This (among other 52teas) just came in the mail – WOO HOO!!!

Started out with this one since I had the most of them. Brewed this as originally directed: one 2-quart tea sack in 16 oz (2 cups) boiling water for 3 minutes. Shook in about a third of a cup of sugar and diluted with another 2 cups worth of cool water and ice. This is so tasty! I love the bubble gum flavor! It’s a great balance of flavoring to tea.

I did resteep this in 1 cup of boiling water for about 4 minutes. Added in a little more than an eighth cup of sugar and diluted with another cup of icey cold water. It resteeps very well, just as Frank has said! Quite a deal if resteeped!

I’m keeping this in my cupboard, mostly for the summer months. Looking forward to having the husband try this out too!

Oh, this is my 400th tasting note! Hooray!

I wanted to log this badly so sorry Frank, if you need to give it a legit description that isn’t just me copying the Cotton Candy one and changing it to bubblegum, lol

I followed the directions on the package for steeping the whole bag in 2 cups of water then pouring it into a pitcher and adding enough water to get it to 2 quarts. I love the packaging! I was surprised at the size of the bag in there.

At first I thought I might have let it steep a little too long because I had to heat up my jams to get them to actually set and of course both the water and the jam was ready at the same time. I let it cool off a bit more while I made some blueberry jam for something different (I am so mad, I have used the entire jar of pectin I bought. It said it’d make 22 jars. I’ve made 16! Now I need more to finish off the peaches!)

I tried it without agave at first, and my fears about oversteeping were negated; but it just wasn’t bubblegum sweet enough. Since I normally can’t chew gum without my jaw acting up, I love that bright pink, super sweet stuff. After agave, it was PERFECT. That is exactly what it tastes like if it included black tea. The base here is nice, because it lets the flavor shine through without being too astringent or anything else. But at the same time you know you’re drinking black tea. Awesome balance.

I’m glad I already ordered more of these, and I saved the bag to resteep again later on!

Bonnie Congratulations! Yep, always celebrate those milestones with bubblegum!

Finished adding the rest of the Southern Boy Teas line up to Steepster. Sorry for the delay. I always enjoy reading your reviews! Congrats on 400 tasting notes!

Southern Boy Teas

BTW, I’m glad you liked the packaging. I think next time we’re going to use some bags that are just a little bigger. It was just a bit of a squeeze to get those teabags in there. LOL. We made up 64 of each of the eight varieteas to start. I thought we would never get finished. :)

momo

Thank you everyone! Your comments made my day :D

I can imagine it was a bit difficult! I liked that it was nice and compact, without ever thinking “this has to make enough tea for a pitcher.” Easy to open, and then surprise, this whole bag fit in there!

I am already almost through half the pitcher because it’s that good ahhh.

Azzrian

CONGRATS!!! WOO HOO! I will nab some of this tea too!

SimplyJenW

Congrats to you, Amanda! I just got some of this today and can’t wait to try it.

It’s too hot here today which gives me a chance to try this iced tea. I decided to cold steep it to see if more bubblegum flavour comes out as opposed to the black base which I think would if it was boiled.

It’s been in the fridge for roughly 5 hours and has changed to a muggy brown colour so it looks finished to me. It has a sweet and fruity scent, not quite bubblegum original but maybe pass as a tutti fruity bubblegum.

Flavour is fresh and sweet with delicate fruit tones and something I can’t quite make out. Maybe some sort of flower like violet? Like Parma Violet sweets. Happy with the results from the cold steep and would probably do the same again if I bought another one.

I never really was a Neapolitan ice cream kinda girl, I am a plain jane vanilla kinda girl. But I thought I would give this one a try. It sounded delicious. But this is not my most favorite SBT.

The initial smell on opening the package was of artificial chemical chocolate. But after a few minutes, once I took a step back and smelled, it did smell like Neapolitan ice cream, with the chocolate/strawberry/vanilla combo of flavours.

I brewed as per the directions on the package.

The initial taste was again of that artificial chemical chocolate. I added a few tsp of sugar, then it did have more of a Neapolitan taste. On initial sip, I get chocolate, and then immediately underneath that, I can taste strawberry. I had to wait a while before I got the slightest hint of vanilla. This iced tea reminds me of a cheaper Neapolitan ice cream that you buy in a box (not a pail), and its been in the freezer for a while.

Overall, it still makes a good iced tea. Just not my cup of tea.

This is today’s iced tea. I first tried this one last year, I think, and I enjoyed it so much I picked up another bag pretty much straight off. It’s as good as I remember – I’m still surprised by how accurately this one reflects the flavour of bubblegum! I mean, it’s tea. It’s also sweet, mildly fruity, with that inimitable “bubblegum” flavour that’s difficult to describe accurately in any other way. In short, a delicious treat on a humid work day. I’ll definitely be repurchasing this one in future.

Today’s iced tea choice! I ordered some more SBTs over the weekend, so I don’t feel so guilty about using these up so quickly anymore. I’ve limited myself to one litre of this today, though, so I should have some left for tomorrow as well. I just find these teas so easy to drink that I can get through nearly two litres all by myself on a hot day. It’s delicious, but pretty extravagant! I want these to last!

The flavouring here is quite subtle. In terms of strength, it reminds me more of Cotton Candy than of Neapolitan Ice Cream. The bubblegum flavour seems to come out primarily in the aftertaste. I’ll take a sip, and get black tea with a hint of fruitiness, and then I’ll breathe in after swallowing and suddenly be hit with a big smack of flavour. It’s a little odd, but very welcome!

I’d probably never have believed tea could taste of bubblegum if I hadn’t tried this. It just seems such a hard flavour to capture. Frank’s managed it, though! It’s a fun tasting tea, well suited to summer, and very refreshing. I’m still surprised how well the flavours combine with the black tea base, but this is no exception in that regard.

Another stunning iced tea. I know everyone says theirs are the best, but these really are. I could probably drink them forever, and will so long as they’re available to buy!

I know what you mean. I tend to drink the whole batch of this once I make it too. Super delicious!

It’s easy to get hooked on these iced teas. They’re just so flavourful and easy to prepare, there’s really nothing not to love. I’ve tried a couple of other “ice cream” flavoured teas, but this one is still by far the best. This one got the standard SBT brewing treatment from me – 2 mins in a 1/4 litre of boiling water, topped up to 1.8 litres with cold water, and into the fridge overnight. The main flavour I can pick out here is chocolate, followed by a creamy vanilla in the background. The strawberry is a little shy and fleeting, but it’s identifiable in the mid sip most of the time. The three combine beautifully in the aftertaste, to give the full neapolitan effect. Amazing!

This is today’s back to work iced tea. I’m trying to stick to my no-buy, and the choice of this tea is testament to that. I went through my bag of SBTs and picked out this one because I suspect it’s the oldest (except Maple Bacon, which, frankly, I’m terrified of). It’s always tempting to jump straight to the newer teas, but I’m trying to be more systematic about things. I’m also trying really hard not to buy any new tea until I get my cupboard down to a reasonable level (under 50, at least). There’s a long way to go yet, and it’s extremely difficult (with not a few close calls), but I’m succeeding so far.

Anyway, the tea. I’ve had this one before, and it was another SBT that gained a perfect 100 rating from me. It’s still by far the best “ice cream” tea I’ve ever tried, and today’s cup only confirms that my original opinion on this one holds even now. I know my tastes have changed over the last year, so I did wonder what I’d think of this one now, but I’m pleased that it’s something I can still enjoy.

This one got the standard SBT brewing treatment from me (2 mins in a quarter litre of boiling water, topped up to just about 2 litres with cold water, and into the fridge overnight). The main flavour I can pick out this morning is chocolate, followed by a creamy vanilla in the background. The strawberry is a little shy and fleeting, but it’s identifiable in the mid sip most of the time. I’m actually finding it hard not to gulp this one down – it’s so refreshing, and the flavour is absolutely fitting on a warm, just-about-summer day. I have enough with me for two cups, so I’ll drink one this morning and one later this afternoon. One thing I do notice with SBTs is that I get palate fatigue and can’t taste them anymore after a cup or two. Having a gap in between should help with that!

I think this one’s still available, and it comes highly recommended. It’s one I’ll look to repurchase if I allow myself to buy tea again at some point this century.

After my success with the honeybush version over the last couple of evenings, I decided to try the SBT version at work today. I brewed it up last night, following the instructions. 2 cups of boiling water for three minutes, and then top up with cold to make just under 2 litres. Then it went in the fridge overnight, and this morning it came to work with me!

It’s thundery and humid out, so no surprise that it’s far too hot in my reception area. I’m surprised it took me so long to work out that iced black tea is what I’ve been lacking at work every summer. It’s a lot more refreshing than my usual hot tea, and because it’s black I can get my caffeine fix in as well. I’m useless by mid-afternoon, otherwise.

This is the second of the SBTs I’ve tried, and I think I did slightly better this time. The black tea base is still something you can taste, but it seems lighter and less prominent this time. I think maybe I oversteeped my Razzleberry, although I can’t say it really bothered me at the time. By comparison, though, this is more what I was looking for. Something to remember next time I’m brewing one of these — don’t get distracted!

Anyway, as with the honeybush version, this tastes uncannily like actual neapolitan ice cream. It also has the advantage of being reasonably cold this time, so the resemblance is even stronger. I can taste chocolate first, then a creamy vanilla, and then finally strawberry. The three combine beautifully in the aftertaste, to give the full neapolitan effect. Amazing!

Both versions of this are absolute winners with me. I added milk to the honeybush, which I haven’t done here, but I didn’t add sweetner to either. It really doesn’t need it. It’s not sweet, per se, but it tastes of what it’s supposed to, and that’s enough for me. I got one of each available flavour to try with my last order, but I think I’m going to have to stock up again very soon! These are just too good to pass up!

Oh my goodness. This iced tea is heaven! It’s a nice black tea with a smooth, creamy ice cream aftertaste. All of the flavors are present. Chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla :) I’m happy I ordered more!

This is my second try at an iced tea, and I’ve already had almost two pitchers of it. It is wonderful! I am still so amazed that I can like iced tea after so many years of hating it. And this one tastes more like tea than it does like bubblegum. The bubblegum flavor does come through at the end, but it’s faint, in my opinion. Nothing like the Neopolitan which I found to be much more aggressive. I drink from a 16-oz. cup and I add 2 Splenda to the cup before I add the tea. That helps bring out the sweet candy flavor but really, this tastes good without a huge WHAM of bubblegum anyway.

I’ve tried so many times to like iced tea. I’ve bought and given away at least 3 different versions of the Mrs. Tea iced tea maker. I gave up trying for a really long time. Then I realized that I am so slow in drinking my high quality hot tea that by the time I finish it, it’s pretty cold and I still like it. Hmmmmm, maybe it’s the quality and flavor of the tea that makes the difference!

So I bit the bullet and bought some Southern Boy Tea, the Neopolitan flavor. I wanted to try many other flavors but they were out of most of them. Boo. I brewed the bag in 16 oz. boiling water for exactly 3 minutes, poured it into a pitcher, and added water to make 2 quarts. Then I filled my 16-oz. cup with ice cubes and three Splenda and poured the tea in. Wow! It’s so good! I don’t even mind that it’s not carbonated! Usually that’s the first thing that bugs me. This is delicious. It really tastes like Neopolitan ice cream. I taste all three flavors equally.

How do I save the wet bag, if I want to re-steep it after I am done drinking this pitcher? It could take a couple of days. Is that even feasible?

I made the concentrate again with the bag, and froze it. Then I put it right into a pitcher of water and let it melt. I wasn’t sure how to save it and get it to dry out all the way.

I cold brewed this for 15 hours or so. I go back and forth on whether I prefer these cold brewed or hot brewed then iced. Tastes like bubblegum and black tea. The black tea base is tart and fruity. The bubblegum flavor is less domineering than some of the others in the SBT line, so the black tea is more pronounced. Very interesting and good.

Is this my last Neapolitan tea bag? I think it may be, and it’s from last year. Still would have traded it in for a Rainbow Sherbet. This one is mostly sweetened black tea. Maybe a little chocolate, maybe a little strawberry, but I wouldn’t have noticed if no one told me this was supposed to be Neapolitan ice cream in an iced tea jug.

But it’s still a delightful refreshment to come home to after spending the sunny afternoon waiting for busses.

OMGsrsly

You’re so lucky you have sun. It’s so muggy here that walking out of work was like walking into the Rain Forest exhibit at the aquarium. :) Tonight is All Iced Tea, All The Time.

Fjellrev

I can only imagine. I’ve only been to Vancouver once, last summer, and was it ever humid. Mixed in with the pollution around the hotel and it started getting to me after a while.

OMGsrsly

This is way worse than usual. Way. Worse. I mean, one of my jobs is in a tropical room, so I’m used to the humidity, and this is just bad. :/

Plunkybug

It’s still pretty muggy here too. Not as bad as Florida muggy. That’s way worse. It’s like it is now, only it’s 40C (or hotter). And muggier.

OMGsrsly

Part of the problem was that I wore pants and a cotton tee today even though I knew I’d be spending the morning in the warm room. Ugh. Shorts/skirts and wicking fabrics are the way to go.

CHAroma

Oh man, I LOVE this one! Whereas Rainbow Sherbet is just okay. I never cease to be amazed how people’s tastes differ. I think it’s human nature to think that everyone will think like you do. Wow, that was a lot of “thinks”, LOL!

Fjellrev

Do you also like Cotton Candy? I thought that was just sweetened black tea too, so it would be really interesting if you also like that one.

Ze_Teamaker

Florida isn’t even muggy. It is an outdoor sauna. >__>

CHAroma

I LOVE the Cotton Candy one!! LOL! I have a major sweet tooth, so maybe that’s part of it?

Finally finally finally, I’ve found a glass pitcher with a lid for iced tea. It’s a Labour Day Weekend MIRACLE.

I’ve had this cold-steeping for over three hours and it’s already quite strong. I just poured my second class, and after each one, would just refill the jug again, and it just keeps on going. The liquor is such a rich, dark amber.

As soon as I ripped open the packet to get out the tea bag, I was hit with a cloud of neapolitan ice cream. The taste is very heavy on the black tea though, kind of the same I got with the cotton candy loose leaf. But it’s heavy in a good way. It means business.

Can’t pick out any chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry. Just that same sugary undertone, again, from Cotton Candy, which gives me the impression that the strawberry is the strongest flavour of the three, seeing that pink cotton candy tends to be slightly berryish.

This tea bag is an iced tea making machine. I’m going to keep on going until the colour of the liquor turns substantially paler.

My last SBT tea… This tastes so much like pink bubblegum… well, actually, it tastes like black tea and bubblegum. It’s really yummy. It isn’t my favorite of the SBT line, but, it is certainly tasty and refreshing!

I cold-brewed this tea last night, and I’m on my second glass of the tea already. I hope that Frank comes up with a new line of ice tea blends for this summer!

Yum!

I cold-brewed this overnight, and am finding that this gets better and better as I continue to drink it. The first couple of sips were very strawberry-ish, with hints of a creamy background note. Now, as I’m nearly finished with my second glass, the chocolate and vanilla notes have developed, although the strawberry still seems to reign over the other flavors. It’s a really delicious iced tea though. Do I like this better than the original honeybush version? I don’t know! It’s been a while since I last had that … so its difficult to compare. But, I do really enjoy this. Very refreshing.

Iced tea of the day, and second steep…..

I stored the once used bag in the refrigerator overnight, and brewed this up again today for 6 minutes in about 2 cups of freshly boiled water. Then I added it to my pitcher with water and ice up to about 60 ounces. Yes, it is just as good as day number one! Yummy! Love these!

ashmanra

Excited to hear it! I just ordered two pouches of the Razzleberry and one of Radioactivitea.

Iced tea of the day……

Yum! I mostly smell strawberries and creaminess. Once I get a taste of the brew, it definitely has all three flavors going on, Strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate. I am sure the flavors would come out even more if I sweetened it, but this is good as it is, and that is how I usually drink iced tea. Definitely a winner. Not sure which one I like better….this or Rainbow Sherbet, but I am glad I have some of both. Bubblegum and Cotton Candy are still in the bag to try.

This was my least favourite of the 4 SBTs I tried, but I think it was because Bubblegum & Cotton Candy were SO flavourful by comparison!

That said, in this one, the black base really shone – just didn’t get enough of that icecreamy goodness that I get from the original honeybush blend. Not bad, just not my favourite! That is all.

OH – and this does end on a happy note – with the return of Earl Grey Cheesecake it gave me a chance to order some more SBTs! So… yeah!

Oh ALSO I got a job! It’s a PR/Customer Service desk at a mall. A mall job which gives me a discount on DavidsTea AND Lush! So for now, I’m a happy retail camper <3

Missy

Score for job with discounts!!! Congratulations. :D

Daisy Chubb

Thanks! I figure since it’s kind of a PR job, it can count towards some sort of “You need 3+ years of experience to apply for this job” stuff. Then I can get a legit PR job! Or something. Something good will come of this!

Will Work For Tea

Congrats on the job! Just don’t go spending your paychecks at the mall! J/K – lol!

Daisy Chubb

haha it’ll be hard, but I’ll try! ;)

Fjellrev

Congrats! I worked at Lush for two years and will try to get a job at one of the stores here now. It’s always lovely to have a discount there. :)

Hesper June

Yeah! Glad to hear that you got a job and also that there is “benefits” ;)

I made this yesterday and ended up drinking half the pitcher! Hahaha! So, I think that probably speaks volumes about how good it is. I try to make myself a cup of tea in the mornings before heading off to work. But today was a little too hectic, so I just poured a glass of this into my tea tumbler and headed out the door.

I don’t know how, but I had almost forgotten what it tasted like overnight. So, when I got to work and had a sip of this tea, my jaw hit the floor! This stuff is soo good! Sooo incredibly yummy!!!

It tastes like all three flavors equally: strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate. I don’t get much in the way of ice cream, but honestly that’s one of those things that I don’t think can be replicated in tea form. The black tea base is smooth and assertive. It blends perfectly with the added flavorings. Not a hint of bitterness or astringency in sight.

Truly, this is a fantastic iced tea!! And I’m not a huge iced tea drinker. I almost always prefer to drink teas hot. But this, this was made to be iced and it’s just to die for! I could drink this everyday, and I bet I’d wake up each morning and still be surprised that it tastes this good! ;)

Yaaaaay! Bubblegum tea!

This is great – it’s like a sun tea (or even like a nestea with no sugar) but bubblegum flavour! I looooved the ease of the tea bag too! It was the perfect size, smelled delightful and was so easy to use!

mm the bubblegum flavour is spot on – I only used 2 tsp of sugar for the entire 4 cups of tea, and it was more than sweet enough. Expertly blended!

My prep was to put the teabag in my 4 cup teapot and pour 2 cups of hot water over top. I steeped for 3 mins, then topped with 2 cups cold water and removed the teabag. I put the whole pot in the fridge, and served over glasses filled with ice!

The ice was definitely needed because the tea was quite concentrated with only 4 cups of water. Turned out perfect though – this is totally tea-bar worthy – I would pay 5 bucks for a cup of this and have it be worth it – because it’s so tasty and unique!

Thanks Frank – you rule school.
