Brewed a Gallon of this and put it on ice. Best idea ever…. it make me happy and proud to say that i am7 months free of soda today and it’s all thanks to tea…
id also like to shout to a few steepster pals that helped me through my mind numbing, Nine Dragon Golden Needles ordeal yesterday. sad stuff…. thanks guys
Preparation
So… my 8 month old daughter had me up until about… ah i don’t know, FIVE am… kinda sucks but a rather great time to enjoy a warm cup of tea. i always reach for my nine dragon golden needles when i need to cal my nerves. However, as of lately i am almost afraid to drink anymore of it. I got on the teavana website to order more and, much to my surprise, ITS NOT ON THE WEBSITE ANYMORE… terror ran through every inch of me. So without further ado the question of the night: Does: A. anyone know if the nine dragon golden needles is discontinued? and B. Does anyone know of a fair replacement for it if, indeed, it is at an end. i don’t like to think this way however i don’t see much of a choice. As well, i am thinking about venturing out. as of thus far, i have only enjoyed teas that can be purchased as you local Wal-mart/ kroger and from my Simi-local Teavana. I was curious upon Adagio and there array of teas…any suggestions? thanks all.

Not positive, but it seems to be discontinued (see other tasting notes). I don’t feel qualified to make recommendations, but look around for Yunnan teas (golden, gold?). Don’t know how Adagio’s Yunnans stack up, so maybe read reviews for choices. Check out Upton Tea Imports also. I’ve had good luck with their flavored teas (so far). I’m a beginner too though : )
Hey, Thanks so much! its an odd thing, my brain is still rapt around this idea that tea is mysterious and hard to understand. I’m starting to come to the conclusion that, ironic though it may be, that it isn;t so hard to understand but it requires a sense of valid logic. It’s all fairly new to me and thats why i joined this website, because i want to learn more and the best way to do that is to do that is to spend time and talk to the people that spend there time and money enjoying this wonderful little leaf. So again i say thank you .
Based on the description of the tea I would suggest the Bai Lin Gongfu from Teavivre.
I support the Bai Lin suggestion, but I will always support a recommendation of Fujian black. :D If you try the Bai Lin and find you like it, also have a go at a Panyang (or Tan Yang), also a Fujian tea and my all-time favourite tea in the world. I get mine from TeaSpring. You could also try the Laoshan Northern Black (I think that’s the name) that Verdant Tea sells. You might enjoy that one as well.
Definitely explore Yunnans though. Cheryl made some good suggestions up there because they have huge selections so it’s a good place to start exploring, and like she says, try to look up some of them here first and see if other people have posted about it and how they describe it.
Ok wonderfriends… got another noobie question for ya. i started a teavivre account and it says i have reward point…. how do you use them and how many do you need?

Each 100 points is worth a dollar off your order! You also sometimes get points after you buy tea if you review your tea on their site. Purchases of tea also garner you some points. There is almost always a tea coupon code. I recently used teavivre10 and it worked. You can always google for those and then give them a try.
It IS sadly discontinued, but if you can get to a Teavana store, they may have some left over from the after Christmas sale. I know the store I work in still has a couple of tins full of it and they’re like 75% off. As a replacement if you’re used to using Teavana, Copper Knot Hongcha is one of my favorites with the same honey undertone. :)
Also, you can get 2oz of Golden Needle along with a few others and other neat stuff in their Into Tea collection. I got mine half off, but even full priced it’s a great deal! I love all of teas and the little tins are great for keeping at the office or in your purse if you’re on the go like me. And it comes with two fabulous tea tumblers!
I like the Nine Dragon Golden Needles Black from Teavana because it not a super black tea “punch to the face.” I was lucky to find my little teavana baggie while going though my moved foodstuffs and almost see this as a gift from god. It is amazing and i truly enjoy is. Amen.
It is nice and aromatic without being fruity or perfumesque. It’s light amber in color, and it is almost as thought its full of life. It has a sweet undertone of honey that truly makes for a wonderful taste and has almost no bitterness what-so-ever. It’s a perfect tea, well… all the time. I like my nine dragon with a little sugar and a couple drops of lemon juice. Makes for a nice relaxing tea in the evening and just enough caffeine to wake me up in the morning.
It is awesome that i found this tea and i’m glad to have a cup tonight. In the meantime… good night everyone.

Decided to go Iced with this tea…. its fantastic. i brewed 1/3 gallon water with 1oz Republic of Tea Ginger Peach Black for 5 minutes and 30 seconds, filled to 1/2 full, mixed 2/3 cup sugar, filled to 4/5 full and chilled for 6 hours. popped a couple icecubes in my glass and went to town. Its like the perfect koolade.

My breakfast tea today was the Ginger Peach Black from The Republic of Tea. Its an interesting tea to begin with because of the ginger. I didn’t really ever think about ginger being in a tea… but really it makes a lot of sense. Ginger has a unique taste that somewhat difficult to explain other than to say that it’s Asian…y. It only works some of the time and only works with some things. for example… this tea is a good morning tea because it has the acid of the peach and the spice form the ginger. it woke me up well and got me thinking. I said “self… Do ya think this would be a good iced tea???” and i replied…“ahh, its worth a try isn’t it.” This iced concoction is currently chilling in my fridge and we shall see how it goes. but over all this is a fantastic tea for a cold, rainy, Ohio morning.

Cha Yen Thai Black is one of my utmost favorite blends of all time. it’s spectacular. its spiced but not spicy, with a nice twist of the star anise and and nutty overtones from the almonds. It’s Perfect…PERFECT I SAY!!!!! i love it. brew it strong, mix with sugar and milk. AHHHHHH…So good.

Then, all of a sudden i found a variation on the norm with hints of creme and Madagascar vanilla to bring out the wonderful mixture with the acid of the bergamot orange. Love it love it loveit

This was a tad different to me but i am not unhappy that i decided to get some. i picked some up in the kenwood mall store in ohio and at the time, the azteca fire was 3.95 for 2 oz. some i figured " what the heck!" and went to town. As i road home with my friend and got my hopes up i continued to sniff the bag. When i got home, it was the first batch on and while it brewed, it smelled fantastic. This, however changed after it was finished. I feel like it lost all kinds of personality when it finished brewed and the taste was mediocre at best. The flavor profile was alright, kinda complex in using peppers, chocolate, and strawberries. i feel like the chocolate was a little overpowering, so much so the you only get a little pepper and really no strawberry at all. After all is said and done, i really do like the azteca fire tea, it’s just not all its cracked up to be.
Congratulations! I am still working on getting rid of my bad habit. Finding things that are good iced/cold is probably where I’ll end up too. One thing I like cold is Stash’s (Organic) Vanilla Honeybush, which I found at Giant Eagle (Kroger/Walmart here doesn’t have it, but maybe some other grocer down that way might…is there a Whole Foods that you can get to?).
