I have been looking for a Scottish Breakfast Tea at the stores here ever since I heard that they were quite strong, so I was happy to find this one at Fresh Market yesterday. This one didn’t disappoint, nice strength and malty, just what I want first thing in the morning. It has a nice bitter kick to it too, not too bitter so that it ruins the tea.

Wow, this is a strong one. I took Anlina’s advice and stuck to a 3 minute steep. It was very malty and a little bit bitter…decent tea. It wasn’t quite as smooth as I’d like, but a shorter steep time may help with that a little.

I’m not much of an herbal tea drinker, but I like vanilla, and I bought a couple boxes of this a while ago. I can’t taste much vanilla…quite a bit of spearmint flavor…it’s not bad, I’m just not that into spearmint. The flavors do blend fairly well together with the chamomile.

This tea is malty like other Assams, but has an interesting mix of sweet and bitter. The sweet flavor is pretty understated though, or maybe I steeped it too long, and the bitter taste became more dominant…it’s a nice bitter, the kind I like from an Assam. I steeped it for 4 minutes; they recommend 4-5 minutes on the sample bag. However, I find that Teabox overestimates steep times for most of their teas. Pretty good tea…I look forward to a second steep after the gym.

I thought this was pretty decent as well….enough so that I bought 100g at the big sale. :)

Awesome! I think I might buy 100g too…very nice tea! How long do you usually steep it?

I was very surprised by this tea, it was nothing like the last Nilgiri I tried. The color was very light, and the scent was floral. The flavor was kind of muscatel and earthy…tasted a lot like a Darjeeling tea to me, with a little sweetness as well. Nilgiri teas are definitely more diverse than I thought! Thanks for the sample, donkeytiara!

You are very welcome! It was one of those fascinating teas that I wish everyone could try so that they could know what Nilgiris can be! Glad you enjoyed it!

Mike

It definitely makes me want to explore Nilgiri teas more! Overall, it definitely seems like one of the more underrated kinds of tea!

drank Irish Breakfast by Trader Joe's

I have to say, I was a little too harsh on this one last time. It’s not a great tea, but it’s not bad. I had it today, I’m kind of neutral about the taste. It’s fairly plain, but the strength is good. It definitely fills the need if you want some caffeine. I gave this a 60 before, but I’m bumping it up to 70 since I kind of enjoyed it today…I wouldn’t recommend it, but I’ll drink it once or twice a week until I finish the 80 bags.

I was out yesterday and in the mood for some iced tea, so I grabbed this one. It’s actually really good. Despite not having any sugar or artificial sweeteners, it has a definite sweetness to it. I’m not sure of the source of the green tea, or the sweetness, but it was very enjoyable. I haven’t had many bottled teas or iced green teas, so I wasn’t sure what to expect…it was a lot better than I expected!

drank Matcha Super Green by Rishi Tea

I love Japanese green tea so much. When I saw this in the store earlier today, I immediately went on this site, and went through with the purchase after reading the reviews. I’ve had a lot of sencha and gyokuro, but, believe it or not, this is my first matcha experience. The sencha grassiness is there, but it seems as if the matcha may smooth the tea out a bit, as it doesn’t have the usual sencha bite. It’s not sweet like a gyokuro, just kind of a smoother, thicker sencha. I like it a lot. I think I’m going to go back and buy more tomorrow…I can see myself drinking this one often when I’m looking for the convenience of a bag…or sachet.

I didn’t care for this tea at first, but I’m starting to like it more as I drink more and more black teas. I can taste the Assam in this, but I’d prefer it to be more dominant. It’s strong and malty, but doesn’t quite have the bite of an Irish Breakfast. This one will probably grow on me, but I think I’ll prefer their Irish Breakfast; apparently that one is milder, not exactly what I want, but I’ll buy some to compare.

I’m a tea novice, and I’m loving my introduction to the World of Tea. I started getting into tea about 4 years ago when I lived in Brooklyn, NY. At first, I stayed with green teas, and took black teas completely for granted. However, in the last couple years I have enthusiastically added them to my daily routine. I love strong Assam black teas in the morning, and Japanese green teas in the afternoon, especially matcha and gyokuro. I have recently become a big fan of Keemuns. I’m looking forward to learning about new teas on this site and talking to other tea lovers!

As far as ratings go, don’t trust me. I’m a high rater, and I’m easily impressed. If I rate a tea lower than 70 (which is going to happen rarely, it seems), I probably will not drink that tea again. I will splurge for some teas at times, but I love a bargain, so you will often see me celebrating under-appreciated everyday teas.
