This is review number 1,
I brewed this with a lot of leaf and a fairly short steep as I usually do when trying a new red tea.
I was surprised how much like a darjeeling this tasted! Muscatel notes, not much sweetness, a little astringent, a little bitter (balanced bitterness, not unpleasant).
A little like an oak barrel, a bit of ash.
Overall underwhelming for me, however my partner likes it.
Flavors: Ash, Astringent, Muscatel, Oak
Preparation
Kind of like a milder chai, and with some other random spices… but I liked! I had a Christmas Tea I loved from last year from another company (I can’t remember it off hand at the moment), and that one will always be near and dear to me, but this is not a bad substitute! Pretty brilliant with some milk!
Another good cup! It’s just your basic chai, but I loved the cinnamon and spice that came out of this one – and the cardamom, mmm. I steeped it probably less than I should have, so it wasn’t as strong as I would have liked it, but this was a delicious treat on a chilly afternoon. Not the best chai I’ve had, but for the price, this one is pretty good.
Contrary to the other reviews… I actually like this one, haha. I didn’t really get any of the burnt taste – maybe the amount of milk I had in it cancelled it out? Not my favourite dessert tea around, but I think I would get this one again. I definitely liked the black tea base in this as opposed to the rooibos (though the DT version of this is also pretty good).
Another bold choice! Definitely don’t over steep this one, haha. I enjoyed this cup, but I don’t think this is a tea I’d get again. There was just something… off, maybe, about the taste? Something added that I didn’t 100 like? Whatever it is, there will be other black blends that I will go to before having this one again, though I’m not sorry I tried this one.
Hmm. This is a weird one. It’s a decent cup of black tea, but the vanilla wasn’t what I was expecting – I’ve had plenty of vanilla-flavoured teas over the years, so I know what to look for. Maybe it needed something else to bring the taste to the forefront? I added milk, and that didn’t really help, either. I still have some more of this one, so I’ll maybe make it another way and see if my rating changes any.
Rooibos and me have a very complicated relationship, LOL. I picked this sample because of the raspberry, and I like vanilla too, so I thought this should work! I definitely taste raspberry (along with the sometimes-questionable rooibos base, haha, I think I may have steeped it too long), but not really on the vanilla. Boo, as I was looking forward to that. All in all, not a bad tea, but watch the steeping time and don’t expect any vanilla. Pity that’s in the name!
