767 Tasting Notes
I ordered this when several teas became available at Whispering Pines again a few weeks ago. I read so many glowing reviews of this tea that I was almost afraid to try it and find I didn’t like it. But I did! This tea was mild, smooth, and slightly sweet on its own. No bitterness whatsoever, no sour notes, no astringency. Just a beautiful dessert tea that I look forward to drinking again. Lovely tea!
Preparation
My package from Whispering Pines arrived today! I decided to try this one immediately as it’s a bit nippy in my apartment and I’m having a HELLISH day at work. This was great as a pick me up. As always, I can’t taste any particular flavor, but this tea strikes me as bold. Some teas seem weak or bitter no matter how you brew them. This one is just right, with a bit of something lingering in the corners of my mouth. I’m going to try a second steep and see how I like that.
ETA: Second steep was even better!
Preparation
Yesterday a friend from Winnipeg gifted me another 100 grams of this tea. Good thing, too, as I am almost out. Brewed up a pot this morning (of the new tin—I couldn’t resist!) and it is just as good as always. I really love this tea. If David’s discontinues it I will go crazy!
I picked up a tin of this at Whole Foods while visiting Minneapolis this weekend. We left around 8:pm and I arrived home in Fargo a little after midnight. The drive was cold. My apartment is cold. I am cold. So once I got a few things unloaded and put away I brewed a cup of this.
I wasn’t actually expecting much. I haven’t heard of Zhena’s, and generally I’m not a fan of bags in tins, but I wanted to buy a souvenir tea, and this looked like the best I saw on the shelf. This tea, however, is enjoyable. First of all, it’s warming, and not just because the temperature is hot. The spices are warming. It makes me feel cozy to hold the mug and sip this tea while waiting for the heat to come on. I won’t buy this one again, but i’ll enjoy it while it lasts.
Preparation
Still one of my very most favorite teas! I woke up with a headache, and it’s held on all day. Thought of opening a new tea to try tonight, but decided to go with one I know I like. Sort of like spending time with an old friend that you don’t have to mind your Ps and Qs for.
I got a cup of this as a freebie in the store last time I was up in Winnipeg. I sat out in the mall and sipped it, really enjoying and wishing I would have bought a bit of it. So I ordered 50 grams of it on my last order. I just brewed a cup and I’m disappointed that I don’t like it better. It tastes awfully musty to me. Pu’erh often is musty. I don’t remember it being so musty. In the mall it was warm and cinnamon-y and perfectly lovely. I’m not going to rate it this time. I’m going to brew another cup in a few days and steep it for less time. Hopefully I’ll enjoy it more next time. If not, I may need to find a new home for this.
Flavors: Musty
Preparation
Ack! I went to the cupboard just now to make a pot of Glitter & Gold and saw I am almost out of it! This is wrong. I am heading up to the Peg on January 30. I’ll add this to my “must buy” list for a stop at David’s.
I like the taste of this tea. It’s mildly sweet, with no harsh after taste or bitterness.
Preparation
I received a sample packet of this with my last order from David’s. This one really isn’t for me. It has a weird after taste. Since I can’t actually taste, I can’t tell you what it is. But I do not like it. I think I’ll brew up a pot of an old favorite like Glitter & Gold or Cranberry Pear to take the taste out of my mouth.
Mind you, someone who can taste might adore this tea. When you read my tasting notes, you should keep in mind that there may be subtler flavors that round a tea out that I am missing.
I love being able to buy 10g samples in store. I have saved myself so much money not buying large quantities of teas that are not for me. It’s too bad they don’t offer sample sizes on their website.
This came in my Tea Forte Advent Calendar. I enjoyed it. Since I don’t have a sense of smell, I don’t taste much. My enjoyment of a tea comes from a smooth flavor. I can taste if something is sour or bitter, and for me, those are absolute deal breakers. I didn’t get either of those flavors from this tea. I won’t go out and buy a supply of it to keep on hand, but if it came in a gift I wouldn’t re-gift it either :)
