1759 Tasting Notes

Intense! I guess the newest version of this got a little extra flavour. It’s almost overwhelming in scent when you open the packet. Mango bubblegum.
Steeped, the roasted notes come out to play. I definitely see what people mean by guayasa or yerba mate, in the other reviews. Though if I hadn’t been told it was mango I’d have guessed apricot.
There is also a creamy element in here that I wasn’t expecting. Almost buttery in texture.
Not something I’d keep in the cupboard myself as I’m not a huge fan of guayasa. The complexity of this appeals to me, so I’d never turn down a cuppa :P

I didn’t know one could drink the forest. So good.
It’s been awhile since I had a cuppa where the first sip just makes me go mmmmm. Based on that alone I’m inclined to rate this at 90. It may just well become one o those blends I hoard for eons an indulge on special occasions, only to find it’s gone stale. Unfortunately, it’s fallen somewhat flat and I’m sipping it out of a plastic cup as I’m in a different office today. Bah.
Anyhow. This is really well blended. Will have to try it at home again soon.

I’m grabbing some of this if the lady who runs the shop is able to attend our meeting. Well, her daughter is the real brains… but I think she’s still in highschool or just graduated. I love supporting local businesses, even better when it’s quality!
I sampled this tea at the festival. Juicy and ripe peach notes and just the right amount of sweetness. Highly impressed. They have an icewine tea as well. I haven’t tried it but I am a serious sucker for icewine tea!

Black tea and maple blended perfectly together. Made it through just one steep so I’m not gonna rate it yet. However… all the maple teas I’ve had so far haven’t ever really captured the essence of what I imagine a maple tea to be, or even to create a true maple flavour that balances with the tea. This tea? Balance, flavour, and depth! I’m impressed.

Evol Ving Ness

Is this another one from the tea fest? I am not familiar with this blender.

Arby

You had me at maple. I’m adding this to my wishlist. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Evol Ving Ness

They also have a nice lineup of other things. Thanks for bringing them to my attention. I see an order in my future.

Indigobloom

@Evol – yes, Canadian! I should drink it while watching the Olympics :P
They might be at the next tea guild meeting. There was one blend I thought about asking her to bring.

Evol Ving Ness

ooooh, which blend was that?

Evol Ving Ness

And do they sell tea at the meetings or just sample?

Indigobloom

This one. I sampled it at the festival. Juicy peach notes! https://www.mistymountaintea.com/collections/white-tea/products/moon-rabbit

Indigobloom

They don’t really sell, I just knew that they would sell out of that one and so told her that I really wanted it… yet didn’t want to cost them a sale. So if they could bring it to the next meeting, I’d grab it then

Indigobloom

That said, I don’t think it would be trouble to add anything on!

Evol Ving Ness

Thank you. This is something I would really like to support.

Indigobloom

We are totally on the same page!
Here’s the ice wine one. https://www.mistymountaintea.com/products/dionysus

This one definitely does better when cooled. Notes of stone fruit and perhaps a bit of corn or breadiness. Lingering honey orchid aftertaste.
When hot, it tastes thinner, but also more crisp and delicate. Definitely digging my purchase! I gave a tubmbler’s worth of leaves (two cups?) to a friend… she loves it as well, and even wants to one day put in an online order for more :)
Also, this tea confused her. Was it black? was it oolong? I don’t think she’s ever had a proper darj before, let alone a first flush. Or a psuedo oolong. Love seeing those first time moments hehe

On another note, does anyone have experience with myofascial massage? (not stretching, that is similar but different).

Evol Ving Ness

Isn’t that an aspect of every massage? It seems to me that my therapists incorporate that into their treatments rather than do the full time on that. And yes, no complaints.

Indigobloom

it can be. but I needed someone who really knows how fascia works. It got messed up because my physiotherapist from ages ago gave me terrible advice – I ended up sedentary and it got all bound up

Evol Ving Ness

My people are just near your chiropractor. Happy to pass the info along to you. I’ve been going there for years.

Indigobloom

I went with a guy around yonge and Eg. Not far from the chiro but then not all that close. Probably not the same one though. What’s the place called? thanks @Evol <3

Seriously yummy. At work so must post a proper review soon. I’m so happy to have a 1st flush in my cupboard again!

I tried this as a sample in store. It tastes just the way I imagine lemon furniture polish would. Bleh.

Indigobloom

yup yup. Glad it was only a sample :P

I can’t recall if this was the matcha I ordered this morning, though I think it was? My free cup for not reaching 100 points. Serendipity, considering a matcha cup costs more than just a regular tea. Yay.
I added a bit of milk and honey, since I’m sick and though I tend not to sweeten my matcha, it does pair nicely with the bee goodness. The cuppa was really good. Super creamy and just yummy. It reminds me of a really well crafted piece of chocolate. Yanno the ones that are $5 for two bites. I’d want to grab some for home but I have so much already that it would be a waste. Bah.
Anyhow. I’m faring tons better today despite having only 5 hours sleep. I guess I’m kicking this cold! or maybe the chlorophyll tea feels are ramping me up haha.

Evol Ving Ness

Yay for the cold being on its way!

Haven’t had matcha for ages. Maybe it is time.

I only get a free tea of the day. I am waiting for something that is tolerable.

Indigobloom

Indeed! I still need that nap but it isn’t the same bone-tiredness anymore.
This was a free tea because I didn’t quite reach the 100 milestone before the last point redemption deadline. I wonder if they have different rules for different promotional offers

Evol Ving Ness

They must. I did get my FS 50 gram pouch plus a free tea of the day which is currently on hold until the TOTD is something I’d like to drink.

Indigobloom

Hmmm. Curious! I had no designs on using my free tea until the girl asked me if I wanted to. Perhaps she took pity on my poor toxic self haha

Evol Ving Ness

Awww. Maybe the deal is a tea of your choice as a consolation prize for no free tea leaf because at the end of the year, all your points disappear. If you get free tea because you’ve spent over 100 dollars, then your remaining points are converted into free tea of the day. I am guessing.

Indigobloom

they said my points were still there though. It was a consolation for not getting to 100 points for some reason

Evol Ving Ness

Oh, that’s good news. Maybe there has been public outcry since they changed the system. I know that I have spent very little money there since they decided to diminish the frequent steeper benefits (and increase the stevia and imitation flavours).

Indigobloom

I’m wondering if it is because I was “close” to 100 points. Maybe you need 90 – 100. I can’t see them giving out matcha for just 10 points or less. Not sure what the threshold would be

Kittenna

Free TOTD if you have 1-49 points, free tea of your choice if you have 50-99. This is after each 100pts is converted into 50g tea. :)

drank Probiotea by DAVIDsTEA
1759 tasting notes

I had a seriously awful day yesterday. Today, while not much better, is calmer and less chaotic.
The rant – I’ve been weathering the flu, my new boss started working on Tuesday, and we were short staffed. Students poured through the door en masse, meetings were booked in our rooms improperly and faculty weren’t happy with us. The dividing wall in our presentation space is broken so being down a room meant we were double booked in some cases. and then a complaint was submitted by who I assume is a student at the school, after they deemed us unfit public servants having witnessed us attempting to navigate the winds. It was so busy that I didn’t have an opportunity to eat lunch until 4pm, and even then it was while I discussed updates with a colleague and my interim boss(not new boss). Sighs.
Honestly, we are extremely short staffed or else I would have been at home clinging to my bed. What a great way to make a fabulous first impression on the guy who decides whether my contract is renewed in April. Ha!
When I arrived home, my driveway had frozen over like a skating rink. and I had a blowout argument with a friend over text. She’s on vacation out of country or else I’d have called to sort it out. She’s a colleague who I’ll see on a daily basis in a few weeks.
Ugh. Ok. I’m done.
This tea? I needed something cleansing and healthy. and caffeine free. On my way home from work. Just what I needed to keep my company during the train ride.
In terms of a rating, I really have no opinion on it. It tasted rather herbaceous with a nice punch of licorice. A mild background of mint, which I had hoped would be stronger. It could be that this sickness of mine muted things. The cinnamon was there as well, neither good nor bad in that moment. Some honey was added as well. I figured this hack cough of mine needed some.
I’m not in a rush to run out and buy this one based on taste. If I knew that the probiotics contained within were of a useful variety, then perhaps I’d be more excited.
It’s ok. I’m glad to have tried a cup and that it was there for me in my hour of need!

Rosehips

Eeek, what a day. I hope things even out soon.

Evol Ving Ness

Truly the day from hell. Good on you for going in anyway. You deserve a medal for that and other high accolades. Hope you feel much much better soon.

Indigobloom

@Rosehips and @Evol VIng Ness
Thank you! I generally get a last wind right about this time. So at the moment I feel pretty ok! Will pay for not already being asleep tomorrow methinks…

drank Xin Gong Yi by Citizen Tea

Sipdown!
I’m still not sure what this tea was supposed to taste like. It did a lot better in gong fu steeping but other than a lot of mineral notes and very light vegetal notes, I’m not sure what to think. In my fourth infusion, there is a slight oceanic or seaweed influence.
Throughout the infusions I also had moments when I thought some sort of stone fruit was hanging about, though it never felt like any stone fruit I could identify, or rather it was more of a combination of stone fruits. I’d say apricot married with plum, perhaps. And the vegetal aspect? My best guess is watercress. But don’t take my word for it. I’ve been down with the flu so it could be that my palate is still off a tad.
Anyhow. Merry Christmas to all the Orthodox tea lovers out there! <3

Profile

Bio

Let’s see… I’m a tea and workout fanatic, I work in HR, and most of my friends consider me to be an egg. White on the outside, Asian on the inside :)
-from philosophy to food, I love it all
Otherwise, what you see is what you get! I can be very straightforward and yet shy.

Also, I’ve started taking tea sommelier classes and it is an absolute blast! Well, so far I’ve only finished the first out of eight courses, but I am really looking forward to the next one.

Anyhow, if your curious as to how I rate things, this is how I work…

0-25
Like eating dirt, or some other unsanitary indelicacy that mentioning in my profile here would likely get me banned.
I don’t think I’ve found cause to banish a tea to the wasteland yet though so who knows what it’d inspire ;P

25-50
You know that expression “Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater”? I imagine drinking that water would be terrible enough to warrant this rating!
I’d never make my enemy drink this, but perhaps I’d throw it at them. Good thing I don’t have any enemies!

50-70
This is “tea”?? I tried finishing the cup… but my body rejected it. There may be others who enjoy this tea, but it’s beyond me!

70-80
I tried liking it, and I can almost get there! I certainly don’t hate it, but something is holding me back. Allergies? Men in white suits? who knows… certainly not me!

80-90
Lovely tea! Not my all time fave but close. I likely wouldn’t repurchase, but may decide to based on many factors: price, accessibility, whether it fills a “tea gap”, medicinal applications, and how often I crave it.
Every once in awhile I find the sweet spot that bumps these up to 90+. Those are the days I need to buy a lotto ticket!

90-95
Sweet Camellia! this is realllly good tea! Don’t talk to me until I’ve finished my cup…

95-100
Tea of the gods. I would do anything to get my hands on more of this liquid gold!
