1759 Tasting Notes
The smell of this tea is amazing!! heavenly.
And at first… it tasted great! peachy and floral, oh yes, it was lovely! but as it cooled, some icky jasmine notes came out to play. Not my thing!
I couldn’t finish the cup.
So this one, it seems… is not for me. Oh well. C’est La Vie!
Spicy. Mango… … …
Yep, that is all. No “tea”. Just overly spicy mango.
If you like a serious punch in your food, then this one might be for you.
However, the sample I had… it was so spicy that I couldn’t enjoy the other parts of the flavour. I like some spiciness in my food. In fact, I love me some jerk chicken or Tikka Masala. But those dishes are not ALL about the spicy. They have texture and other flavours.
Seriously, I think this should be labelled a tisane. Was there any camellia in there at all???
It might be interesting to cook with.
Oh boo. I have high hopes for this. I can’t wait for Wednesday to buy all the teas I’m behind on! Mango Diablo, the whole summer collection (minus Swampwater), Buddha’s Blend, Mamma Mia…
The devil mango is going to get you little girl. It will come in the night…wah ha ha….with spicy daggers in the stomach. Because for less money you could have bought dried mango, chopped it up, added hot pepper and put it in a bag. Wah hahahaha!
Kristeleyn: beware of the mango! but I recommend trying it anyhow. I could never resist a tea no matter how horrible it’s said to possibly be :P
Bonnie: ahhhh haunted by the mango!! yes, I really could have made this myself and it would have probably tasted better :/
Daniel Scott: go for it! I look forward to that review :)
Okay so when this was hot… and I mean really hot, I didn’t like it at all. Bleh!
but then I added way to much sugar (for my liking, just to make it ok) and let it cool down… and oh my goodness it’s mulled wine! I can’t believe they made it taste like I am actually drinking wine. I even have the dry-mouth pasties!
I don’t think it’s worth buying again, but I certainly appreciate the experience. I certainly would never turn away a free cuppa…
The hibiscus works perfectly here. One time I really did not mind it.
Ooh! You were lucky enough to get the wine collection! Jealous. By the time I had “discovered” DT, it was unavailable.
If I had tried this tea before the Sweet Temptation from Tsaa… this would have definitely gotten a higher rating from me.
However, ST is superior in so many ways! It requires no additions (either milk or sugar) and has a cleaner, smoother flavour.
This one is a bit to astringent, and rougher around the edges. Also, the flavour is not as deep or complex.
Oh well. sighs It’s pretty good otherwise :)
Longest week ever… ugh. So much going on, so very many many things… one of which has me saddened. (My Aunt-in-law passed away today. Cancer. Oh how I hate that vile word)
So I needed something to calm me down and I wasn’t feeling chamomile.
Also, it gave me the chance to try this tea while un-sick, and guess what it’s more than just a mint tea! ha.
Yep, there is something else in there, the juniper berries I am guessing. They aren’t very strong, and have a sortof woody berry taste. Not bad, really.
Without sugar, it reminded me of your average ayurvedic tea, but with some sweetening the various notes came out a bit more and I found it much more palatable.
Now that the cup is pretty much drained, I can say that it did work. I feel soothed, a little.
Thank you… to whoever sent this to me! Was it* SimplyJen? or NinaVampi?* Hmmmm. I had them in nice n neat piles but they got mixed up when we cleaned out the cupboards a few months ago. oops :/
Anyhow, the tea…
This is interesting. Chocolate is the first note. Light and juicy, not heavy the way I pictured chocolate would be. Behind that is an equally light minty flavour. Somewhat distant compared to the chocolate but that part is nice. I wouldn’t want it overpowering the tea.
However, it did taste a bit plasticky, and I’m not sure why! I’ve seen that in green teas before.
The second steep was better than the first. Much more balanced with the tea flavour, however I found it rather scratchy as well.
Oh and I made a cup (of the first steep) for Dad and he hated it! I was shocked, as he has never, to my knowledge, poured a cup of anything, much less tea, down the drain. I mean, it wasn’t terrible. Really!! and the face he made… well, that was priceless. ha!
Nonetheless, it was a pleasant experience. I’d drink this one again!
ughhhhhhhhh to brain fried to type.
This was my post exam keep-me-awake cuppa. It did a good job for maybe an hour and then faded fast.
As for the tea? it was good. Malty. Rich. Keemum goodness.
Except I was in a big rush (had to be at a picnic in the park!) and didn’t add enough sugar… so with every sip, being as zoned out as I was, this is what flashed into my thoughts: Mmmm this is good. but this is cream, not milk! it’s obscuring the tea flavour. and I should have added a tad more sugar, it could really use a dash more.
Yep… every darn sip! it didn’t help that I’d forgotten to bring distraction materials with me (ie. my post exam brain dump/trashy romance novel)
So I shan’t rate this now, as I need to try it again with fair circumstances.
Goodnight world…
My study aid for the afternoon. Deeeelicous!
See previous notes for details. Angel food cake anyone?
Hey I wanted to get a sample of this but am not sure what to look for:
Douji “Hong Da Dou”
or
2011 Douji “Hong Shang Dou”
Or are the one and the same?
Sorry just wanted to look for the right thing :)
Azzrian: Humm, I’m not sure! This was a free sample sent to me by the vendor… Maybe if you email him he will know? Sorry I can’t be more help!
Bonnie: Nope nope, I be takin’ no chances today! slurrrrrrrrp!
LOL hey I commented on that same thing to Mum!! I can’t recall what my ditty was but it went something like Hong Da Dou be do be doooo… but she just looked at me like I was craaaazy. Which I am of course :P
This. is. home.
I’ve been sampling so many new teas lately that I was forgetting my tea roots! so I decided to take a jaunt down memory lane and look what I found :)
Oh man does this ever hit home for me. I was worried that it might be too old, as I believe it’s been in my cupboard forgotten for almost a year now… but it’s as good as ever! Thank goodness!
Malty and a bit floral this time, with just the right amount of boldness and astringency.
Funny, even with the super tasty teas I’ve had, none of them gave me tea chi. With this one, well let’s just say I am in a very happy place. I really needed my chi today!!
Now off to study…
Not terrible!! finally. Ugh!
Then again, not great either. I don’t appreciate the odd combo of citrus/cinnamon and ginger. Not in my food, or my tea apparently! and the cinnamon was a tad spicy. Nonethelss… Made as a latte, this was till better than I expected so I’m happy as I can be with it.
The orange part was really nice, I quite liked that… which is probably what redeemed my cup :)
Still, the rest of this sample will go to Dad. He’s like Mikey, he’ll drink almost anything I put in front of him! (mind you he can’t tell the difference between a black and an oolong but I am working on it!)
There’s only enough for one cup more anyhow.
Hey, both of us had bleh’s…it was a bleh party day! Yuck! Maybe we have become Tea Diva Brat Princesses!
lol!!
Bonnie, it’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to! :P
Me too!
today was much better. I hope yours was to Bonnie!!
