Today was one of those “looks like spring but doesn’t feel like it” days - trees abloom, lawn threatening to need mowing, Mr. Bluebird crossing my path as I drove through the neighborhood. But the wind was icy and cut like a chain saw. So I need a warm-up more than anything else. This is adequat-ulent for that purpose. Mild green base with a hint of jasmine to accompany all the hints Spring has been dropping of late.

We had some nice weather but the wind is whooshing tonight and temps are dropping – briefly. We will be back to spring weather in a few days. The pollening has also begun and everything is yellow. The rockers and patio table have to be rinsed daily. I hope you get sunshine and warmth back soon!

This looks like a black tea. If this is a green I might cry, The steeping tea at least has a pleasant aroma. Jasmine, just like on the bushes in Hawai’i. Okay. Now I really might cry. This also reminds me of many of the Chinese restaurants we visited while in China back in 2008. The taste is decent. Hints of jasmine. Bit of some type of hardy wood. T_T yeah… It’s a green tea. Oxidized a bit too long for my preference. Oo… oh man. Whoa. I only left it in a bit longer but it punched me in the face with bitter notes and then tried to apologize with some nice floral jasmine notes. And now it’s leaving me hanging with astringency. Would be better with some honey.

Gong fu this time.

1st Infusion – 30 Seconds:
Strong green tea flavor and astringency, which is pleasant albeit a bit coarse. The jasmine is present from nose to finish, but not all-consuming.

2nd Infusion – 30 Seconds:
I decided to come back to the same brew time as the first infusion after wash was a bit strong. Similar flavor just a little clearer.

3rd Infusion – 40 Seconds:
Really hitting its stride here, light on the front but heavy astringency on the back. There’s a lovely bright sweetness as it passes the tongue but the finish is a bit coarse.

4th Infusion – 50 Seconds:
The sweeter water adds a lot to this one. Thinking I need to move my steep time down while moving through the range of the leaves.

5th Infusion – 60 Seconds:
The flavor has fallen off now, but the irony is: at this point I am tasting a typical bagged jasmine tea brewed at regular strength. Which is to say, you really miss a lot of nuiance with some bagged teas.

Flavors: Astringent, Bittersweet, Jasmine

Pretty good hot, or cold. Can be a bit bitter if overdone, the green tea might be on the coarser side of the flavor profile. If it were straight green tea I would not be as enthusiastic, the jasmine really helps. I had this warm on a cold night out of a thermos and it was really quite pleasant, but I wasn’t paying much attention to the tea.

My wife has had this particular tin for years and it holds up well and brews a lovely cup/pot of tea. Still need to try it in a gaiwan.

Nothing to write home about on the palate, light jasmine, green tea, some astringency. Not as bad as bagged tea but I’m not floored. If it is inexpensive and available at our local Asian market I will probably buy more.
It feels like I can serve this to my tea-blind friends and they would marvel that it’s leaves not in a bag, and I can get away with the “authentic Chinese tea” experience. Though for most friends and family I would probably reach for a higher shelf. :)

I’ll update if the need strikes me. This particular go-round I’m enjoying it after mass brewing and icing. I don’t feel like I’m wasting a gem and the taste is quite refreshing.

My wife made this in her style, brewed concentrated with some orange blossom honey, and then iced before serving. It’s quite refreshing, and even though I don’t usually like sweetened teas the honey complements the jasmine notes instead of taking away from them. I’m excited to try some other jasmine teas in the future to see how they stack up.

Wasn’t the best, but wasn’t the worst. Maybe if I’d let it sit longer it would have been better, but I’m not impressed.

It’s not my favorite, but I do like it. Adding it’s price as a factor, I’d definitely consider drinking more of this when I just feel like having single serve teas.

Sometimes the low price of something is an attraction in itself. So when I saw these boxes of green tea flying off the shelves of Walmart, I had to try. I tossed my buck into the automatic checkout and off I went.

Each of the tea bags is individually wrapped in paper. The box itself had a holographic strip for authenticity.

I tossed in two bags and 400 mL and it made a mild yellow brew with some tea flavour.

I should also note that this is “Fujian Green Tea” and imported to Canada by a company.

Pleasant enough when a green tea mood strikes me. I’m not a big lover of green tea, but this one is nice and doesn’t get bitter if I forget about if for a few minutes.

This tea hit my eye while I was browsing for ramen in a local asia shop.
Considering the low cost of this product I wasn’t even sure if I should bother buying it.
Well I did and I’m not disappointed.

The tea smells really nice, soothing and not too strong.
I might be biased because it reminds me of my youth.
The following lines may be hard to imagine for a lot of you guys but please bear with it.
It smells like a stack of hay.
No, I’m not talking about any old dry grass.
I’m talking about grass, herbs and flowers which grow in the Alps.
They are cut, dried in the sun and stored as fodder for feeding livestock during winter.
They are also used in medicine and beauty products.

The taste heavily depends on how the tea is being prepared (well, of course…)
Steeping it for a long time with boiling water results in a soapy and bitter tasting brew that isn’t consumable.
It’s best to try different temperatures and steeping times to find what you want.
If you are afraid of germs and want to use boiling water it’s best to use a glas cup.
This way you are able to see how the colour changes which can help you to choose the right time to get the leaves out of there.

All in all this isn’t the best tea in the world, it takes time to find the right amount of leaves, steeping time and temperature to brew a tea that suits your taste.
Every person is different.
Still, what you get for this price is mindblowing.

Additional information:
I neither add sugar nor milk.
I use three teaspoons for one liter water at 82°C.
I use the teavleaves twice, the second time with a slightly longer steeping time.

Somehow I managed to not add this to my cupboard until just now instead of when I got all of my teas. Weird.

Anywho, when I opened up the bag and transferred the tea to a tin the look and smell of this tea is exactly like Silk Dragon Jasmine from DAVIDs- smaller leaves, and a light jasmine scent. When brewed up it is almost exactly the same as Sill Dragon Jasmine- stronger green tea base with a light jasmine flavor. The only difference is that this tea is a little less “sensitive” (I brewed this one at 175 degrees F and not 160, and steeped it for 2 and a half minutes as opposed to 1). Overall pretty nice and I like it, but I will say dragon pearls and butterfly jasmine is better.

This tea is great if steeped for 1 min in 175F water. It is very light and without bitterness. The Jasmine taste is refreshing and you can get hints of citrus. The smell is floral without being too perfumey. I might increase my steeping time to 2 min but when I tried 3 min it was very bitter.

Jasmine Tea by Fujian Tea is the same as Jasmine Tea by Sunflower. It is an inexpensive loose leaf green tea scented with jasmine fragrance. Do not follow the packaged insert (pour boiling water for 5 minutes) with this or any green or white tea, as your tea will get bitter (boiling water on greens or white makes the tea release tannins).
Steep it at 175F/79C for 60 to 90 seconds, not longer than 2 minutes. I like 3 grams in 150 to 200ml (about 5 oz to 6.5 oz). You can get a second steep that will taste milder (and better in my opinion). As with any subsequent steep, it will have much less caffeine, but still some antioxidants. I know some people who prefer to discard the first steep, but I drink it.
It’s a good starter tea, for daily consumption, but nothing fancy.
