17147 Tasting Notes
Mmm, finally sitting down and enjoying this one again. To be perfectly honest, I put off having it for a really long time because when I last had it I ended up getting violently ill – though I’m convinced it was either from the eggs I had at the same time or a result of being sick prior and not being completely aware of that – and nothing to do with the tea itself.
Still, the association is there and so I’ve been hesitant to re-invite it.
Parameters for this 10 oz. mug were just barely 1 1/2 tsp. of leaf in boiling water, steeped for four minutes. Taste wise, it actually tastes fairly different from what I remember. My recollection is a very intensely strawberry/rhubarb tea with a bit of pie crust, but what I’m experiencing right now is more akin to lots of pie crust with medium notes of juicy strawberry and lighter notes of rhubarb. Perhaps that boils down to just a different assortment of stuff in the leaf…
Anyway, it’s a delicious cup and I very much enjoy it. I’m glad I put my hesitation aside and didn’t let it prevent me from still enjoying this blend, because just… Mmmmmm!
Cold brewed this! From the moment I smelled it in store I knew that I wouldn’t be trying this out as a cold brew – it just seemed like it had all the right flavours to be done well that way. About three cups worth were cold brewed for a grand total of about 14 hours, give or take an hour or so.
I must say, it does taste pretty good: very yummy fresh raspberry notes (sweet and a little tangy) with splashes of peach. I still taste the coffee that I experienced in my last (hot) cup, though! It’s such a weird thing to be tasting in a raspberry/peach white tea.
It must be the wool flowers! I don’t know how they’re supposed to taste, but I guess my brain is processing them as coffee. Oh well, at least it’s not a bad taste. Maybe I’ll use Tre as a Guinea Pig and see if he tastes it too.
And this would be the last of my backlogged tasting notes! Yay! It feels good to be caught up again.
Technically I had a few glasses of this over the last couple days because I was finishing off my cold brewed pitcher of it, but I’m just gonna group them all into one tasting note for convenience.
Cup One: Tasty really grassy with a weird creamy pineapple taste that I wasn’t a big fan of. It took a while to finish what I had poured.
Cup Two: Finished off the pitcher (so, three cups yielded in total – which isn’t so bad). Considering all these were from the same cold brew batch and strained at the same time I was rather surprised I actually enjoyed this cup. It didn’t taste too grassy to me, and it had a strong creamy coconut/apricot taste to it which worked pretty well.
Very peculiar.
Made some of this last night with milk to sip at whilst chain breeding on Pokemon. Initially I didn’t think this would be something I’d want to keep around because I wasn’t super impressed with my first few cups, but it’s really grown on me (especially now that I know to slightly overleaf). I may change my mind and add it to my list of things to reorder…
I’m increasing my rating.
Absolutely! Right now I’m on the hunt to add a shiny male and female Meowstic to my collection, nicknamed after lead characters in the Ibsen play Hedda Gabler. I have nine shinies so far, but none from chain breeding (all from in game encounters) – this is my first time using the Masudo method.
I had it once – the first thing I had in my timolino (as a tea to go). It was horribly oversteeped (like, half an hour) because that was before they replaced the broken brew basket and it had sunk to the bottom and couldn’t be removed so it steeped the whole bus right home, lol. It was pretty good, though despite that.
Augh, that is so awesome. I’ve never had the patience to properly shiny hunt. That’s an impressive sized collection! Much respect, hehe!
I can’t take all the credit – one is the in game shiny Gyarados, and two were gifts from my brother (for various reasons), so I suppose only six of them were actually found by me. My Butterfree and Mightyena are my pride and joy, though! I’m not sure how I feel about chain breeding, though – but thankfully I have lots of spare time right now.
@Roswell Strange – I will toss a bit more into our next swap so you can try it again. I find this and that tea similar but personally I prefer the other (though I know I am the minority in that opinion)
My fantasy is a well paying (above minimum wage) full time job, for my laptop to start working again, and to get my teeth all fixed without going broke.
Anyway, I put a start on that yesterday by going for my interview – which would be a full time, above minimum wage labor/retail sales job that, after three months (probationary period) would have health benefits like dental. I think the interview went well. Meaning, I’m pretty sure I answered all their questions well, though I’m not sure if I meet their qualifications in regard to past experience working labor jobs…
Right now I’m just waiting to hear back, though still browsing job hunting sites in the meantime just in case. Maybe my expectations for where I want to work are too high? I really need a job…
This was the travel tea I took with me for the day though (I had errands to do after the interview), aptly picked because of the name and the funny mood I was in.
Taste wise, it was OK but I’ve decided that there’s just not enough raspberry in the tea to satisfy me; if that’s what I was craving I would not reach for this one. However, maybe I would if I was craving a coconut tea. Although, I have Buttered Rum for that too…
Aww, I love this tea! Sorry to hear you feel differently :(
Congratulations on the interview and I wish you all the best. Job hunting is so difficult and you seem to be going in the right direction! I hope you get it.
Also drank during the new Supernatural episode.
I don’t think I liked this cup as much as my first, and if I recall my first wasn’t too great either? Initial complaints for the first cup were that this is advertised (where I bought it) as a black tea, but it’s about 50/50 black and green – and I dislike green tea.
The cup I most recently had visually looked like a black, but tasted almost entirely like a green: buttery (kinda) with asparagus notes in between the faint black currant notes. And then a bitter, astringent aftertaste. Nope, I don’t think this one is for me.
Thank you VariaTEA for providing me with so much of this one! I enjoyed sipping at it late Tuesday night while watching the newest Supernatural episode! It was sweet and yummy with cream cheese icing and everything.
Also what the frick frack was up with that episode! I watched it with Tre and we were just both in emotional turmoil over all the Garth stuff (he was too cute when he was angry/all wolfy) and then the fucking ending! AUIegdpISFCNBPdisgv! Plus of course Norse Mythology, which I love!
While I was out yesterday afternoon I may have went birthday card shopping and picked VariaTEA up a birthday card. Nothing expensive because I’m broke as balls, but still…
God, I was SO bored without my computer, and then I think Tre noticed how mopey I was and offered to let me watch the new episode with him. It took me all day yesterday to remember I have Netflix on my 3DS, so I started watching Archer.
Haha Archer. I watched some of that but then ended up rewatching supernatural instead :P. Yay for Tre letting you watch together!
Have you guys seen Bob’s Burgers? Bob is voiced by Archer which is freaking hilarious. Also S3 of Archer was pretty great.
I have an insane obsession with burgers. I have said this about many things I realize but burgers is definitely number one. My friends have even called me Burger More and typically give me Burger themed gifts. In fact when my friends talk about their favourite foods they call it “their burger” so I can grasp how much they like it. With all that said, I have never actually seen Bob’s Burgers which is a bit of a shame I think.
I’ve seen a few episodes – totally didn’t make the voice actor connection, though. Now when I watch tonight after Tre’s claimed his laptop back I imagine that’s all I’ll be thinking about :C
Burger’s Priest? Where the heck is that?
We found a good burger place on Yonge – Golden Star? Pretty good!
And watch it! If you like Archer. you might like it. The kids in that show are what make it so hilarious.
And sorry Roswell – that can be a little… disconcerting.
There is a few downtown but I go to one up Yonge past York Mills. It is more expensive than Golden Star but so amazingly delicious. Plus they have a secret menu on their website with special burgers that are not listed in store and they act like they don’t know what you are talking about if you don’t name what you want. It is quite fun. I like the Priest burger or the Pope burger which is their regular burger and vegetarian option. So good!
Backlog continues…
Tuesday evening, but I let it get cold before drinking it. Surprisingly, it still tasted relatively good: I wouldn’t have really thought about drinking cold. Also, it was extra peppery in the aftertaste. I think that’s because I’m nearing the end of the sample back and now it’s inevitable that all the peppercorns I was avoiding getting too much of (I don’t mind them, but don’t want a ton) are sitting there waiting for me.
Someone keeps talking about this and making it sound good, and I just realized it’s you! But I’ll have to snag a sample of this I think for my next order. That order which will probably be failry soon as I’m going through my Mulberry White like nobody’s business.
:D
Sil, I like to imagine you just having a room filled with this delicious tea given you helped create it and all.
