76 Tasting Notes
Dark oolong tea, with odd fruit flavours!
I like the fig in this tea, its rather refreshing and peculiar at the same time. From smelling, the scent is really quite strong and perfumed, it looked like a good jumble of things together and i like oolong teas so i gave this a go. This oolong is dark, one of the darker ones I’ve had. I normally like the lighter oolong teas but this was an interesting experiment for me i guess. Leaves were dark and rather hard (even after steeping), never had this type of oolong before. It resembled more of a black tea but it just didn’t taste like one.
The taste was all there, though watermelon, honeydew and fig made a rather weird hot melon taste with fig. I was hoping to taste the fig more. Too bad i never tried to make this one iced before i finished the whole bag, not sure if i will go and get more of it. The main thing that killed this tea, is the carrot flakes. I mean c’mon carrot? what? Is it an attempt to create something exotic or rather used as a weight filler? I didn’t like the carrot taste and wished it was left out.
1st steeping was best, second was drinkable just alot less taste and more of the carrot flavour coming through.
Preparation
This tea tastes a lot like lime. Which does make sense as it is called lime bang.
Have to say, that it smells great, kind of a kumquat smell
It has a really strong lime taste, that really hits you when you drink it. The sourness hits pretty fast and you taste some of the apple that’s inside. I don’t really taste the pineapple however just a lime green tea. Yet to try this iced but its pretty alright to drink, very fruity.
From what i can tell, this is a pretty low grade gunpowder tea, it is a bit over-roasted is some places and full of stems and broken leaves. There are whole leafs too and they are of the fairly big variety. There is tons of sediment, and the overall quality of this tea is not that great. Regardless however, it turns out a really nice green colour. The is a ton of lime peel as well but the problem is that the fleshy white side of the peel makes the tea slighty bitter sometimes regardless of steeping temperature.
I find it tastes best, 1st infusion @ 85 deg, then the second one with boiling water.
It wont turn the tea bitter and you will have a smoother tea on the second time around with a hint of sweetness (i’m guessing from the fruit pieces). I tried it with sugar on the first infusion, and i have to say, i prefer it without. I personally find the second infusion to be better than the first one, the lime is still there but the tea is much smoother and less bang, in-your-face taste the lime flavour. I would agree with the comment that says this tastes somewhat of a mojito, just without the mint.
Preparation
A fairly light tasting jasmine green tea,
David’sTea claims this is “premium”. Well, it’s not. I’ll be honest, this tastes very much like a typical grocery store jasmine tea found in China, infact i’ve had many that tasted just about the same, just a whole lot cheaper than $7/50g. It doesn’t mean this is a bad tea, I had run out of China jasmine green tea, so i figure heck why not, lets see if this is anything special. It’s fairly decent as a jasmine tea, but we’ll leave it at that.
Don’t use boiling water on this one, the bitterness comes out, otherwise it’s still a very enjoyable tea to drink. It’s floral, its light, it’s what its supposed to be.
Preparation
This is an interesting blend and a rather spicy tea, and a nice chai blend.
It’s better hot on a cold day and isn’t something i would drink as a daily tea. It’s great in the moment, and you’ll easily forget this is a rooibos tea. The coconut certainly helps bring all the spice together. I would drink this from time to time, it sounds like it would go great in a latte too.
Preparation
This tea is simply odd, I don’t taste the chocolate but a medley of confusing tastes put together. I simply didn’t like it hot or cold…
It just tastes confusing, and its a taste that doesn’t really appeal too much to my taste buds. I find it funny that it’s called a spicy chocolate rooibos tea because i don’t taste the chocolate and i certainly don’t taste the spiciness. It’s also rather odd that there are bits of apple and banana thrown in because I’m not sure if i ever used spicy and fruit in the same sentence before.
Preparation
Pretty amazing.
I have to say, this tea really doesn’t taste like creme brulee, but whatever, it’s very enjoyable and drinkable. Rooibos tea’s are generally slightly sweet and this is no exception, the green rooibos goes well with the camamel-ish flavour. I can’t pinpoint exactly what it tastes like, but its quite something. The flower petals also add a nice touch. It just smells very sweet and creamy.
Sweet, very enjoyable as a desert tea, or when i don’t feel like having any caffiene. I normally steep it with a bit more than the recommended amount (something i do with all rooibos teas), good for about 2 infusions, best when it is hot.
Preparation
Says “use fresh boiling water”…
Pretty intense jasmine flavour which i like. Kind of rough tasting though, and can be a bit too bitter if steeped for too long. Decent teabag jasmine tea for the price however.
Sri Lanka jasmine tea is something out of the ordinary too, very floral.
