57 Tasting Notes
Hm.. Kind of bought this on an impulse on a shopping trip with my grandmother yesterday. They were selling various bags of this tea company in a little tea/coffee shop. At $6.95 for 85g I thought it was a good deal, and the flavour was nothing like I already have. When I first smelled the dry leaf I thought it was really weird. At first I couldn’t identify it, but then I realized.. Play Dough. Yes, Play Dough, this is what this tea smells like to me. Honestly the smell of a tea can pretty much make it or break it for me, really. Though the taste was completely different than I was expecting. It was quite good, mostly a coconut flavour, but smooth and creamy, with a hint of the lime. Though in my very last sip, the Play Dough came to mind again and kind of ruined it for me. I’m not sure how I’ll get through 85g of this.. we’ll see!
Another tea that I picked up on sale 50% off yesterday. It smelled delicious in store, and when I got it home last night and brewed a cup, I remembered that I had received this in a gift set last Christmas, though I think it was just a herbal blend, while this claims to be a white tea, nevertheless, they tasted exactly the same. I’ve decided that I simply can’t stand hibiscus unsweetened. Sweetened, I can handle it. Though I think I added a bit too much honey, it was still enjoyable.
Brewed a cup earlier today. I noticed what others said about the sediment and oils, but neither really bother me much. This was pleasant, yet underwhelming; definitely reminded me of fall. I got 50g at 50% kind of on impulse. I still much prefer my Pumpkin Chai from David’s but this is nice.
Hm, this was an interesting one for me. I got this one in a very pretty tin from my stepmom for Christmas. It seems like there’s a lot in there, maybe 100g. The smell was downright nauseating when I first smelled it for some reason, though it was quite early in the morning. It smelled very artificial, and sickeningly sweet. Despite the bad first impression, I brewed a cup. It tastes very nutty, which was the last thing I expected. It is a little dull for my taste, especially considering all that it has going on. I’m sure I’ll have this sitting around for a while; perhaps preparing it as a latte might make it better.
Tried this again tonight in a smaller mug and it really made a difference. I think I put too little tea in last night, it’s much stronger this time. I really quite like it. And though I enjoy rooibos it doesn’t have that rooibos-y, woody taste, which is refreshing.
