Not a bad bagged green. Sipping (okay, really, gulping) at work.

The last of the tasty, inexpensive shou.

I am back, after some long and log-less travels! (I did drink tea, during them, though.)
Starting off my morning with a bit of oatmeal and some of this delicious and naturally sweet black tea. No, the tea is not in the oatmeal…this time.

drank Calm by Tazo

Upon opening the bag, I oddly smell spearmint – not chamomile – first thing. Hmmm, how strange. The ingredients on the package only list chamomile, rose petals, and “soothing herbs.” As their website reveals, one of those herbs is spearmint leaves. Mystery solved (except for why the spearmint smells so strongly!) The taste of “Calm” involves a lot of flavors. As per the website, the herbs are quite a few things, all of which play their part in the taste of this blend. Thankfully, the chamomile presents its flavor above all the others – very good. The spearmint takes a back seat and the lemongrass laces the edges. Floating through the middle, somewhere, are subtle notes of rose and lavender, just barely present.

My main problem with this blend – everything tastes a bit flat, like the ingredients are old or something of that nature.

Tazo could have done far, far worse than this blend, and I quite like that they seem to have spent the effort to craft it well. On my personal enjoyment scale, I would rate it a 76/100.

Yeah, this one doesn’t rate more than a “not bad” with me, but it’s a good “not bad,” if that makes sense.

Almost out of this one too. Hmmm, if I am out of four teas by a company, does that mean a journey to that tea shop is in order? I think so!

Bio

“I love trading tea and trying new teas. My favourites are oolong (mainly Chinese) and pu’erh.
Will gladly talk all day about tea.”

The above was my bio when I joined five years ago, and I felt it needed to be updated. I still love pu’erh, though I have begun to take preference toward cooked, shou. Oolongs are certainly still a go-to tea for me, but I have expanded my horizons to begin including greens and blacks based upon the weather and how I am feeling.

Still more than glad to talk about tea – anytime, anywhere, anyplace.
Additionally, if fountain pens, books, music, or computers are on the discussion list…

My ratings, this “personal enjoyment scale” about which I talk, are just that – based on how much I enjoyed the tea. I might have enjoyed it immensely, yet do not keep it stocked for various reasons. On the flip side, I have a few teas that are “good” but not “great,” which I keep stocked for various reasons.
