sugar
Bird and Blend used to do a great strawberry lemonade tea. I wish they’d bring it back for the summer.
I think I vaguely remember their strawberry lemonade tea but that was ages ago.. I keep meaning to reorder from them too, but I’m waiting for the peach thing to transition into limited edition stuff that will hopefully be better aligned with my tastes! XD
I want to see if I still like Vicky’s Sponge Cake. I pretty much lived off of that stuff in 2013-2014, along with now defunct Della Terra’s Lime Chiffon D:

Today’s work cold brew. I was surprised, at first, at how kind-of floral this one comes out. That was the first thing I really noticed about it when I took a sip. The more I drink of it, though, the less I notice that aspect. It seems a bit odd, but there you go. Once I got past the initial “thick” white tea and flowers, this is actually a pretty good rendition of “strawberry lemonade.” I can definitely taste the lemon, which is slightly sharp if a little chemically (it reminds me of lemon juice from those lemon shaped bottles – did they used to call that Jif?), and it’s closely followed by the strawberry. The strawberry is also pretty unnatural – very sweet and candy-like – but such is life. Together, it’s strawberry lemonade, which is a pretty artificial thing in itself to begin with, I suppose.
I didn’t enjoy this one quite as much as I hoped I would. It’s refreshing, but the flavour isn’t quite there and the white tea base seems far too prominent. I think I’ll make my next jug with a bit less leaf, just to see, but today’s was created with my usual 2 tbsp of leaf to 2 litres of water, so I don’t really think it’s that. More a case of “you can’t win them all” probably!
I didn’t really know what I was doing last night when I concocted this but it worked! I steeped it with boiling water for a few minutes then let it cool in my little glass pitcher to let it cool. Then I threw some strawberries I had in my freezer in it and let it sit overnight. I think I could have let it steep a bit longer as there is not a lot of flavor but it is refreshing and enjoyable as is :)
While this wasn’t a bad tea, it just didn’t seem to hit the right chords. The title is luscious, but made as iced tea it fell short of expectations. The strawberry was too subtle and the lemon myrtle didn’t offer enough sour to truly complement the Bai Mu Dan tea. A waltz on the tongue was expected, while a leisurely stroll in the park is what appeared. A little experimentation might elevate this one; a bit of lemon or perhaps a dash of Del’s Lemonade mix might make this a really good iced tea.
Final analysis: Drinkable, but could do with a little help.
