drank Kenyan Tinderet by DAVIDsTEA

I will finally live near a DAVIDsTEA! I picked this one up (and 3 others) while I was up in Connecticut looking for an apartment. I love this tea so much, it’s very malty and pleasantly bitter. I think my excessive Keemun consumption has resulted in a love for medium strength black teas. This tea was by no means weak in strength, but it did not make me jittery and uncomfortable either. I was able to get 3 good steeps out of the tea, and can’t wait to drink more tomorrow and buy a huge stash of it in 3 weeks when I move back to the Northeast.

I hope your move goes smoothly. Looks like you’ll have lots of tea adventures in your future! :)

Mike

Thanks so much! I’m looking forward to it! Definitely, I’ll be at DAVIDsTEA a lot, and they actually sell Harney & Sons on campus! Hope you’re doing well!

I’m so congested that I can’t taste anything today…great opportunity to blow through some bags. :P
Honestly, it really isn’t that bad, but it’s unremarkable enough to use on a day like today.

This is my tea, if I had to pick one. There’s something about it that makes me grab it nearly every day. It’s a little bit sweet, very smooth, with kind of a baked bread taste. I started drinking it about 8 or 9 months ago, and have flown through several 8 oz tins. I always make sure I have this tea in stock!

You can always count on Twinings. This is a nice tea, lighter and less smoky than other gunpowder teas I have tried, but enough smokiness and sweetness to make for a very enjoyable cup. I steeped it 3 times, and probably could have gone at least once more.

I spent quite a lot of time in airports the last couple days, so I was thankful to find this one at Starbucks. I’m easy to please with English Breakfast teas. I like a little stronger than this tea, but it was malty and strong enough to get me going for my 2 day interview. Additionally, when I spilled one cup of it, the adorable barista in Charlotte replaced it for free…excellent customer service. :)

I steeped 3 bags for about 20 oz, and I stand by my initial assessment. It’s not a bad tea, but it’s very plain and average, and somehow the standard Keemun smokiness is nowhere to be found. Does Ceylon and Keemun not mix well, or is it just not mixed well in this case? I am on the fence about whether or not I would recommend this tea. I most definitely purchase worse for a bag in a pinch.

I love Keemuns and I love most Ceylon black teas, so I thought this would be a no-brainer. However, this tea is remarkably plain to me. It’s not bad, but it lacks any Keemun smokiness or sweetness, and it seems rather light to me. I have had probably 13 or 14 Keemuns, and this is the second bagged one I have ever had, so maybe that’s why I’m not a huge fan. I will probably start liking this tea more as I work through my stock, but I don’t foresee keeping it in the regular rotation. I used 2 bags for 16 oz of water. I think I’ll add a third bag next time to see what happens.

I was looking for a very strong bagged tea to get me going when I am on the move, and not able to resteep tea leaves. This tea definitely fit the bill, and I have enjoyed it many times over the last couple weeks. The tea has the malty flavor and slight bite that I like in an Irish Breakfast tea as well.

Hi, welcome back! Long time no see :)

Mike

Hello! Thanks so much! How have you been? I definitely have to get back on here more often! :P

Mookit

I’ve been well, trying to cut down on my tea stock but I just went to DavidsTea today and, well… Came home with 3 new teas.
I’ve taken a couple breaks from Steepster as well, sometimes you just don’t have that much time. But it’s always here when you wanna a come back, which is nice!

Mike

Haha, I’m the same way, I don’t think I’ll ever cut down on my tea stock. :P
Which new teas did you buy?
I get such great ideas for new teas from fellow Steepsters, I love coming back and catching up on the world of tea! :)

Mookit

I got Just Peachy, Quince Charming, and Magic Dragon. All are pretty good, will write reviews on them shortly!

Mike

Awesome! I look forward to reading the reviews! Magic Dragon sounds like one I would like!

I really did not think that green tea would mix well with bergamot, but Ahmad proved me wrong. Both the green tea and the bergamot are light, and the combination works well. It easily held up to 4 steeps, and, like all other Ahmad teas, it is very inexpensive. I’m looking forward to drinking this one regularly.

Thank you to Nicole for this sample! Once again, apparently I am easy to please, because I really like this tea. The flavors are mild, but it is malty and earthy…though less earthy than other Yunnan teas I have tried. I steeped the leaves for 4 minutes the first time, and actually had to run out and left the leaves steeping for 15 minutes the second time. A light but enjoyable tea was produced both times, so it does not seem like you have to worry about oversteeping with this one!

Bio

I’m a tea novice, and I’m loving my introduction to the World of Tea. I started getting into tea about 4 years ago when I lived in Brooklyn, NY. At first, I stayed with green teas, and took black teas completely for granted. However, in the last couple years I have enthusiastically added them to my daily routine. I love strong Assam black teas in the morning, and Japanese green teas in the afternoon, especially matcha and gyokuro. I have recently become a big fan of Keemuns. I’m looking forward to learning about new teas on this site and talking to other tea lovers!

As far as ratings go, don’t trust me. I’m a high rater, and I’m easily impressed. If I rate a tea lower than 70 (which is going to happen rarely, it seems), I probably will not drink that tea again. I will splurge for some teas at times, but I love a bargain, so you will often see me celebrating under-appreciated everyday teas.
